Help! My Fiancé & I Have Very Different Tastes – How Can We Style Our Wedding to Reflect Us Both?

Kat

May 7, 2012

Last week I received the following email from bride-to-be Tiffany... Dear Rock n Roll Queen, My name is Tiffany and I've been a quiet reader for a while. Reading your blog has always gotten me excited for my own wedding and I'm happy to say, that after 8 years, me and my fiance are going to get married. It'll definitely be diverse since his parents are Scottish, mine are American and he is Canadian. But, I digress.

How to…Dress as a Wedding Photographer

Kat

July 9, 2011

After such a great response to last weekend's post about How to Dress as a Wedding Guest, I got thinking about how I could expand this mini-series. I had a few photographers in the comments asking if I had any tips of how they should dress to shoot weddings. Now clearly I'm not a wedding photographer myself so I thought instead of trying to guess my way through answering this question, I'd ask some of my favourite photographers to share an outfit they might typically wear to shoot a wedding.

How to…Dress as a Wedding Guest

Kat

July 2, 2011

I think they key thing is to dress appropriately to the theme of the day and usually this can be determined by how and where the ceremony is taking place -ie a church wedding might mean the wedding could be a more of a traditional affair so maybe you should tone down your inner goth. I think if you know the couple well it's easy enough to ask what the dress code might be, but just in case you're off to the wedding of your second cousin twice removed, I hope some of my recent finds can give you a few new ideas...

Looking naturally beautiful on your wedding day is something that's often referred to by some as a bit of a given. "On your wedding day you'll be so glowingly happy that you will look as stunning and radiant in the photographs as you did when they were taken" they say...and they're right...right!? Well yes and no. I'm sure you're all with me in some degree on this one, that there are certain areas of your body that you're never going to be happy about. No matter how often your fiancé says you're beautiful and no matter how blissfully happy you are on your wedding day, when you look at a photograph of yourself your eyes are always first drawn to your arms/nose/chin/stomach . Let's be honest with ourselves here and say that we're all worried about how we're going to look in our wedding photographs aren't we? Looking at yourself in a photo can be seriously HARD if you have a hold ups about how you look...and actually even if you don't. There isn't a person in the world who hasn't taken a bad photograph, but we're all just praying that the happiest day of our lives will be reflected as such in the photographs that will remain on our parent's mantles forever aren't we?

How to…Make Your Own Fabric Bouquet

Kat

April 2, 2011

The eagle-eyed amongst you may recognise the above image from Nicole & Aaron's 'Just Married' Session that I blogged back in February. As I was blogging it, I fell a little bit in love with Nicole's handmade fabric flower bouquet so I thought I'd try my luck and ask her if she'd be willing to share how to made it with my readers. Luckily for me (and you!) Nicole was more than happy and excited to share her tutorial with us. Enjoy this guys and as always, if you make this yourself I want to see pictures! Nicole has her own blog, Knitcole, so if you are interested in seeing more of her work then be sure to go check it out. The bouquet she made especially for this tutorial is even for sale through her blog (along with others) for the less crafty among you (ahem...like me!)

How to…Make Your Wedding Day All About You {Guest Post by Carina Romano}

February 19, 2011

I've lost count of the number of times I've read an email or comment from a bride-to-be, stressing that her wedding wouldn't be "blog-worthy enough" and that totally makes me sad. I LOVE to feature all kinds of weddings, detail-heavy or not. I actually back this up on my About page: "There is no ideal Rock n Roll Bride. What I love isn’t necessarily what floats your boat. What makes the weddings (and therefore my site) so fab is YOU! I try to share a diverse variety of weddings, photo shoots and general gorgeousness so I know you’ll find something you love here. The only thing I ask is that each feature is a perfect representation of the couple and their individuality. Think tattooed punk brides next to eco hippy chic weddings and DIY extravaganzas placed side by side with elaborate Alice in Wonderland themed weddings and your half way there."

I heart Elsie. I've been following her awesome crafty blog, A Beautiful Mess, for the past year or so am not afraid to admit that I'm a bit of an super fan. Elsie got engaged to Jeremy in August and so secretly I was hoping she'd share all her wedding planning and DIY ideas on her blog. Last week I received an email from Elise and her sister Emma telling me that not only have they started their own wedding blog, Le Wedding Party, but that Elsie would like to share some of her amazing DIY tutorials on Rock n Roll Bride! Eeek...I am so excited that she even knows my little blog exists, let alone that she wants to share her stuff with us!

After featuring Josephine & Radney's incredibly gorgeous and eclectic DIY wedding last week I was inundated with emails from you lot about the bride's gorgeous DIY fabric flower bouquet. So I asked the lovely Josephine very nicely if she'd be so kind as to write a little tutorial for you. She was more than thrilled to oblige! I'd love to see some more Rock n Roll Brides rocking down the aisle with one of these babies! Huge thanks to Josephine for working on this feature with me.

I hope you've been enjoying our much more frequent visits to the 'How to...' series. After reading your survey responses (full report to come soon) it was one of the things that was most requested. This week I asked Carina Romano of the fabulous Love Me Do Photography (based in Philadelphia) to address the subject that a lot of brides feel nervous about - how they're going to look in their wedding pictures. Don't forget, I love hearing from you all so if you have any burning questions about anything wedding, business or blogging related be sure to shoot me an email and either myself or one of my carefully selected army of amazing guest posters will try and help out.

How to…Have a Perfectly Imperfect Life

Kat

August 18, 2010

I live and I breathe Rock n Roll Bride. It is my life. It is my biggest passion. It is my obsession. I know from reading the hundreds of submissions and emails I receive from you all that you live and breathe it too. You ‘get’ it. You believe in it and you love the idea of it. But you know what, I have a confession. I sometimes feel like a fraud. If you’re anything like me, you’ll read a lot of blogs religiously. You’ll pour over the beautiful people and their stunning weddings on Style Me Pretty, their effortlessly cool homes on Design Sponge and their awesomely unique design and style ideas on Etsy. We love to read these sites for ‘inspiration’ but secretly, don’t they make us feel a little bit like a failure? Do you ever read blogs and think “I’m not beautiful enough”? Do you ever wish you had more to spend on your wedding? Do you ever wish you lived in one of those achingly cool, funky and stylish apartments?
