Retro, Mexican and The Beatles Inspired Wedding

Hearts on Fire

January 16, 2015

Loving all things retro, Lucy and Michael always knew that would be the theme of her wedding. When it came to actually planning their big day though, they wanted it to be unique so they threw in some colourful Mexican influences for good measure! They had a mariachi band, their decoration was colourful and they even served a Mexican inspired buffet feast! The groom's love of The Beatles couldn't be ignored, so the bride walked down the aisle to one of their sings and their tables were named after Beatles albums.

Super Budget, Totally Kick Ass Alice in Wonderland Wedding

Assassynation

January 12, 2015

There must be something in the water because I've now featured three brides with blue hair in the past week. Well, it is the best hair colour after all! The reason I fell in love with this wedding has nothing to do with Kaylee's tresses though, and everything to do with the fact that they had the most kick ass day, on a minuscule budget. I love sharing weddings like this because they prove that it is completely possible to have an awesome wedding without spending a fortune. You just have to prioritise what you really want (in Kaylee and Jake's case their only big expense was the photography) and be smart about where you get everything else. The bride found her wedding dress in a vintage store for £20 for example!!

Retro Village Fête Wedding in Wales

I often get asked what the most alternative wedding I've ever featured is. As while there are some that always stick out in my mind (killer Vegas elopement, bride in a coffin, surprise ceremony!) that's not really what Rock n Roll Bride is about. Yes, I love the crazy, unique stuff, but I equally adore the cute little weddings where it's clear the couple have put their heart and soul into it, and planned a wedding that truly reflects them. That's exactly what Kieran and Sarah did and the result was gorgeous.

Colourful Vintage Wedding in the Scottish Highlands

The Kitcheners

January 10, 2015

Anna and Jack wanted a fun wedding with a party atmosphere. So they hired their venue, Inshriach House, for the entire week, and stayed there in the run up with some of their guests. "We wanted the wedding to be a big fun party with as many of our nearest and dearest as possible", Anna said. "We wanted our personalities and sense of humour to shine through. We wanted to get to married in the highlands, near my hometown of Kingussie and we felt the best way to do this was to organise most things ourselves and to have equal input and responsibility."

An English Enchanted Forest Wedding

John and Lucy were married at Larmer Tree Gardens in Wiltshire in September. They chose it because it had the pretty outside space that they wanted, and they were able to say their vows outside (which isn't always possible in the UK!) in their covered pavilion. "We are both artists, I paint and John is a photographer, and we are both deeply inspired by nature", said Lucy. "I am also borderline obsessed with the vision of an enchanted forest so we wanted our wedding to feel like a blurry childhood memory of a place that was so beautiful and fantastical that you're not sure whether it was real or not. We fell in love with Larmer Tree Gardens the minute we clapped eyes on it. There were peacocks and parrots roaming around so we used a loose theme based on the colours of the peacocks plumage by having the boys in teal and the girls in royal blue."

Lee and Bee

December 23, 2014

Over the next week I'll be recapping some of my favourite posts from the past twelve months, so this is the last real wedding feature of the year! Er where has the time gone please?! But believe me when I say we are going out with a bang. Claire and Stephen's wedding is not only beautifully modern and glamorous, but the way it was photographed by CG Weddings has blown my mind. I love all this creativity and this wedding might just be the epitome of Rock n Roll Bride!

Colourful Summer Fete Wedding: Sam & Sarah

Esme Mai

December 20, 2014

Sam and Sarah were married at Hornington Manor Farm, York in August. They hired their venue for five whole days so they could have a week-long celebration with their loved ones. "From the moment Sam asked me to marry her we were adamant that we wanted a really personalised wedding which was about us as a couple", began Sarah. "We wanted to do all the food, drink and decoration ourselves and to involve our closest family and friends in all of the preparations. We wanted our guests to feel like they were coming to our house for our wedding which we were able to do as we rented the house for five days. A summer fete theme emerged as we planned lots of activities for people to do during the day."

Japanese, Samurai Sword & Video Game Wedding: Luke & Emeline

Stunning

December 16, 2014

Luke and Emeline were married at Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe, Devon. Their unconventional wedding was quintessentially 'them', from the bride's pink hair, the Japanese and video game theme and the groomsmen carrying weaponry! "I'd describe our theme as a Japanese culture based experience", explained the groom. "Video games, action adventure, samurai's and of course a manga styled bride with pink hair."

Rainy Retro Wedding in South Wales: Pearce & Angela

Kat

O&C

December 12, 2014

Pearce and Angela love all things vintage and retro, so their 1950s wedding theme came easily to them. They wanted a theme that their guests could be a part of (with fancy dress!). The celebration was held at Craig Y Nos Castle near Brecon Beacons in South Wales. "We loved the venue because it was quirky, wonky and theatrical so it suited us down to the ground", Angela said. "It was once owned by a very famous opera singer, Madam Patte, in the 19th century, who used to throw lavish parties and entertain the great and good back in the day. It was actually completely different to what we initially had in mind for a venue, but when we walked in we just knew it was perfect!"

Cute and Casual Tooting Wedding: Ben & Helen

Foden

December 10, 2014

Ben and Helen had a casual wedding in Tooting. "We wanted to throw a wedding for our families as much as for us, to celebrate life and love and enjoy a special day together", Helen said. "It was important to us to celebrate all the years we’d already had together (and all the ups and downs, joy, growing up and hard work in that!) rather than acting as if the wedding was the start. So that was part of the message on our invitations, and we got the Registrar to frame the ceremony that way in her welcome – a celebration of 8 and a half happy years and the witnessing of our next step together."

Low Budget 60s & 70s Inspired Wedding: Sam & Mike

Tandem Photo

December 3, 2014

Sam and Mike got married in Vegas. They eloped and only told their parents they were doing it. Their friends had no idea, in fact they thought they'd gone to Greece on holiday! The couple didn't have any professional pictures taken of their Vegas elopement (they just snapped a few on their phones). When they returned home, they decided that they did really want to celebrate with their families too. So they decided to have a party in Manchester, with Tandem Photo there to capture the magic.

India Themed Wedding in the Peak District: Lyndsay & Joseph

Kat

Marshal Gray

November 26, 2014

Lyndsay and Joseph went travelled for four months in India and completely fell in love with the country - the sights, the sounds, and even the smells. When they got engaged they initially decided that they wanted to go back there to get married. Although this couldn't happen in the end, it did make picking a theme for their UK wedding a lot easier! Lyndsay explains, "We wanted to get married in India but unfortunately Joseph’s grandma became ill and we realised we would never be able to get her out there. We then decided we would bring India to the Peak District, which is near where we’re from. We wanted to bring everything that we love about India to our wedding, including the relaxed atmosphere, the food and especially the colours."
