Hat

Emotional & Theatrical

Kat

October 23, 2009

Classy, elegant, retro. These are the words that came to me as soon as I saw Rebecca & Justin's 1950s inspired engagement session. The shoot took place at The Ritz Ybor in downtown Tampa, a venue which perfectly reflected photographer Alicia's vision for the session. Rebecca's polka dot dress was from PinUp Girl Clothing and Justin looked the part in his trilby hat (which retails at $75 but he picked up for $6!) and waistcoat combo. Thanks to Alica for sharing these wonderful images with us

Well people, hold on to your hats and prepare yourself for another bumper day of Rock n Roll goodness. Did something magical happen overnight or something? I have received a ridiculous number of amazing photo sessions and weddings this morning - I just hope I can bring them all to you soon! Starting off today is this gorgeous 'sugar and spice' rockabilly couple. She's a ballerina, he's a total petrol head (I think in America you call them 'gear heads'? - whatever, he is nuts about cars!) Cassy & Kelly headed to pier 39 in San Francisco with photographer Marin Kristine to get these amazing carousel/carnival/fun fair shots. The couple will be having a pin up style wedding in just 2 weeks and boy am I excited to see the results! Thanks to the lovely Marin for sending these over. Credit: Marin Kristine Photography

Tyson & Courtney are a quirky and creative couple and so what else would be perfect for their wedding than what full of quirks and creating! The event took place at the house and yards of The Dana Powers House in Nipomo, where the couple made the day their own with all the personal touches. Thanks to the lovely Beth for sharing these with me and yes I am waiting to hear who made the dress right now! Fret not... Credit: Bath Armsheimer Photography

Thrift Store Find

Kat

August 25, 2009

A few months ago, photographer Jennifer Williams' sister found this gorgeous vintage dress in a thrift store for $10. Being the helpful sibling that she is, she knew it would be perfect for a photoshoot and so bought it right away. Jen wnt on to tell me the whole story: The minute I saw it I couldn't wait to plan a shoot centered around it! I couldn't get those old images of Bonnie and Clyde out of my head from the old 1967 movie. Most of my inspiration was centered around that, although I mixed and matched decades into my own take on vintage fashion. Then I found out we had permission to shoot at this salvage yard and the shoot became this beautiful classy take on grunge. As weird as it sounds, that is the best way I can describe it. Good morning blog-land...how are we all? I have received some brilliant questions relating to the idea of Originality and Connections which I will certainly share with you all soon. Right, back to the gorgeousness and an adorable engagement session from Australian photographer Tim Harris. I was completely overcome by fashion envy when I saw these, for me it's all about her delightful dress and his awesome trilby hat! Credit: Tim Harris Photography

Too Stylish For Me

Kat

August 11, 2009

Bess & Matt...ahh what can I really say what would do justice to the images I see before me? The couple wed at Ridley Creek State Park with an amazing outdoorsy, rustic style fest. Of course Bess' tattoos and Matt's 'tache are what did it for me. Not to mention the dress by Megin Sherry, the check shirt (wow this Groom has some serious style) the casual garden flowers provided by Amanda Staples, the peacock earrings, the trilby hat and the cupcakes...oh yes Bess & Matt are just too stylish for me. Thanks to Amanda & Carina for sending me this glorious wedding Credit: Love Me Do Photography

Fashionable

Jenny & Ian got married in San Francisco this March. Jenny has a particular interest in high fashion and editorial photography and so the couple really wanted to bring this feel into their wedding. Everything from her Ulla-Maija dress to her amazing and unique birdcage veil/hat combo from Designs By Kristen, from her short reception dress by Priscilla of Boston Platinum Collection designed by Kenneth Pool to her Yves Saint Laurent shoes - every detail rocked that fashion look. I also completely love their reception details. The had a Chinese Banquet at Tai Pan Restaurant in Palo Alto, the theme of which is reflected by details such as their stationary, the flowers and their adorable anime inspired cake topper. Thanks to Rachel for sending these in...I heart them. Credit: Studio Castillero

I Tried To Do Handstands For You…

Kat

July 23, 2009

If you would have told me six months ago that I'd be getting submissions saying 'I shot this session with Rock n Roll Bride in mind' I would have said you were totally nuts. In fact I still think you're a bit nuts but I guess that's beside the point. Keira & Dan had a super cute session with Studio Nouveau. The vintage camera, the bright blue wall, the awesome trilby hat - yes I love it all. You've gotta watch the slideshow as well because I just can't get enough of this wonderful stuff. Thanks to Lara & Kate of Studio Nouveau for not only thinking of me, but for being super duper adorable. Credit: Studio Nouveau

Hat, Park, Dog!

Kat

June 29, 2009

I think this wedding is quite different to the style I usually favour, but I still love it! The hat reminds me of going to English weddings where all the ladies wear big adornments on their heads. Photographer Courtney, described this day to me: Megan and Norm were married on May 30, 2009 at Willow Park in Louisville, Ky. That had no attendants, except for their "ring dog" Misha. Megan didn't opt for traditional hand-held bouquet instead chose to compliment her outfit with a huge, gorgeous hat. The Bride and Groom opted to accent their wedding with fleur-de-lis, a symbol of Louisville. While the guests noshed away on vegetarian friendly fare, trashcans were adorned with signs informing everyone that all the serving ware was fully biodegradable. The music before the ceremony and during the ceremony was provided by local musician friends, and the guests danced during the reception to the musical stylings of a ragtime band, Rascals of Ragtyme.
