Glam Rock Meets Tradition: Ben & Joslyn

Kat

November 2, 2012

I knew I loved Ben & Joslyn's Washington wedding as soon as I saw it. Never wanting to do what was expected of them, this couple wanted a wedding that was both sexy and glamorous but with small hints of tradition. "My style has never been typical so from the beginning I knew I wanted to do something fun and off the wall but at the same time mix it with traditional elements", wrote Joslyn. "I absolutely NEVER wear white so to me it was kind of fun and rebellious to wear a fancy white gown. Also I did not want my bridesmaids to look boring and from the beginning I had a vision of them in sexy leopard print dresses and hot pink heels. My girls were pure glam and total bombshells! I would say our wedding theme was glam rock meets traditional. I definitely made a point of having our style shine through. The overall theme though was fun, fun, fun!"

A Scottish Loch-Side Wedding: Wayne & Mac

Kat

April 27, 2012

Wayne & Mac were married at The Lodge at Loch Goil in Scotland. The beautiful venue and epic scenery really defined their gorgeous wedding. Newlywed Mac told me all about their fabulous day. "Rock n Roll Bride was a favourite blog for my when planning my weddings! It was a bit of a godsend actually as all the standard wedding websites and magazines made me feel a bit nauseas with twitterings on about favours and general frilly pinkness. Wayne and I are both fairly scruffy monkeys that don't do a lot of dressing up so we were keen to have a do that catered to us and our friends tastes. We wanted a fairly small wedding with close friends and family to have a chance of spending time with them rather than a quick 5 minutes that some mates had endured at their bigger do's. And we wanted to get some time together! The original plan was poking around a snow wedding in Norway or away snowboarding but the practicalities of shipping 20 plus people north or to mountains proved epic, and Wayne chipped in his 'must haves' of Scotland, bagpipes, and being able to keep his mutton chop sideys. We stumbled across The Lodge at Loch Goil during my many productive hours at work Googling and from our first visit adored it. Alice Gill, the head planner, and her assistant Kelly sorted out pretty much everything from their list of regular bookings - they do in-house catering (even with our veggie and gluten bothering mates), a resident florist and use local staff and suppliers for as much as possible including their own kitchen garden in the grounds."

Messing About on the River with Joanne Fleming Designs

Kat

September 13, 2010

I wanted to start this sunny and bright Monday morning with a bit of dress 'porn' for you all. Who doesn't adore looking at pastel colours, short hems and gorgeous attention to detail - all perfectly modelled by a stunning rockabilly-esque model? Exactly. The dresses are all designed and made by Brighton based, Rock n Roll Bride favourite Joanne Fleming. They are (in order of appearance) Clothilde, Audrey and Pieretta. Joanne also made the pretty damn stunning headpiece to go with the Pieretta dress. I am a particular fan of this dress in fact - made from metallic silk organza, it has the wonderful quality of tarnishing slightly over time, so the dress starts to look properly vintage very quickly.

A Wedding on Water

Kat

March 31, 2010

Julie & John got married in September 2008 at Luss Pier in Loch Lomond, Scotland. Although originally from Manchester, they chose this location as it was perfect for their ideal wedding - small and intimate - with only about 30 of their closest friends and family. They hired a boat from Sweeney's Cruises where they had their ceremony and drinks. Afterward they walked along the beach to the Lodge on Loch Lomond where they had their meal and the rest of their evening.

Day to Night

Kat

October 20, 2009

Anna & Simon actually had two days to shoot their engagements with friend and photographer Steve Gerrard. They hit two locations which gave both sets a completely different look. First up was the quaint English town of Stratford-Upon-Avon (random fact of the day - where Shakesphere was born) and the second at The Custard Factory in Birmingham. I can't help but particularly love the night time/painting with light shots though - v. cool! Thanks to Steve for shooting these over to me.

Too Wonderful for Words

October 16, 2009

I know I say this a lot but eeek I am so excited to share Vince & Amanda's wedding. I have been lusting over it ever since Lisa of Ophelia Photography showed me a sneaky peak and the full wedding certainly lives up to my hype! The candy coloured wedding took place at Minoru Chapel and UBC Boathouse in Vancouver and Amanda's dress was handmade by her Mother - how rad is that!? Lisa you rock my flipping world girl. Thanks so much for sharing these with Rock n Roll Bride. I heart you!

Anniversary Love

Kat

August 28, 2009

As photographers, Emmy & Aaron are more comfortable being behind the camera then in front, but for their one year anniversary (this week!) they decided they deserved some gorgeous photographs of their own! Emmy told me the whole story: When we took a little anniversary trip to a cabin on Cowichan Lake (Vancouver Island BC Canada) I pulled my dress, by Demetrios, out of the closet and took it with us. We had a great little cabin on the beach and there were some other perfectly decayed old buildings on the property including this great lime green shed. The owner expressed some concern that we were making photos in front of "the biggest eyesore on the property". I think that old shed is perfect!. We met over a conversation about our shared love of photography. Pretty soon we also loved each other and now we love making photographs together. We can't believe how lucky we are that we found each other and that we both have the same passion. I don't let him shoot me that often - I like being behind the camera as much as he does - but putting that dress on tends to let you become somebody else for a while. Doesn't hurt that its my hot hubby behind the camera! Everyone should do this on their anniversary – let those dresses out of the closet girls you look fabulous in them and they want to be seen! You don't have to be a photographer just head out and have some fun! I LOVE my dress and it was soooo much fun wearing it again!! Credit: E/A Photography

Sunset Love Story

Kat

August 24, 2009

I really need to be lying down with some honey and lemon and watching trash on tv as I'm sick...grr I don't do well when I get ill - boredom is not my Forté. I just had to drop by and share a few little images from this Russian engagement session entitled 'Sunset Love Story.' Totally beautiful huh? It's hard to choose, but I think the 'red heart lollypop' one has got to be my favourite. Too gorgeous! The photographer, Mukhina Ekaterina, will actually be touring the states in October/November of this year and would love to meet and photograph some rock n roll couples. Drop her an email if you're game! Until tomorrow, when I hope to be feeling less vile and able to share all the amazing weddings I've been sent over the weekend (I swear...they are all amazing!) Holga Love

Kat

July 28, 2009

I am really feeling the Holga love right now and when I saw these I knew I had to feature them as soon as possible. Shooting a wedding with a toy camera must be a precarious and slightly unnerving job (what if the film doesn't load? what if the photos turn out badly? what if I loose the film? eeek!) but photographer Daniel Krieger appears to have got his skillZ down and pulled this one off seemingly without a hitch. These images are just making me even more excited about getting my very own piece of plastic joy soon..ahh the light, the texture, the soft focus - swoon! Daniela & Chris got married at the ridiculously stunning Mohonk Mountain House. Have you ever seen a location so picturesque? Daniela's beautiful dress is the Fontaine wedding gown from J Crew and she is actually selling it right now on Craigslist. It's a size 4 and you may well be able to snap it up for yourself (if you're quick!) you lucky lucky things. Daniela has also shared a few little tips of her own: Enjoy every minute and roll with it. The quirks of your wedding are what will make the memories that much better. On our day, it was so cold that the ipod playing the bridal march (dum, dum, da dum) froze (literally!) and the audience had to hum the music. Couldn’t have asked for anything better!! Thanks so much to the brilliant Daniel Krieger for the photography, and the couple Daniela & Chris for allowing me to share their day. Credit: Daniel Krieger
