Six months after their legal ceremony at Brighton Register Office, Jen and Steve had what they would consider their 'real' wedding. "We wanted a spring weekend of celebration, filled with love, laughter and true meaning", Steve explained. "Having got the 'legal' bit out of the way we could design the entire day around what we really felt important to us, which was to be surrounded by like-minded souls having a relaxed weekend house party with a festival feel, centred around a Humanist ceremony that we wrote specifically for ourselves and witnessed by friends and family."

It's unusual that I'll split a wedding into two parts, but as Jen and Steve had two very distinctive and very different wedding days I feel it's only fair to give both of them equal air time! Their celebrations kicked off with an intimate legal ceremony at Brighton register office... with an Elvis and Marilyn Monroe impersonators as their only witnesses!

Lorna and Nigel described their May wedding as "like your Nan's 1940s wedding, where family and guests all lent the couple their best china and vases and donated homemade cakes" and I think that couldn't be more perfect! The wedding was held at St Peter & St Paul's Church and Orford House Social Club and was full of fun and quirky 1940s and 50s details.

Daf and Victoria's wedding was a double celebration. After a long time trying, Victoria finally got pregnant through IVF and so she was four month's gone for the big day. They were married on 13th April, the groom's birthday! Victoria explains, "Our wedding had been on hold while we went through a tedious long IVF process but we got to Christmas and decided we were so fed up of waiting and needed something to look forward to so decided to quickly plan it for four months later. We then had success with the IVF so I got to walk up the aisle four months pregnant! It's been an amazing year all round!"

Ben and Emma wanted a wedding that was, above everything else, chilled out and relaxed. The day took place at The Star Inn in North Yorkshire, their guest list was limited and Emma bought and wore the very first dress she tried on. " What made our wedding so unique, was that we were sooo laid back about the whole thing", she explained."There were no 'bridezilla' moment and I only tried one dress on, my dress! Basically our day was about the three of us, we have a daughter, Noa who is 5. We did it our way with no bells or whistles. It was just relaxed, fun and full of love."

Charlotte and Leo, originally from Brighton but currently living in Liverpool, knew they wanted to marry in the city where they met. So they planned their wedding from afar and booked out an entire guest house right on the sea front to accommodate their guests! A Room with a View has nine guest rooms and was the perfect place for everyone to get ready. The floor to ceiling windows looking over the beach and pier made for some great photos from Lisa Devlin too!

Married in the local church, the reception took place in the old vicarage gardens, the bride's parent's home, in two tipis which they rented for the occasion.

Instead of keeping their own names or one of them taking the other's they decided to merge their two names to create a brand new one. So Kirsty Foster and Steve Pate became Mr & Mrs Fate! When it came to capturing their wedding day they wanted photos that were bright, romantic, playful, with a little kooky edge. Louise and Pete's Belfast manor house wedding was full to bursting with cute, quirky and retro DIY details. The bride wore a polka dot Candy Anthony wedding dress and looked every but the mid-century starlet with her beehive hair do and classically gorgeous make up. "We definitely had a retro themed wedding", Louise explained. "I took inspiration from Hairspray (especially when it came to my hair!) and had a pink polka dot 50s style dress. Pete had a teddy boy-esque suit. We played 60s garage songs during the drinks reception and 60s girl groups afterwards. We asked all our male guests to wear bow ties, which they did, including my 5 month old nephew!"

Matt and Brig wanted their Brighton wedding to have a real community feel. It was also super important to them that it was eco-friendly and they used local suppliers as much as possible. "We met 15 years ago but at the time we were both with other partners", Brig explained. "Matt was the carpenter on an eco self build house that I was about to live in. Our kids were the same ages. We lost contact for about 10 years and then bumped into each other at Patchfest and we hung out for a while...4 years later we were married. Matt proposed on the Brighton Wheel on November 5th 2012."

It's not everyday you get to see a wedding on a steam train so I'm super excited to share Sarah and Gareth's fun wedding with you today. "Our wedding was randomly retro, vaguely vintage and a bit of a mish-mash adventure!" began the bride. "I grew up going on steam trains as a treat as my Grandpa was a big fan! So I was straight on the blower to The Great Central Railway as soon as we got engaged. We were lucky enough to be able to hire a fancypants Pullman rake, which is a bit 'Orient Express' - my Grandpa would be proud!"

Neil and Joanne were married in the picturesque Henley-on-Thames in May. They spent just £7,000 on the wedding, managing to keep costs low by avoiding traditional wedding 'stuff' as much as possible! The bride bought her Monsoon Bridal dress for £45 from eBay and did her own hair and make up. The venues were also pretty affordable. The ceremony took place at Henley town hall and the reception at Hambleden Village Hall. The groom's mother made the cake, they designed and printed their own stationery and they drove their own car.

Rachel and Steven wanted a relaxed vibe for their Glaswegian wedding. This red-headed couple held their celebration at Pollokshields Burgh Hall and used dried wheat, carthamus and rhodantha throughout to give the space an organic and natural look. "We didn't have a theme, we just wanted everyone to relax and have a great day, and for the place to be natural, light and beautiful", Rachel began. "The hall is gorgeous on its own anyway so I chose items, colours, flowers accordingly and everything came together amazingly. My bridesmaids and I carried wheat bouquets and we used a lot of charity shop finds. My girls also chose their own dresses. I just wanted them to wear a dress that made them feel amazing."

I find it so interesting to see how different the same venue can look depending on the wedding. I've featured a wedding at the amazing Victoria Baths in Manchester before, but apart from the obvious similarities (like the big empty swimming pool!) it could be a totally different venue. Lynsey and Greg added lots of greenery and overgrown foliage to the mix, creating a completely different vibe from the cute, quirky and colourful wedding I've shared from here before.

Kiran and Josh had a two-day wedding on the 3rd and 4th of May. Their main aim was to throw a celebration that felt very 'them' and for everyone to have a great time. Big weddings can often cost a lot, but even with their two day event, this savvy couple only spent £8500! They called in favours, DIYed a LOT and made some clever and unusual choices in order to save money. Everything from the flowers, the cake, the DJ and the stationery were either DIYed by the couple or donated by friends.

James and Sally spent just £6000 on their multi-coloured farm wedding in May. It was a wedding full of love, laugher and a damn good time. Their official ceremony took place at Southampton Registry Office but they had a humanist blessing at Green Pastures Farm in Hampshire where they also hosted their reception later that day.
