Quirky Creatives

December 10, 2014

Ajay and Ejay were married at The Mango Farm in Antipolo, The Philippines. They chose pink and black as their colour scheme, and their theme was a mix of Converse trainers (which they both love) and music! "We wanted to show our different personalities on our wedding day, so we started planning the wedding with just a black and pink theme", said the bride. "Ajay was a rocker before becoming a lawyer and he’s still the vocalist of a rock band, loves wearing black shirts, and listens to Metallica. I, on the other hand, am a girly-girl. I love Hello Kitty and anything pink!"

Mark and Chai both love everything about the 1970s, so it was clear that this had to be their wedding theme. They were married in Manilla in March. "Our wedding was a DIY 70s hippie-themed day", began the bride. "We jokingly called it 'hippy ever after'! We love all the elements of the 70s: the music, colours, vibe, and art, and having all these in our wedding made it very unique, unpretentious, and very ‘us’. Both of us wish we were born in the 70s and our wedding actualised that dream!"

Paul Vincent

March 11, 2013

Rochelle & Nestle were married at Transfiguration Chapel of Caleruega in The Philippines. Although their wedding started off traditionally with a church service, the couple wanted the rest of the day to reflect their own styles. So they went for a dramatic but elegant blue colour scheme with touches of yellow. The bride wore blue ballerina shoes which she customised herself, the bridesmaids and flowergirls wore various shade of sapphire and the groom and his groomsmen had blue bow ties.

MangoRed

January 14, 2013

One of the main reasons I love Filipino wedding photographers MangoRed so much is because their wedding photography is quite odd. In fact it's darn right bizarre. It breaks boundaries that I didn't even know existed, and it challenges my concept of what wedding photography even is. These images aren't going to be for everyone. In fact I'd bet my entire sparkly handbag collection that some of you will not like them at all. But I bloody love them and their unapologetic weirdness. I'm inspired, intrigued and totally and utterly confused all at the same time. It's pretty darn wonderful. And that's before I even say anything about the actual wedding in the images - fake cotton wool clouds lining the aisle? OH MY GOD YES!

An October Lovefest in The Philippines: Ray & Yan

Kat

November 6, 2012

I love my Filipino readers. This tiny island has been full of Rock n Roll Bride fans pretty much since I began the blog which totally blows my mind. I've never visited, but I'm sure one day I will... I can't wait to meet all those awesome like-minded peeps! I love getting submissions from The Philippines too - not least of all because they always sign off with 'more power to you!' which I love, but also because their weddings are damn cool. Obviously Ray & Yan's submission was no exception - as soon as I saw that dress, which was hand painted by the bride's mother, I melted into a pool of wedding lust heaven.

November 5, 2012

It's getting seriously cold over here in the UK so what could be a better way to warm up than lusting over some beach wedding goodness? Jmie & KC's beautiful beach wedding is just what I needed! You might remember Jmie & KC from their boxing engagement shoot. Those that do will already know that these guys don't go for the conventional so a laid back and fun wedding was just what I expected. The wedding was held in the idyllic location of the Virgin Beach Resort in San Juan, Batangas.

‘Musikasalan’ – The Story of Two Weddings & Wedding Tattoos: Rob & Kit

Kat

September 1, 2012

Are any of you considering getting tattoos to commemorate your marriage? Well Rob & Kit not only did it, but they had their wedding photographer, John Nicolay, come along to take photographs of the event. Oh it's like all my favourite things rolled into one - I LOVE this idea. The couple's relationship and wedding plans were anything but standard - they actually had two weddings! - as Rob explained, "We met in September 2007 as office mates but we never really spoke to each other. Our first conversation lasted for 30 seconds and we only spoke a total of 5 words combined. I simply complimented the comic book that she was reading. Then in December I finally confessed my feelings for her but she told me she didn't want to be in a relationship. Gutted. But I was persistent. I wrote a poem for her daily for the next 4 months. In March 2008 she finally cracked and agreed to be my girlfriend but quickly after she had to leave the country to work in Qatar. We maintained a long distance relationship 5000 miles apart by writing each other daily emails.

A Bohemian Wedding with a Travel Theme: Ariane & Jonathan

Kat

July 16, 2012

Filipino born Ariane & Jonathan now live in New Zealand, which is where they chose to have their May wedding. The 3pm ceremony was held at in the vineyard of the Ascension Wine Estate in Matakana. "We wanted to showcase how New Zealand is part paradise and part home with our wedding, Ariane told me. "Marrying in a vineyard in the dead of autumn, what could be more gorgeous than that? Ascension Wine Estate was the perfect backdrop for us. The theme was a mish-mash of our passion for travel, photography, literature and the French countryside. We didn't really set something in stone, but in the end, the travel-bohemian theme dominated, with hints of shabby chic and vintage."

A Mixed Media Engagement Shoot: Francis & Mayone

July 10, 2012

If you want to see photography that pushes boundaries then look no further than MangoRED. This Filipino duo have been pushing my buttons ever since I first discovered them waaaaay back at the beginning of 2009. Their work continues to inspire me to this day. Why? Because they're continually pushing themselves to create. Their work has evolved - almost into a completely different beast - but the essence of unadulterated and unapologetic creativity has remained a constant.

July 3, 2012

I'm often blown away by the creativity and genius of my readers' weddings... but there are really only very few that stop me in my tracks. The fact that my blog attracts so many international readers blows my mind at the best of times, but when they're there, in my inbox, saying to me "You featuring my wedding would make my day! And my week! and my month! Haha!" Yeah... you really have to stop and think, "whoa, this is kinda a big deal."

A Boxing Engagement: Jmie & KC

Kat

June 29, 2012

I have another amazing engagement shoot from Rex of WeDoItForLove for you this morning. I've said it before and I'll say it again - no-one does engagement shoots like those Filipino wedding photographers! Jmie & KC love contact sports, particularly boxing, so theming their shoot around this was a really fun way for them to celebrate their engagement. "People usually choose themes where they will look really beautiful", Rex told me. "So it was really awesome that they chose a theme that's was a bit gritty and less beautiful. It also didn't need so much styling as they already owned all the kit. The shoot was devised around the 'actions' which made it really fun to do."
