A Quintessentially British Wedding on the Queen’s Birthday: Jess & Dan

Kat

June 14, 2012

Jess & Dan's wedding was quintessentially British with the theme carrying through from the attire to the cake to the DIY reception decor. Why the theme you ask? Well the wedding was held on the weekend of the Queen's birthday! The couple were married at Edes House, Sussex and had two reception venues, both of which were within the grounds of Chichester Cathedral. Their afternoon wedding breakfast was held at Vicars Hall and the evening party was at George Bell House.

Button Moon, Moomins, Rainbow Petticoats and a Wedding in a Cave: Caroline & Johnny

Kat

June 12, 2012

When wedding photographer Sassy of Assassynation told me she'd booked a wedding through a feature on my site last year I was super thrilled. However my excitement was pretty much quadrupled when she them told me the bride was wearing a short dress... with a rainbow petticoat... with glittery turquoise leopard print wedges and ankle socks... oh yes and that they were getting married in a cave. I think died and went to wedding heaven right about then. Caroline & Johnny were married on a Monday, on the 14th May this year. The ceremony was small - just the two of them, the celebrant and Sassy and her husband Ian, who not only photographed the event but acted as witnesses. The ceremony was at Carnglaze Caverns in Cornwall. "One fabulously weather proof venue!" the bride laughed. "Subterranean lake, 500 candles and really dangerous steps for the clumsiest bride. What could possibly go wrong?"

Rock and Roll Americana & Kitsch: Jennifer & Ryan

Kat

June 12, 2012

On a warm day in March, Jennifer & Ryan married in an Americana inspired wedding. "We have always had a bit of an obsession with America," the bride told me. "It all started after we first visited New York together five years ago and fell hard-and-fast in love with the people, the shopping, the bars, and the food (hello blueberry pancake stacks!) We had originally planned to get married in New York, but when we found out that not all of our guests would be able to make it across the pond we decided to bring a slice of New York to the wedding!"

A Queensland Library Wedding: Shaun & Kate

Kat

June 8, 2012

The State Library of Queensland proved to be the perfect wedding venue for bookworms Shaun & Kate. "We chose the State Library as we both really loved the space and as Shaun and I met over text books it seemed appropriate", Kate told me. "We incorporated book, paper and typographical elements where we could but tried to not go overboard with the theme. I like a bit a kitsch but there was a strict anti baby's breath policy!"

A 3-day Wedding at a Rockstar’s Retreat: Holly & Karen

Kat

June 6, 2012

Ridge Farm, a working farm and ex-recording studio in Surrey, proved to be the perfect location for Holly & Karen's May wedding. "What made our wedding Rock n Roll? Definitely the venue!" Holly told me. "Aside from being a beautiful farm that we fell in love with instantly, Ridge Farm is also a recording studio where so many of our musical heroes have recorded albums and stayed - so our wedding guests were partying in the very same place that Queen, Whitesnake, Muse, Roxy, Rush and many more have partied! We hired the farm for the entire long weekend - Karen is Irish and it's Irish tradition to hold 3 day long weddings so we had a big meal on the Friday for family and friends then the wedding on the Saturday, followed by a pool party with live music and a hog roast for everyone on the Sunday. The farm sleeps 24 plus there is a camping field so all our hungover guests could just crawl out of bed on Sunday morning and stumble over to rejoin the party. By Sunday evening everyone was in the jacuzzi swigging prosecco from the bottle, even Karen's mum!"

A Waterside Wedding in Rio de Janeiro: Adriana & Daniel

Kat

June 5, 2012

For their November wedding, Adriana & Daniel were keen to inject as much of both their cultures (Brazilian & British) into the day as possible. The event was held at Iate Clube de Búzios, a yacht club in Rio de Janeiro. The bride designed her own dress and used handmade lace from Renda Renascença with the help of dressmaker Inês Uemura. "Sometimes you shoot a wedding that is so amazing, that it is only when you look back on your images and film that you can actually even remember what happened," wedding photographer Maria of Studio 1208 told me. "The whole thing is so effortless, yet it moves like a beautiful old steam locomotive, thundering past you and carrying you away into some distant land."

The Minecraft Wedding: Matt & Asia

Kat

May 30, 2012

Confession: I can't take any of the credit for finding this wedding...this baby was aaaaall Gareth's doing! I'm quite the Minecraft widow actually, and when I drag myself from my computer to my bed at night I can often hear him watching the latest Yogscast video (at full volume of course!) Needless to say he's a bit of a fan... So when the creator of Minecraft, Markus Persson (known online as 'Notch'), tweeted about a wedding themed around the game, Gareth was straight away begging me to try and feature it. In fact I've never seen him run into my office so fast "Ooohmiiigaaaawd there's a Minecraft wedding! You HAVE to feature it! Pleeeease! Pleeeeeeeeease! How do you not know about this already!?? This is the coolest wedding ever ever ever!"

A Dramatic Gothic Wedding: Suzy & Dimtry

Kat

May 29, 2012

Suzy & Dimtry gothic wedding was anything from traditional. They wanted their day to reflect them but also to have fun with it. Suzy told me all about it as well as sharing some of her favourite details, "We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are as people. So you can definitely say it was not very traditional. Our cake was inspired by a Charlie the Unicorn episode, and we added their own twist by having our cake bleed as we cut into it. My favorite animal of all time is the pot bellied pig, and I wanted nothing more than to have one bring out our wedding bands. Keeping as far away from tradition, we also hired a beautiful contortionist to entertain down the isle instead of a trail of bridesmaids and groomsmen."

A 1920s Speakeasy Carnival Themed Wedding: Emily & Jesse

Kat

May 24, 2012

Vintage themes aren't always my bag, but throw a 1920s carnival idea at me and I go weak at the knees! A strong theme like this, done really really well, gets me very excited indeed. Emily & Jesse were married at The Voorhies Mansion at Edenvale Winery. It provided the perfect canvas for their creative ideas! "I would encourage anyone planning a wedding to use wedding tradition as a springboard and focus on the experience you want your guests taking away from your event," newlywed Emily told me.

A Quirky Brazilian Wedding Planned in Just Two Months: Juliana & Tomas

Kat

May 24, 2012

Organised in just two months, Juliana & Tomas' wedding was held in Brazil on the very date that they first met. The bride explains, "Tomas & I met two years ago through a mutual friend. At that time, Tomas lived in New York and I lived in Sao Paulo. In December 2009, Tomas went to Brazil to work and our friend invited him to spend New Year's Eve in a house I'd rented at the beach. We spent 6 days together and, two months later, we met again, but this time in New York. We started a long-distance relationship, which lasted just 4 months, because I decided to come to New York. My plan was to spend a season in New York, study and invest in our relationship. Back then, we were very uncertain about our relationship's future, but now we have no doubt we made the best decision."

A Modern New Year’s Eve Wedding: Tyler & Martin

Kat

May 22, 2012

New Year's Eve might not cross everybody's mind as a date to get married, but for Tyler & Martin it couldn't have been more perfect! "Martin and I are a little obsessed with The Flaming Lips," Tyler explained. "He introduced me to the band early in our relationship. He took me to my first show...it was New Years Eve, Halloween and pure happiness all in one night! I’ll never forget watching another couple get engaged that night and telling Martin that would be a pretty awesome way to do it. Apparently he filed that information away. A couple years later during our yearly pilgrimage to Bonnarooo, Martin proposed to me under a shower of confetti and balloons while The Flaming Lips played 'Do You Realize.' It was perfect."
