What a Beautiful Day!

Kat

May 11, 2010

After featuring Alissa & Rich's crazy-stylish engagement last May, I couldn't wait to see their wedding and they certainly haven't disappointed! Alissa told me all about their 'vintage, rustic, chic' wedding. "After an extensive search for a photographer, we found Laura Grier at Beautiful Day Photography. We fell in love with her laid back photo-journalistic style and her infectious positive energy. Through Laura, we ended up finding our wedding location, Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse in Los Olivos, California, based on the photos from one of the gorgeous weddings she shot there."

Mexican Themed Wedding with a Tattoo Twist

Kat

May 10, 2010

Courtney & Dan got married at MGM signature patio, Las Vegas, and had their Rock n Rollin' Reception at Diego's restaurant in MGM. The couple both love Cinco De Mayo, collect hot sauce, their first date was at a Mexican restaurant and they love Mariachi bands, so the wedding has a slight Mexican theme. Courtney originally had a traditional wedding dress, but a few days before she got on the plane to Vegas she went to the fitting to find her dress was to small. It was fate! Courtney knew there wasn't going to be enough time to fix it, so she went to a prom shop in Philadelphia and found this gorgeous dress.

All the Colours of the Rainbow

Kat

May 8, 2010

Jackie & John's massively colour-filled wedding makes my heart sing with joy. Any couple who can't settle on one colour scheme and go for all the colours is awesome in my book. Those bridesmaids - oh yes! The wedding took place at 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky - an art gallery space that is quite minimalist so not to take away from the art on the walls. The couple let the venue do what it does best and didn't worry about adding their own decorations. "Decor was not a big priority to us because I respected the venue's integrity on it's own" Jackie told me. "I'm an art history major so it was great to find a venue that reflected that. Plus, 99% of our guests were from out of town, so it was nice to have everything - the ceremony, reception and after party - all under one roof. Everyone partied until they had to cut the band off and then simply staggered upstairs to bed. More than a few out of town guests thanked us for that. I can not speak highly enough of the staff there. We had taken our party upstairs to a couple of hotel rooms and the hotel was getting a couple noise complaints, but instead of telling us to keep it quiet and kill the party, they opened up a meeting room space down in the basement and let us bring our own food, drinks and iPod speakers in and stay as late as we want. My husband and I finally crawled away to our room at 3:30 am or so but I'm told people were in the meeting room until well past sunrise."

Urban Grunge & Diy to Die for

Shaun & Jacinta must be every wedding photographer's dream clients! With Jacinta being a fashion designer and Shaun an illustrator, their wedding was always going to be too damn cool for words. Jacinta designed and made her own dress over 3-4 weeks which incorporated a print designed by Shaun (!) The pair worked together to decide on few ideas of what to have in the design to make it perfect for them and to represent both their families. They wanted it to include a Maltese cross to represent Jacinta’s heritage and one of Shaun’s mother’s favourite flowers, Chrysanthemums.

Antique Market Dreams

May 7, 2010

I have much love for Chicago photographer Jeremy Lawson and it's always a pleasure to feature his Rock n Roll weddings - especially when they are as awesome as the one of Mary & Alton. The wedding took place at the uber cool Salvage One, which, with it's awesome signage and rustic, almost derelict, antique market interior provided the perfect backdrop to the event. Mary's vintage look was provided by local Chicago design Jess Audey who custom made her beautiful dress and Antje Kastner at Tigerlilie who did her retro/rockabilly style hair and make up.

Something Blue

Kat

May 6, 2010

Jessica & Karl got married in the city of Stockholm, Sweden, in the Södermalm region to be precise, which is apparently one of the coolest urban areas of the country. The wedding had a distinctly blue theme which perfectly reflected the countries nature. "Blue is as Swedish as it gets with it being the dominant colour in the flag" photographers Cole & Jakob told me "and a lot of that has to do with the importance of the ocean to the countries culture. Even the archipelago that Stockholm is built amongst is surrounded by the blue of the sea, and that colour was an underlying theme through the planing of this wedding." Jessica wore a dress by Design by Marja Collection with a beautiful handmade hairpiece by Percy Handmade and a flawless hair net made by Tied and Feathered. Karl wore a Western North Carolina tie from Me & Matilda which again matched their 'something blue' theme.

Ooh La La Oscar De La Renta!

Kat

May 4, 2010

Before I share this wedding I want to let out a little 'squeeeeal' of excitement over bride Sian's Oscar De La Renta number. I actually remember coming across this dress last year sometime on a blog somewhere and being pretty much floored by it's beauty. So when photographer David shared his images from Sian & Dave's London Zoo wedding from Saturday I knew I knew that dress...and I fell in love all over again. Not only that but teamed with the Vivienne Westwood shoes (which I love and have a pair of myself) and it's a match made in Rock n Roll heaven!

Rock n Roll Sophistication

Kat

May 4, 2010

Rita & Hai's wedding portraits had me at hello. From her incredible summer dress from Barney's CO OP that was altered to be a wedding dress, to her flower sash which was custom made by Pish Posh on Etsy and her Diba shoes from Nordstrom. Her bridesmaids wore beautiful silk chiffon Taryn dresses from J Crew and Hai donned a Michael Kors suit with a Burberry tie, J Crew socks and Converse All Stars. The whole thing just screams Rock n Roll sophistication!

Amazing Andaz

Kat

May 3, 2010

Prepare yourself for a super duper bumper post people. Sometimes I'm afraid I can't help but go mad on the number of images I share on a wedding as beautiful (and as beautifully captured) as Sam & Adam's. The couple got married at The uber stylish Andaz Hotel in London. With Sam & Adam both being fashion designers (as well as a lot of their guests too!) the wedding was sure to be a ridiculously stylish affair. Sam looks gorgeous in her Marchesa gown and I am pretty much crazy about those Nicholas Kirkwood heels! Adam wore a suit from Dunhill.

