A Touch of Vegas: Chelsea & Mike

May 16, 2013

Chelsea & Mike wanted to marry in Las Vegas but without doing the typical cheesy Vegas wedding thing. So instead of being married by Elvis, they opted for a simple ceremony (not photographed) at Little Church of the West, followed by a photo session around downtown Vegas with photographer Gaby J. "Our wedding them was 'a touch of Vegas', explained the bride. "We didn't want to go all out with an over the top Vegas style wedding equipped with an Elvis pastor. So we opted for something more subtle. I had my blue suede shoes and my bridesmaids wore gold sequin dresses."

DIY Vegan Wedding: Sarah & Steven

Toast of Leeds

May 15, 2013

There was no doubt in my mind that I had to share this wedding with you. My heart skipped a beat as I clapped eyes on the beautiful Sarah and her stunning movie starlet-esque red wedding dress from The Couture Company and I flicked through Toast of Leeds' photographs holding my breath. What an utterly beeeeeeeautiful wedding. "Our venue was Buckland Hall in the Brecon Beacons National Park, a country house in the Welsh mountains, that we could personalise and make our own for a long weekend", Sarah began. "We had free reign of the house and grounds, which we decorated with family photos and personal belongings that we've collected during our time together. Sixty of our guests stayed on the night of our wedding and close family the night before. The ceremony was held in a room with views of rolling park land, the River Usk and snow capped mountains beyond."

Laid Back & Vintage-Inspired Cripps Barn Wedding: Laura & Tom

Kat

Emma Case

May 15, 2013

Sometime late last Summer I strolled into my favourite wedding boutique to visit my friends, Laura & Emma, who own it. Whenever I'm in central London I always pop into Fur Coat No Knickers to see their latest pretty vintage wedding dresses, to drink some Cava and to catch up on all the latest gossip. But this fateful day in August was different. I was greeted at the door with squeals from Laura, "I'm engaged! Tom Proposed last week!" she shrieked. More Cava was popped and we started to discuss all things wedding - but this time not other people's - hers!

Ribbons & Rainbows – A Candy Coloured Wedding: Angelo & Candice

May 13, 2013

For their March wedding, South Africans Angelo & Candice wanted a colourful day that oozed fun...so a rainbow theme it was! "Angelo and I are generally out of the box thinkers and the 'same old same old' wedding décor was not what we wanted", began the bride. "We knew we wanted colour and fun and we went from there. There were a few elements I needed to 'sell' to my parents but they went with most of my ideas (thankfully). Angelo and I are both involved in film and TV (Angelo is an actor and I am a Junior Creative Producer) so a strong film element had to be prevalent in our day. We had popcorn holding up our table numbers and a picture of a clapper board on our invites."

Industrial Eclectic Downtown Los Angeles: Phil & Joelle

Kat

Corey Nickols

May 10, 2013

Phil & Joelle were married at Studio Six01, an event spaces with a industrial vibe in downtown Los Angeles. They planned their wedding in just three months with the help of event planners Two B Events. "Because we had dated for so long, once we got engaged we knew we wanted to do a very short engagement", explained Joelle. "We initially planned on six months, but due to schedule conflicts that ended up being shortened to three months and a day. It was then that we realized we needed help, and Seth and Ziza of Two B Events came to our rescue. I wouldn't have done it any other way! Second to saying 'I do', hiring event designers was the best thing we did for our wedding. I loved every detail but my two very favorite things were the vows and the hanging edison bulbs (especially as seen in the chandelier built by Two B Events)."

Two-Day Welsh Waterfall Wedding & Seaside Blessing

Kat

Lucy Little

May 10, 2013

Dan & Charlotte had a two-day wedding celebration in Wales. They started off planning just the Saturday wedding by the beach with a pagan blessing, as this was what Charlotte really wanted. However they soon realised that legally, and for family reasons, they would need to have another ceremony with a registrar present, in a venue sanctioned for wedding ceremonies. "I did view having to have both ceremonies as a bit of a compromise", Charlotte explained, "But rather than just doing the legal bit in a quick service on our own in a registry office or something, we set about finding somewhere just as beautiful for that part and made it into it's own distinctive day. We also really wanted our wedding to last a bit longer than the usual one day which is why we split it into two. I would advise anyone planning their wedding to think about spinning things out a bit! It's all over so quickly on the day and we really treasured the extra time we gave themselves over the weekend to spend quality time with everyone that came to celebrate with us."

Big Glass Eye

May 9, 2013

With steampunk and a contemporary twist on Victorian fashion as their influences, Amy & Adam planned their Glenarm Castle wedding to totally reflect them. They homemade as much as possible and hired tipis that were put up in the walled gardens of their venue for the reception. They had a humanist ceremony which included personal readings by friends, one of which was inspired by quotes from Einstein, Darwin and other scientists and philosophers. Amy designed her own wedding dress and had it made by dressmaker Lynne Gregg. Her shoes were Irregular Choice and her accessories were all DIY.

Jake & Jane

May 6, 2013

Darren & Taryn were married on 03/03/13 and 3 minutes past 3... and although they had a limited budget, they created a wedding that was both sweet and beautiful but edgy and fun! "We chose all the 3's because we loved the symbolism of the energy surrounding the number", explained the bride. "In numerology the energy of the number 3 is optimistic and fun-loving, and strives to uplift and colour its surroundings. They tend to be the 'joker', have a wonderful sense of humour and are very charismatic."

