A Shoot to Remember

Kat

November 3, 2009

Unable to shoot her cousin's wedding, Lauri of Zoom Photography decided to give Kaya & Jon a day after shoot to remember! Kaya and Jon are a true meeting of the minds. She works in advertising and he in finance, living in their Chicago loft, mostly run by their pug Chloe and bulldog Sebastian. Jon's passionate love of music is apparent from the moment you meet him, his inspired word choice, verbose nature and unsurpassed loyalty also make an immediate impression. Kaya’s extroverted and vivacious qualities, coupled with her caring and generous nature make her noticeably standout in a room full of loud and boisterous people. Just four years ago, there was Jon making another brilliant decision before the blaring juke box at Pint, a Chicago bar. But, instead of steering to his old faithful albums in peace, his decision was abruptly challenged. A sassy, slightly rude girl leaned up against him as she uttered "don't play anything BAD". Little did she know, Jon's musical choices were never bad, but he did enjoy a challenge. Three years later they travelled through Europe, and Jon proposed in Poland, where Kaya was born. Pledging his life to her on the very soil where her life had begun, Jon asked that she spend spend the rest of her life with him. On September 26th, standing before all of their friends and family, they were married overlooking Lake Michigan, at the John G. Shedd Aquarium, downtown Chicago. In true family style, Kaya walked down the aisle with her great grandmother's necklace, her grandfather's WWII patch sewn into her dress, and her new mother-in law's sapphire ring, for a touch of something blue! The wedding colors were inspired by the aquarium, cool celadon greens, and dark emeralds; centerpieces accented with coral and branches borrowed from nature. The bride and groom chose to pass on wedding favors, in order to make a donation to their furry friends at the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago.

Let’s Rock!

Kat

October 29, 2009

Today I'm going to share a bunch of wedding that quite simply put..ROCK! You'll know why when you see them. Starting off with guitars, grunge bands and Rocky! The bride, Lizzie told me all: The overall theme of our wedding was our favorite music. Rich and I both love music and we both play guitar. I play guitar and he plays the drums. So I was really important to me anyway to incorporate our insane obsession for music as well as keeping it traditional for our family who were providing the funds. However although our wedding was 2 years ago and unfortuantly your site wasn't around to get awesome ideas from I think we did a pretty good job. We did not have a guestbook, people signed a guitar which also happened to be blue & brown which was our wedding colors. In one of the pictures attached one of my BM is carring it into the reception. Our card box was a floor tom with a hole cut into the drum head. Our tables where named after our favorite bands, Hole, Nirvana, Babes in Toyland, patti Smith just to name a few. Our favor was a CD of our favorite love songs, Love Buzz - Nirvana - Good GOod Things- The Desendants - Because the Night - Patti Smith. Again just to name a few. Our Bridal Party when they got annoced to the reception all came in carrying guitars and walked in to Breed by Nirvana. They all acted out a rock n roll clique by smashing a guitar and etc. My cake was Blue with huge polka dots which is just cool in itself if you ask me. We went to Philly to get our picture take the Rocky Statue and I have a lot of really cool pictures from that also. Thanks to Lizzie & Richie for sharing their Rock n Roll perfect day with us!

From the turquoise and orange pom poms and the personalised 'All You Need is Love' M&Ms to their friend playing 'Blackbird' by The Beatles and Dr Seuss' 'Oh The Places We Will Go' as gifts. From the sparrow salt & pepper shakers as a cake topper and succulents as centrepieces to the their customised 'lunchboxes' by Pink Avocado..oh yes yes yes! Shelly's beautiful dress was by Linda Asaf and I love it all! Thanks to Katherine for sending these over to me. I am in lurrrve Credit: Katherine O'Brien Photography

Pillow Fight

October 23, 2009

I saw a feathery sneak peak of Mary & Stephan's engagement session on their wedding coordinator's website and immediately shot and email to Erin & Court asking if I could blog them when they were all ready. Lucky for me they were of course delighted and I got the email this morning to tell me they were up. I knew they were going to be good because of the hilarious and fun 'pillow fight' scene, yet I wasn't expecting the rest - the balloons, the guitar playing, the balloons, the fun fair..eeek. These are just perfect! A massive, huge and ginormous thank you to Erin & Court for letting me be the one to share these simple beautiful images! Credit: Erin Hearts Court

Isn't this just one gorgeous couple? They seriously should be models methinks! I really do love props like the old books and the suitcases. They can make or break a shoot and these have certainly made it perfect. Thanks to the delightful Amelia for sending these in. Mwah! As soon as I say Ashley Rose's different perspective on boudoir photography I knew I had to share these with you. No bed, no 'sexy' light, no nakedness or expensive, especially purchased, underwear - in it's place a serious rock chick surrounded by things that define her personality - the cigarette, the tattoo, the records, the cute stripe socks and her favourite yellow top - these are the things she loves and these are the things that make her feel sexy. Thanks to Ashley for sharing this session with us Credit: Ashley Rose

Emma & Chris had their engagement shoot at home with the french bulldog Colby for company. Chris' sister photographed them using film and digital to get these great shots. I have had such a resurgence of love for film photography recently, I am loving reliving days gone by with the gorgeousness of real film photography so these are right up my street. Thanks to Emma & Chris for sending me these gorgoeus shots and I can't wait to see their wedding photographs (which will be captured by the wonderful Katherine O'Brien) Credit: Kelly Lynn James for Williams-Matson

I Tried To Do Handstands For You…

Kat

July 23, 2009

If you would have told me six months ago that I'd be getting submissions saying 'I shot this session with Rock n Roll Bride in mind' I would have said you were totally nuts. In fact I still think you're a bit nuts but I guess that's beside the point. Keira & Dan had a super cute session with Studio Nouveau. The vintage camera, the bright blue wall, the awesome trilby hat - yes I love it all. You've gotta watch the slideshow as well because I just can't get enough of this wonderful stuff. Thanks to Lara & Kate of Studio Nouveau for not only thinking of me, but for being super duper adorable. Credit: Studio Nouveau

Jailhouse Rock

Jana & Gerry's engagements kicked it. They had them in Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia... What makes us a rock 'n' roll couple? Well, we met backstage. Gerry has played in local Philly bands for years and we were introduced by his cousin. Being an attorney, I've been known to get into a shouting match (or two) with a record label over royalties for my man. Besides that, we're having one of Philly's best rock DJs do our wedding and we're having it at the Mutter Museum - because if you can't have a wedding onstage, medical oddities are a close second.