Cheesily Fabulous ~ Vegas Baby!

Kat

May 1, 2010

Vegas baby! Meredith send me such a great description of Reed & Alicia's cheesily fabulous Vegas-themed wedding that I just have to hand this one over to her... "Reed & Alicia planned their fun, quirky wedding in just six weeks! When they began looking for ceremony locations & venues, the two came across this small chapel located near the beach where they usually walk with their golden retriever. After looking inside and seeing the bright red carpet & a cheesy stained glass window (with a rainbow & two doves) at the altar, Reed & Alicia came up with the idea of having a kitschy Las Vegas-themed wedding in this Vegas-esque chapel. They found 60 pairs of "Elvis" sunglasses on Ebay and envisioned having their guests put on these sunglasses right after they were pronounced husband & wife, during their kiss.

A Dress of Blue & Jimmy Choo

Kat

April 29, 2010

I've got a bonus post for you today, simply because I couldn't help myself and wanted to blog this right away! Amanda and Walé got married in Cornwall, Polhawn Fort to be specific which overlooks a dramatic bay. Amanda wore a completely gorgeous bright blue Roland Mouret dress with pewter Jimmy Choo wedges (swoon.) The bouquet was a structural arrangement of Calla lilies and she clipped some pretty little butterflies in her hair. Her ring was the ‘crystal haze’ ring by Stephen Webster and Wale’s ring was from Sarah Sheridan.

For the Love of Bettie Paige

Kat

April 28, 2010

Toni & Richard had a gothic/burlesque inspired wedding at Prested Hall in Colchester in March of this year. "Our inspiration mainly comes from my admiration of burlesque and my unnerving love of Bettie Page (who I have recently had tattooed on me)" Toni told me. "Not being much of a girly girl and never one who 'dreamt of their big day', I didn't actually know where to start after the proposal. I like wearing jeans, having a Mohawk and being covered in tattoos and wearing too much make up!"

Procedure: Molecular Fusion

Kat

April 27, 2010

I found a linky to the wedding of UBER UBER UBER cool recent bride and artist Zoetica Ebb & her writer husband Ales Kot on Gala Darling last week and literally couldn't wait to share it with you - especially after I visited Zoetica's inspiring website and laid eyes on her sparkly, blue, faux-halk! Serious hair envy batman! The pair actually got officially married in a microscopic civil ceremony June as Ales is a Czech citizen (you can see Zoetica's post on the event here including their adorable 'leaving the ceremony' video) so the couple decided that a second 'just for show' ceremony didn't make sense so their wedding was actually just a big old Rock n Roll celebration!

Mick Jagger, Glastonbury & English Fish ‘n Chips

Kat

April 27, 2010

This could quite possibly be the most emotionally charged ceremony I've ever seen! So. Much. Love. The intimate wedding (only 15 guests) took place at The Kings Road Registry Office and was followed by some good old fashioned English fish n’ chips. Quite apart from all this awesome, the couple, Fox & Cassie, are actually very cool themselves. Fox has made a record, written a book and played at Glastonbury and he was desperate to get married at the same venue as his hero Mick Jagger.

A Bride in Boots

Kat

April 26, 2010

Oh Dan & Dayna you've made my day! What an awesome wedding and a fantastic story. I've been dying to share these all weekend! I knew this would be an awesome wedding in fact as soon a photographer Matthew told me that the bride was part of the Vaudeville Circus (you can see her in action here - far right in the white dress) "I wanted to have a rock-n-roll wedding that felt like Dan and I had our hands all over" explained Dayna "I spent a lot of time pouring over wedding blogs and getting inspiration from cool brides. I picked themes that we both loved like reading, hence the book center pieces and framed quotes from our favorite authors, Fall and the month of October (the colors and flowers), simple down home (and cheap!) mason jars as vases. All of our music the entire day was hand picked and never 'traditional': wedding procession we had our friend play the ukulele, bridal march was Cat Powers "Sea of Love" (followed by The Honeydrippers "Sea of Love" for our first dance), our walk as husband and wife was Joey Ramone's "Wonderful World". Our flower girls wore homemade tutu's, leotards and ballet slippers. We had a drawing after dinner with silly gifts of our life so far (a DVD of the first movie we saw, a pint glass from the restaurant where we met, a dvd of "It's a Wonderful Life" cuz we're nerds and watch it every year...). It was a rockin' day for sure!"

Holga, Music & Diy A-Plenty

Kat

April 22, 2010

Oh how I love a holga-photographed wedding! I can't help but applaud a couple who take the risk with such a camera...I tried my hand at holga photography a while back and promptly gave up! Katie & Kevin had a perfectly personal diy wedding. Katie loves crafting and so made everything, and I mean everything, herself. One of my favourite bits had to be the hand-dyed coffee filters used as hanging paper 'flowers'. She also made the felt bouquet and the groomsmen's custom cuff links herself too!

High Rocks

Kat

April 22, 2010

When I featured Nadia & Damien's London engagement session back in January I just knew their wedding would be a beaut' and these images sent over by the lovely Eliza Claire certainly haven't disappointed. The pair got married at The High Rocks Hotel in Tunbridge Wells which proved a pictureqesue venue with dramatic 'high rocks' outside. These acted as the perfect backdrop for some stunning portraits. Nadia looked every bit the glamorous bride in her XX dress which not only has a belt and lace over-lay but had pockets. Yes! stylish and quirky!