If there's one thing I'm never seen without, its something bright and colourful on top of my head. And as the weather gets warmer, I'm rocking my flower crown collection as often as possible - the bigger and brighter the better I say! So it goes without saying really that I was pretty darn excited when I saw Kayleigh's bridal ensemble. I know that if I was getting married now, I'd so be wearing something like this. Also check out her amazing nail art. Daaaamn this girl's got style!

Lush Green Garden Wedding: Ashlea & Joel

Kat

Jerome Cole

May 3, 2013

Ashlea & Joel's wedding was a mash up of everything they love and they actually found it quite difficult to narrow their wedding down to one particular 'theme'. "We found it really difficult to come up with a theme or concept to tie everything together, because we really weren't fussy and just loved everything we saw!" explained Ashlea. "Eventually we decided to give it a garden and green theme, and felt our reception flowers made the room feel beautiful and lush just like we wanted. Siglo, the terrace bar at The European, where we had our ceremony, was a great place as we were overlooking some gardens and we had garden boxes lining a grass aisle."

Steampunk Wedding in the Colorado Mountains: Meghann & Nathan

May 2, 2013

Spring has very much sprung over here in the UK. And as the daffodils start to line streets and parkways, I usually forgo featuring any obviously winter weddings. After all, who want to be reminded of the cold and bleak mid-winter when it's so glorious outside?! Well Meghann & Nathan's wedding was different. They were married in the Colorado Mountains, where snow is a pretty regular feature. They also had a steampunk theme and only spent $2000 on the day, making it a wedding that I just knew you guys would flip out about. So, yet again, my self-imposed rules are being broken today. Oh well!

Intimate Georgia Elopement: Zack & Laura

Stephanie Cobb

April 30, 2013

This laid back couple met online and spent their first dates huddled on Laura's sofa, watching movies and eating food that she'd cooked. So needless to say when it came to their wedding they wanted to keep it as low key as possible too. "We have always been such an easy couple, lots of love and not much hassle of going overboard with things", Laura explained. "His proposal a year after we met was perfect. We were in the mall and he pulled me into a photo booth and he proposed while the photos were being taken inside. It was perfect!"

Kat

Rik Pennington

April 29, 2013

Simon & Amonné were married in Auckland, New Zealand in December. They chose Bethells Beach Cottages as their venue, with it's stunning views and perfectly unassuming laid back vibe. "After looking at several venues on Waiheke Island, we found a beautiful venue. But the day before we went to formalise the booking it was snapped up", explained the bride. "Heartbroken, we came home, I went to sulk and Simon jumped online and found this little slice of heaven. Not only was it breathtaking, but it also looked out over the beach where we had our first kiss. The venue became the canvas on which an unforgettable day was painted. The wildness of the Auckland West coast and the black sand beaches made for a memorable sunset and was our view from where we said 'I do'. The venue had three cottages and we stayed on before and after along with close family."

April 26, 2013

Have I got something to end this week with a bang or what? Have you ever seen a wedding quite like this?! Themed weddings can get a bit of a bad rep, but when done well, and as an authentic representation of the couple, I don't think there's anything quite as fun. Who's with me? Christine & Charles met at a Star Trek convention at Altamonte Hilton, which they then chose as their wedding venue too. "Our wedding was a traditional Klingon wedding", began the bride. "All of our guests used the opportunity to dress any way they wanted. Others may have thought this to be like a Halloween party but the celebration was a party of real friends to be as they wished. I made nearly everything myself including both of our outfits."

Sri Lankan Jungle Wedding: Sarah & Craig

Kat

Chris Roe

April 25, 2013

Sarah & Craig decided the cold, sleet and snow of the UK just wanted going to cut it for their February wedding so they upped sticks and flew out to the Sri Lankan jungle instead! "Within those first few exciting days of engagement we came to the conclusion we would get married in Sri Lanka because we quite fancied going there, we could legally get married there and our parents/family/friends could backpack/5*resort/travel/package holiday there to their wishes", explained the bride. "We then picked the area we wanted to go to which was Unawatuna. It has a bit of a laid back, backpacker, beach-ey vibe and Galle, a historic fort with boutique hotels. I spent hours researching accommodation in the area until I found Illuketia, a colonial tea plantation house set in a tropical garden. So we arranged to have the whole wedding there by email which could've been a bit risky! I did have a Bridezilla moment imagining we had booked an imaginary mozzie infested straw hut, but when we arrived to our wedding paradise it was all worth it."

April 24, 2013

There’s been a lot of speculation around vintage weddings of late. In fact sometimes it feels like a debate that will never end. Are they over-done? Have they gone mainstream? Are we all bored of seeing the same ideas published here, there and everywhere? I'm not going to lie, vintage weddings usually aren't my bag. I'm much more of a colourful, over-the-top and quirky wedding kinda gal. So why do I publish them at all?

Victorian Goth Wedding on a Deserted Beach: Katie & Eric

Amanda Summerlin

April 24, 2013

Katie & Eric didn't have the wedding they'd originally planned, but when circumstances changed, so did their wedding. However being able to have the people there that meant a the most to them was more important than waiting for a big wedding. "When we got engaged last summer, we started to plan a big wedding for October 2013 that we could invite all of our friends and family to", began Katie. "A few months after we became engaged we found out that my Dad had liver cancer, and everything changed. The most important thing was to have our family members at the wedding, and have them all attend in comfort. With that in mind, we changed almost every aspect of the wedding and planned it in four months."
