April 8, 2013

Sana & Derek were married on an island. Artscape Gibraltar Point is located in the former Toronto Island Public and offers 35,000 square feet of affordable retreat space, artist studios and accommodations for artists and creative thinkers. The tranquil and idyllic setting was perfect for their intimate and artistic wedding. The day started with the entire wedding party taking the ferry over to the island together. "We knew immediately that we wanted to hold the wedding on the island - it's the perfect escape from Toronto, and a place where we have spent countless summer days swimming, biking and hanging out on the beach," wrote Sana. "Artscape had the perfect laid-back and nostalgic feeling that we wanted in a venue, and they even let us have a bonfire outside on the beach!"

Homespun Backyard Wedding: Matt & Dannie

Dear To My Art

April 4, 2013

Matt & Dannie were married at the groom's Grandmother's house in in the Sonoma Wine Country, California. After a memorable proposal (that was captured on film!) the couple set to planning a day that was a true reflection of them as a couple. "The most special thing for us was our wedding location," Dannie began. "It was at Matt's grandparents house. His grandfather built the house, and he had so many good memories there as a child. It was an honor for us to be able to be married there. His grandfather passed away in early 2011, so it was a very emotional night for his grandmother and family. The house was beautiful and was the perfect location for us."

Modern Vintage Weddings

April 3, 2013

Fancy having an eclectic outdoor wedding? Well have I got the inspiration for you today! With a hearty dose of elbow grease and a firm plan of action, Lou & Stu coordinated their Sheffield Botanical Gardens wedding mostly themselves. "I'm a vintage events organiser so the vintage vibe was a natural way to go", began the bride. "We’re both big 50s & 60s fans so we tried to combine the two in terms of the fashion but we didn't want a fancy dress wedding. My dress was late 50s/early 60s in style (vintage, which I had altered to fit) and Stu’s suit was a 60s style tonic suit from Mod shop Jump the Gun in Brighton."

Bookworm Wedding: Stacy & Jo

April 2, 2013

Bookworms Stacy & Jo selected Maynard’s Café, upstairs at Berkelouw Books in Newtown, Sydney as their venue. Although they hadn't hosted a wedding there before, the café were wonderful to work with and really helped the girls put their own stamp on their day. Obviously having a book shop as a backdrop made picking a theme pretty easy. With old books on the long table and books as favours for each of their guests, it all worked really well together.

Colourful Columbus Wedding: Adam & Claire

Red Gallery

March 29, 2013

Adam & Claire were married at Via Vecchia Winery, Columbus - well actually they were married in the alley behind Via Vecchia Winery but they had their reception indoors afterwards! With a groom a wedding photographer himself, they put real importance on their images and so set up a pre-wedding 'first look' to capture some intimate moments before the ceremony kicked off. For this Claire wore a BHLDN dress designed by Orla Kiely, She changed back into this outfit for the reception but for the ceremony itself she opted to wear her mother's vintage wedding dress. Adam had no idea she was planning to do this or to even get changed at all, so seeing her walking down the aisle in a different dress than he expected must have been a very special moment indeed.

Historic Cemetery Wedding with the Bride Arriving in a Coffin: Kristen & Jo

March 26, 2013

It feels weird to start a real wedding post with a disclaimer of sorts but this is just one of those weddings that I share with a small sense of trepidation. Without wanting to sound like anybody's mother, let's just remember that this is two people's actual wedding day and their way of expressing their love. I am under no disillusion that parts of the wedding may well divide opinion, but as always, let's keep the comments constructive and remember what Rock n Roll Bride is all about...

Wild Safari Park Wedding with Animal Print Fancy Dress: Damon & Tooty

March 25, 2013

Damon & Tooty we're never going to have a wedding with a boring or standard theme. In fact as soon as they found their venue, Spring Grove House at the West Midlands Safari Park, the seed for a safari themed day was planted! "The theme came after viewing the venue", the bride began. "We saw a few places and found them booooooorrrrringg. We planned to go and see Spring Grove House but really didn't expect much from it as we had never heard of it. But when we got there we fell in love! They've kitted it out all in animal print décor including the carpets, the wallpaper and ornaments. The idea for the theme was obvious to me. I'm always wearing animal print attire and so we decided to insist our guests did the same for the wedding!"

March 22, 2013

If raucous party-hard weddings are your thing, then have I got one for you today! Ania & Andrzej were married on Kazimierz Dolny nad Wisłą, a cruise ship build in 1900, in Poland. "Our wedding theme was 'Fitzcarraldo' which was a film made in 1982 that we both love", wrote the bride. "It portrays a would-be rubber baron Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald and an Irishman known as Fitzcarraldo in Peru, who has to pull a steamship over a steep hill in order to access a rich rubber territory."

March 21, 2013

We may be finally edging our way into Spring but I couldn't help but share this delicious winter wedding with you today. Rather than avoiding the enviable snow situation, Briar & Simon embraced it with a winter wonderland theme and blue colour scheme! The wedding was held at Boynton Bros Farm in Ontario, Canada. The ceremony was held outside in the woods (brrr!) and the reception in on of the farm sheds (double brrr - these guys are HARDY!)

Mod meets Moghul – Indian Culture & 1960s Mods: Aelia & Stuart

James Melia

March 19, 2013

"Asian weddings are notorious for being huge, but we didn't want that", the bride continued. "We wanted everyone there to truly feel part of the wedding. This was going to be a party for our nearest and dearest. We set out to find a unique venue to capture both our sides, tall order! We looked everywhere: gallery spaces, sculpture gardens, castles – the lot. We were losing hope until we came across a beautiful National Trust site in Derby. It was stunning and we fell in love with it straight away. Not only could we pretty much use the whole house for our ceremony, reception, dinner and dancing but it was closed to the public and it had a history steeped in the Rajasthani era as the owner was the Viceroy to India. Perfect! I had the Indian side covered and Stu had the design and architecture by Robert Adams covered. We couldn't believe our luck."

A Big Vintage Tea Party: Alastair & Lee

March 18, 2013

I'm lucky enough to get to blog a lot of gay weddings, and whenever I do I never really like to make a big 'thing' about the fact that is it one. To me, a wedding is a wedding and love is love and whether it's a guy and a girl, two girls or two dudes getting hitched makes not a damn bit of difference. But with Lee & Alistair's wedding, I just can't help but make a point of how happy it makes me to see these two guys getting married. It's so utterly clear from these photos how much in love they are, and I'm so bloody chuffed to be able to share their story with you today.

Intimate Maui Elopement: Monica & Jason

Trish Barker

March 16, 2013

With just $6500 to spend, Monica & Jason knew they wanted a small wedding. So instead of the going down the traditional route, they flew themselves and their daughter to Maui for an intimate beach wedding. "We didn't have an actual budget in mind", Monica began. "My parents gifted us $5000 to put towards our wedding and we spent a bit ourselves too. In total the wedding was around $6500, which doesn't include our rings. What it did include was everything needed for the wedding plus return airfare from Vancouver BC for three of us, lodging in Maui and car rental. Our thoughts behind what we were going to spend was this: we wanted to have what made us happy within reason."

March 15, 2013

Not wanting to do things by halves, Clare & Aslam had three weddings. The firs two were Muslim celebrations, and this one was their western wedding. Having three whole weddings to plan, the couple kept this event low key and budget friendly. They DIYed a lot and spent just £5000 on the day. "We tried to do everything second hand or hand made as I hate waste and am a big environmentalist", Clare explained. The wedding was held at Hyde Barn in the Cotswolds.
