Short Dress

Historic Firehouse Bridals

Kat

July 7, 2010

Do you remember Megan & Kevin's 'Oh so adorable' engagement session that I posted last Autumn? Well when their photographer Erica heard that Megan was going to have a short wedding dress she couldn't wait to do a bridal shoot with her too. They originally planned to have the session in a chocolate factory bur at the last minute decided to an historic firehouse in Springfield, Missouri. Megan put together and styled the shoot herself with a dress from Delia's (which isn't going to be her actual wedding day dress - she's got another short dress to wear too though!) flowers that she put together herself, a cute birdcage veil from PinMeUpCouture on Etsy and Mootsie's Tootsies shoes from Ebay which only cost her about $20!

A Diy-Heavy, Cotton Candy-Eating, Vivienne Westwood-Wearing, Jeans-Definitely Allowed, Handmade, Carnival Themed Wedding

Jess & Bryan's is my favourite kind of wedding. I love the fashion, I love the style, I love the amazing diy touches and the whole chilled out and creative vibe of the day. "We really wanted usto be present in everything that was a part of our day" the couple told me. "We tried to make, and do, as much as we could for our wedding. This meant enlisting the help of our talented and wonderful friends and family to make paper cupcake toppers, straw flags, escort cards, wooden signs and much, much more! We all got together the day before the wedding to set up the entire tent and yard and then relaxed with a night of BBQing and laughing.

A Non-Vanilla, Love-Filled, 1950’s Delight

Kat

June 21, 2010

An excitable email from a newly married reader always brightens my day and LeeAnn's may have been one of the most excitable I've received in a while! I just had to share the story behind her and husband David's gorgeous 1950's influenced wedding with you today. "After gorging my eyes on a ga-jillion bridal mags and internet images, I felt I was living a white-out groundhog day" LeeAnn began. "I quickly became downhearted about organising my own BIG DAY, the no-fun casting my eye over "traditional" gowns (this one? no, that one? no, repeat), the vanilla-ness of invites, pink-and-white themes to the power of 42,000! Where did the love go?"

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Kat

May 26, 2010

I love this shoot because not only does it look like it was a mountain of fun, but the girls that put it together are the best of friends - make it even more adorable methinks! Photographers Michelle & Hanssie had the idea for this 'retro cars and vintage dresses' shoot and enlisted the help of a bunch of their industry friends to help them. The venue, a car museum called Astor Classics Events Center, had been thinking about opening it's doors for weddings and receptions so the shoot provided the perfect opportunity for some publicity...didn't the shots turn out great? I know I'd love to get married there - what a load of awesome locations for photo ops!

City Chic Fashionista Wedding

Kat

May 19, 2010

Lee & Rose got married in Liverpool in a super duper stylish way. Rose's outfit is literally off-the-hook! Have you ever seen a bride look so damn funky? Plus (and you're going to love this) it is all from the British high street! Be sure to check out the full list of where each item was found after the photographic goodness. I am just mad about those tights... "There was no real theme as such, but the sort of couple we are means that we wanted something relaxed, informal and fun" Lee , the groom, told me "We wanted a simple wedding, we wanted to wear the outfits we wanted, we wanted to pay for everything ourselves, and more importantly, we wanted our friends and family to come and have a good time, not feel like they had to behave in a manner they normally wouldn't, i.e. no strict seating arrangements, not worrying about which knife to use to cut the bread roll, etc. We're not show-offs, and we're not millionaires, and we have our own sense of style, so we couldn't see the point in all this so-called 'traditional' excess that means the marriage starts off with £30,000 worth of debt! It just wouldn't be us.”

Gorgeous, Heavily Tattooed Bride at Warwick Castle

Kat

May 11, 2010

There is no other way to describe this Warwick Castle shoot than kick ass. Is photographer Steve Gerrard fo' real? I can't get over how much I adore these and how much I want to be this bride! "I’m one of the castle’s recommended wedding photographers" Steve explained "so when I asked the lovely Katie Hill at the castle about doing the shoot, she was more than helpful, even allowing us to shoot long after the public had to leave the venue." Steve was helped along by local vendors The Bridal Boutique who donated a dress and The Blossom Tree who helped out with the flowers. Steve wanted to shoot two different sides of the bridal story so he found Steph, a classic English rose (you can see her session here)and Laura - the gorgeous, heavily tattooed chicka you see below. Rock-the-hell-on!

It's quirky, it's quaint, it's nostalgic, it's hilariously British and it has a killer night life! So when it came for Charlie & Ross to have their 'Cherish the Dress' wedding shoot, where better to descend then this wonderful beach location!? The couple actually got married in December so they thought the juxtapositionof having some lovely, warming, outdoor shots would be absolutely perfecto.

Uptown meets Downtown

Kat

April 5, 2010

I have no words... OK so that's a lie, I always have words. Lots of them. But this aaamazing 'Uptown meets Downtown' shoot which was put together by Adrienne Colosimo of Bespoke Affairs (I featured her own wedding nearly exactly a year ago!) and photographer Danny Weiss. I'm sorry but this shoot makes me want to live in New York even more...and I want to wear that Annlum Red / Anna Zhu couture wedding gown with biker boots and a leather jacket literally every day I'm there

Doing it Their Own Way

Kat

March 12, 2010

The pair employed no wedding vendors (except photographer Amber Hughes) for their wedding. They did the whole thing themselves and did it in style to boot! No expensive venue (they got married at home and had their wedding day shoot at Seawall) no over-priced outfit (Magalie wore a dress from BCBG, boots from Chooka with a flower in her hair from H&M.) The flowers were purchased in bulk from different florists in town and the couple put them together themselves. The tissue paper pom-poms were from a Martha Stewart tutorial. They pulled all the food and drinks together themselves and Magalie did her own hair and makeup.

Buddy Holly & Mother Nature

Kat

March 1, 2010

Amy & Nick's wonderful South Austin wedding had a distinct and very individual theme - perfect for them! Big fans of Buddy Holly and late 50's/early 60's music, it was important to them to really have that as a big part of their wedding. Amy walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Every Day played live by a friend on the guitar. Nick waited to marry his sweetheart decked out in a grey suit, Buddy Holly glasses and his favorite pair of Converse. Amy wore a dress by Dolly Couture which was perfectly accented by a Magnolia flower created by Amy Barber of Sweettooth Bags.

Floral Punk Rocker Bride

Kat

February 24, 2010

Lizz & Will tied the knot at Houston Mill House in Atlanta, GA. The wedding had a great floral, spring-like feel but with touches of punk rock throughout - just the way I like it! Lizz found her dress at Bridals by Elena in Glen Burnie MD. isn't it beautiful? Lizz told me "I had done some dress shopping for about a month, and nothing seemed to STAND OUT. Until I walked into Elena's. I had about 4 dresses I wanted to try on and was on my way to the fitting room when I saw my dress on a Mannequin. I instantly knew that was my dress. It was the first one I tried on and it was the last. Later that day I found the perfect shoes I was looking for, and when Elena saw them she thought it would be a spunky idea to die them the color of the purple sash on my dress. I was a great experience, and Elena and her daughter are amazing seamstresses" Thanks to Lemar, Lizz & Will for sharing this awesome wedding with us today
