Rock n Roll Bride - The ultimate guide for alternative brides

Vintage

Latin Lovers

Kat

October 9, 2009

Will & Aine had a Latin/ rock n roll wedding with gorgeous vintage touches in Santa Cruz. The term 'vintage' is thrown around a lot when it comes to weddings but looking at Aine's stunning...and I mean stunning...dress handmade by a friend and matching hairpiece, what other world could I use? The lace, the cameo, the cut...it's swoonworthy stuff! Will is a musician and plays in a Samba band so the day had a very Latin feel - from the bright colours (I adore orange and pink together!), the details and the music - it was a real eclectic mix of styles but it worked perfectly. Thanks so much to Gabrielle for sending me the exclusive first look at this stunning wedding. If you need more then go check out her blog and the slideshow! Credit: Gabrielle Fox Photography

WIN ♥ A Gorgeous One of a Kind Brooch from WristieLove

Kat

October 8, 2009

Let me introduce you to WristieLove, an online store selling beautiful organic, vintage or repurposed jewellery pieces that have that mix of intrigue and curious design down to a tee. Owner Sana describes her little shop as Your source for Wedding & Everyday Casual Pretty which perfectly sums up her ethos. This lass from California has always been put on edge by over-formality and she’s right you know, I wouldn’t limited these pieces to just your wedding day – in fact I wish I could wear one everyday! I think anyone can be well dressed and look 'pretty' if they OWN their style, casual or not. She told me I specialize in one of a kind accessories and metalwork. This includes etched copper tags, corsages, brooches and bags that feature curious and sometimes quirky design elements. All of my pieces are hand crafted incorporating organic, vintage (eco in its original form) or repurposed materials.

Country Garden

When reader Kate sent me a sneak peak of her wedding a few month's ago I knew it would be perfect Rock n Roll Bride material - especially after I laid eyes on her Candy Anthony dress! and Christian Louboutin shoes (a steal and brilliant find from Ebay!) As the the groom, Phil, hails from Wales the wedding had a distinctively Welsh theme and took place in Herefordshire on the Welsh border. The day was filled with personal quirky details and although the wedding may not have been as crazy or offbeat as the ones Kate had lusted after when planning her day, it certainly had the British 'cool' thing down. The reception took place at The Chase Hotel where the couple had a cheese cake (as in a cake made of actual cheese) made by Truffles Delicatessen,a personalised cake topper (dressed to match the couple's outfits) homemade welsh cakes baked by Kate and her great aunt. Thanks so much to Kate & Phil for sharing their gorgeous Welsh day with us....congratulations! Credit: Whole Picture

Personal & Vintage Touches

Kat

October 4, 2009

I really do love sharing weddings from the UK. Southampton based Az sent me Julia & Simon's quintessentially vintage English wedding and I just love it. The personal touches like the individually personalised beer bottles and the vintage finds such as the tea sets which the couple spent months scouring charity shops for all made their day perfect. Thanks so much to Az for sending these in. I look forward to seeing much more of you in future! Credit: Lemontree Photography

I'm taking a break from less pretty stuff to share this gorgeous session by Cathy Empey. Cathy attended a photography workshop held by Jessica Claire and took these a-a-amazing images whist she was there. The details are of course fabulous (check out that super duper cute newspaper decorated cake & cake topper!) but her perspective is what really drew me in to these...stunning. Made To Measure

Evita & Micheal had a very uniquely styled wedding and 'day after shoot' (which actually took place 4 months after the wedding but who's counting?) The whole glorious wedding is featured in the Fall issue of Weddings Unveiled Magazine (and will be on their blog, Completely Unveiled, later this week) but I was over the moon when Evita asked if I would like to share their American Gothic style photo shoot too. I fell in love with the fashion. Her fabulous dress, made from a slightly altered vintage Vogue Pattern (8416) with silk from Clarence House even had a matching corset which she wore underneath! Her feather hat was from Frock of Ages and those amazing customised shoes by Andrew Geller, originally from Stefan's Vintage Clothing and quite frankly to die for. Evita explained: I had them resoled at Peter & Sons in South Windermere shopping center. Insoles and toe embellishments done by me. Sterling acorn brooches were purchased on eBay. Swarovski hot fix rhinestones are olivine Thanks to Evita & Michael for sharing their shoot and details with us. I can not wait to see the whole wedding in Weddings Unveiled Magazine soon! A Hollywood Love Story

Kat

September 27, 2009

Ok so I was going to attempt to wait until mid nest week for the blogging of these little beauties but hell, I'm waaay too impatient. Ermm...wow. My mind is officially blown. Photographer and rock n roll sponsor, Katja Mukhina sent me these the other day after I saw a sneak peek on her flickr stream and begged her to send the rest to me as soon as they were ready! This 'Love Story' shoot was shot and conceived without the use of photo shop. The images behind the couple are all rear projections - super vintage Hollywood cinema stylee. I can not get over these....lordy lord they are so beeeautiful. Dear all my American readers... Katja will be travelling to The States In October and staying until November. She would love to shoot some American couples in this time and I know you would love to be immortalised so glamorously. So what are you waiting for? Drop her an email already! Thank you Katja...eeeek wonderful! Credit: Katja Mukhina

Pin Up’s, Croquet & Converse

Kat

September 24, 2009

Oh how I adore Sloan Photographers. I really really do. I say that a lot and about a lot of people but come on...these are way too amazing for words! As soon as I saw Tiphany & Jamie's wedding I was right on to getting these bad boys featured on Rock n Roll Bride. Lucky for me (and you!) the guys were ever so happy to oblige and here we have it. What I love the most is that the bride in in yellow Converse! No uncomfortable shoes for her. If this isn't rock n roll then quite frankly I don't know what is. ps Word on the street is that Matt & Angie have just shot an engagement shoot with a fuschia haired bride. Eeek I can't wait to see those! Thanks guys for sharing these. You are the best! Credit: Sloan Photographers

Retro Playboy

Boudoir shoots are certainly becoming more and more the norm nowadays. They are almost part of the package now - engagement shoot, boudoir shoot, bridal shoot, wedding day, day after shoot... Warning the photographs after the jump contain nudity and may not be safe for work! However Noa of Feather Love Photography has decided that boudoir shoots, although fabulous, need to be shook up somewhat. Gone are the overly sexy, satin undies and over the top 'gamour' poses and in their place...well what you see here. A celebration of the female form with a real retro, 1970's vibe...I love. Thanks Noa. I love these! Credit: Feather Love Photography

Thursday Treats – 24th Sept 2009

Kat

September 24, 2009

As you may have noticed I've tweeked the layout of the posts slightly this week. Now, you'll just get one preview image for each article and if you want to see the rest you just need to click 'read the the rest of this entry'. The idea behind it is to not only make the front page look a lot cleaner, but it means the pages will load a lot faster. My hubby/web designer was trying to make me cut down on how many images I posted to compensate for the slow page load time - now that wasn't gonna happen was it!? Apart from that don't forget that the awesome TokyoMade contest is still open. You have until tomorrow to tell me which right if your favourite and why. Come on, you know you want it! That's all I really have to report around Rock n Roll Bride HQ right now..let's see what the rest of blog land has been up to this week shall we?
