When in London…

Kat

"I’m so happy to finally be able to blog about Caroline & Ben’s beautiful London wedding. There are so many things I loved about this wedding, from Caroline’s stunning Jenny Packham gown and headpiece, to the gorgeous Market Suite at the Fox & Anchor where Caroline and the girls were getting ready, through to the beautiful ceremony at Islington Town Hall and reception at The Crypt. There was a real London feel about this wedding, and I loved the fact that when we went for a little portrait shoot with Caroline and Ben after the ceremony, we just hailed a black cab. When in London..."

Perfect Picnic Wedding

Kat

March 14, 2010

Sarah & Kevin's darling backyard wedding took place in a friend's back garden in Arlington, Texas. The vintage-inspired theme with robin egg blue touches made for the perfect, personal picnic wedding. The day was styled by Revolution Garden and several of the wedding accessories (including the invitation, all hair accessories, the sign-in painting, and the decorated hat box) were hand-made by them as well. The whimsical bouquets made of all off-white and vanilla flowers and the boutonnieres were created by The T Shop. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Anthropologie and the bride's dress was put together with thrift store shopping including Buffalo Exchange.

White Album Wedding Chapel

Norma & David's wedding was all about the individual retro touches. In love with the art deco vibe of the 1920s and 30s, the pair used this as their inspiration - choosing to be inspired by and go with the flow of the theme rather than being restricted by it. "We wanted a vintage feel, as I am in love with art deco, 20's and 30's music/style/art/film" Norma told me. "As an artist the visual 'flow' was more important to me than being "matchy matchy", or sicking to a theme. We like an eclectic look and things with character...we were hoping to create an elegant, whimsical, romantic, sensual feel."

Doing it Their Own Way

Kat

March 12, 2010

The pair employed no wedding vendors (except photographer Amber Hughes) for their wedding. They did the whole thing themselves and did it in style to boot! No expensive venue (they got married at home and had their wedding day shoot at Seawall) no over-priced outfit (Magalie wore a dress from BCBG, boots from Chooka with a flower in her hair from H&M.) The flowers were purchased in bulk from different florists in town and the couple put them together themselves. The tissue paper pom-poms were from a Martha Stewart tutorial. They pulled all the food and drinks together themselves and Magalie did her own hair and makeup.

A Truly Personal Affair

Emily & Rodolfo's sunny Chilean wedding sung to me with happiness! Now I understand that doesn't really make grammatical sense to anyone other than myself, but the yellow theme and perfectly personal vibe of this day really made me happpieee. The photography was done by the couple's good friend Kyle Hepp and Emily's crazy-stunning dress was made especially for her by a local seamstress. Her hair & make up were done by her Aunt, the flowers were donated by friends and the tent was built by her Uncles - a truly personal and family affair!

A Perfect Snowy, Vintage Wedding

Kat

Everything about this winter wedding was meant to be. As well as the venue being practically next door to where she lived, Anna also stumbled on her gorgeous dress quite by accident at a vintage clothing store. A few days before the wedding, she spotted a mint condition Morris Minor in town, and left a polite note on the windscreen asking if the owner would be kind enough to drive her down the road to the Victoria Hall on the wedding day itself. The owner called back and agreed!

The majority of submissions that land in Rock n Roll Bride's inbox are from photographers. which is great because I get to sample all the best, innovative and inspiring new photography and Rock n Roll weddings out there. However there is something very special about receiving an excitable email from a recently married couple, bursting to tell me all about their wedding. I got an email just like this only yesterday and Sally & Sam's charming vintage/Chinese fusion wedding was only made better by the fabulous running commentary from the bride.

Edward Scissorhands ‘Winter in Summer’ Wedding

Kat

March 3, 2010

"One night I was watching my favorite romance movie, Edward Scissorhands" Karri began "and something magical occurred to me. How amazing would it be to have a winter in summer wedding! I was suddenly seeing snow, ice sculptures and ice blue colors. The love story of E.S. was dark and whimsical which is how I always saw my special day. My best friend and maid of honor eventually introduced me to the pattern, "damask" which further inspired me to incorporate the design into the "winter blue" theme I had in mind."

Quirky, British Fare

The couple chose The Hop Farm as their venue because, in their own words, "it had a certain britishness to it and being both born and bred in Kent we grew up with the iconic images of the oast houses and it just felt comforting and homely to have them as a back drop to the wedding." They didn't really have one theme per-say but they just came up with/borrowed ideas from many areas that inspired them. In fact the only stipulation they put throughout the whole of the process of planning their wedding was that they wanted to get as many people as they liked together to have a really good party, and the actual ceremony and marriage was just a small part of that.

Buddy Holly & Mother Nature

Kat

March 1, 2010

Amy & Nick's wonderful South Austin wedding had a distinct and very individual theme - perfect for them! Big fans of Buddy Holly and late 50's/early 60's music, it was important to them to really have that as a big part of their wedding. Amy walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Every Day played live by a friend on the guitar. Nick waited to marry his sweetheart decked out in a grey suit, Buddy Holly glasses and his favorite pair of Converse. Amy wore a dress by Dolly Couture which was perfectly accented by a Magnolia flower created by Amy Barber of Sweettooth Bags.

When blog land favourite, Amelia Lyon, posted Sam & Nikki's amazing looking wedding on her blog yesterday I was sure some other, high flying, blogger would have snapped them up for a feature. Never one to give up without a fight, I emailed Amelia on the off-chance they were available...and guess who got lucky?! Sam is actually Amelia's cousin. He married his sweetheart in January and luckily for us Amelia was first on hand to take these amazing shots. Nikki wore her Grandmother's dress (sweet) and stunning cobalt blue shoes. Thanks to Amelia for sharing these with us today Credit: Amelia Lyon

Chic, Intimate, Library Wedding

Kat

February 25, 2010

I am literally dying over Steve and Caitlin's personal, intimate wedding. The wedding took place at The Wilder Mansion in Elmhurst, Illinois, which at one point, used to be the Elmhurst Library. Steve & Caitlin drew from this (and their love of books) for some of the detail themes. They made library catalogue cards as their escort cards and each table was named after a different book. They had old photos of their families going back generations scattered throughout the mansion, and also had a room full of antique games for guests to play. They decided to save money was by creating their own bouquets and they actually used fake flowers! Caitlin's dress was from J.Crew and the bridesmaids each chose their own black dress.

Floral Punk Rocker Bride

Kat

February 24, 2010

Lizz & Will tied the knot at Houston Mill House in Atlanta, GA. The wedding had a great floral, spring-like feel but with touches of punk rock throughout - just the way I like it! Lizz found her dress at Bridals by Elena in Glen Burnie MD. isn't it beautiful? Lizz told me "I had done some dress shopping for about a month, and nothing seemed to STAND OUT. Until I walked into Elena's. I had about 4 dresses I wanted to try on and was on my way to the fitting room when I saw my dress on a Mannequin. I instantly knew that was my dress. It was the first one I tried on and it was the last. Later that day I found the perfect shoes I was looking for, and when Elena saw them she thought it would be a spunky idea to die them the color of the purple sash on my dress. I was a great experience, and Elena and her daughter are amazing seamstresses" Thanks to Lemar, Lizz & Will for sharing this awesome wedding with us today
