August 27, 2013

I'm not really sure if any other words could bring as much joy to me as 'gold', 'neon' and 'unicorn', which is why I pretty much leapt off my chair when I saw them decorating my inbox. Wedding photographer Kris Holland sure does know how to push my buttons! Leilani and Jeremy were married in July. Their ceremony was held outside, in Galena Creek, Reno to be exact, and their DIY reception was in Jeremy's grandparent's back garden.

Casual Barn Wedding: Kate & Dan

Joanna Brown

August 26, 2013

Kate and Dan wanted a big celebration for their May wedding, but one that was also relaxed for their guests and a lot of fun. They wanted to involve them in the day as much as possible and not only had their guests bring cakes instead of gifts, which were eaten instead of a traditional wedding cake, but sent everyone a little packets of seeds with their invitations, asking them to grow the flowers and bring them along on the day. The crappy weather in the run up to the wedding meant that a lot of the flowers didn't grow very much but everyone still valiantly brought along their little seedlings to show the couple and to display at the wedding. Don't you just utterly love that idea?!

Tux and Tales

August 20, 2013

Daisy and Leigh's retro wedding themed came about because they knew they wanted anything but a traditional day. "We decided to go down the retro/ vintage theme, but I also didn't want it to be the typical ‘vintage’ wedding style that is everywhere at the moment!" Daisy wrote. "I also didn't want a traditional sit-down meal so we had afternoon tea complete with cocktails served in teapots. The wedding eventually became about all of the things we love from the 1950s to the 1990s! I wanted our wedding to be really unpretentious and for everyone to have lots of fun."

Six months after their legal ceremony at Brighton Register Office, Jen and Steve had what they would consider their 'real' wedding. "We wanted a spring weekend of celebration, filled with love, laughter and true meaning", Steve explained. "Having got the 'legal' bit out of the way we could design the entire day around what we really felt important to us, which was to be surrounded by like-minded souls having a relaxed weekend house party with a festival feel, centred around a Humanist ceremony that we wrote specifically for ourselves and witnessed by friends and family."

August 9, 2013

Ben and Emma wanted a wedding that was, above everything else, chilled out and relaxed. The day took place at The Star Inn in North Yorkshire, their guest list was limited and Emma bought and wore the very first dress she tried on. " What made our wedding so unique, was that we were sooo laid back about the whole thing", she explained."There were no 'bridezilla' moment and I only tried one dress on, my dress! Basically our day was about the three of us, we have a daughter, Noa who is 5. We did it our way with no bells or whistles. It was just relaxed, fun and full of love."

Vanilla

August 7, 2013

Terri and Brad had a woodland themed wedding in - surprisingly - a woodland! The venue for both their ceremony and reception was the Pecanwood Estate. "We wanted our wedding to be casual and symbolise the reason for celebrating the day, which was our love for each other", explained Terri. "Our budget was small and wanted to utilise things that we already had or things that we could make out of wood or paper keep it simple. The theme was based around swallows because they symbolise our love for each other. The day before Brad proposed to me we were at a tattoo convention in Cape Town and he suggested we get matching swallow tattoos. Swallows choose a mate for life, and will only nest with that bird and no other, we had them placed on his hand and my wrist as if they were flying into each other."

This Modern Love

August 1, 2013

Louise and Pete's Belfast manor house wedding was full to bursting with cute, quirky and retro DIY details. The bride wore a polka dot Candy Anthony wedding dress and looked every but the mid-century starlet with her beehive hair do and classically gorgeous make up. "We definitely had a retro themed wedding", Louise explained. "I took inspiration from Hairspray (especially when it came to my hair!) and had a pink polka dot 50s style dress. Pete had a teddy boy-esque suit. We played 60s garage songs during the drinks reception and 60s girl groups afterwards. We asked all our male guests to wear bow ties, which they did, including my 5 month old nephew!"

Moments Captured

July 26, 2013

Matt and Brig wanted their Brighton wedding to have a real community feel. It was also super important to them that it was eco-friendly and they used local suppliers as much as possible. "We met 15 years ago but at the time we were both with other partners", Brig explained. "Matt was the carpenter on an eco self build house that I was about to live in. Our kids were the same ages. Palm Springs DIY Desert Wedding: Rob & Diana

Sweet Little Photographs

July 25, 2013

Ron and Diana chose the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs to host their wedding back in March. Their day was simple and elegant but with an added dash of sparkle! "Our wedding had a desert chic theme!" wrote the bride. "The otherworldly modern feel of the natural desert offset by a palette of mixed metallics. We did a lot of DIY. I had a serious staff of dedicated friends – we crafted every weekend for four months! I even flew my future mother-in-law out from New York to help - she had great handwriting for all the personalized gift bags from her days teaching kindergarten. Don’t be afraid if you don’t know exactly what its going to look like when you are done, if you can dream it do it!"

Homemade Red and White 1950s Wedding: Maud & Robert

Kat

Susan Noelle

July 24, 2013

Maud and Robert's wedding was full on Rock n Roll! This Dutch couple went for a classic combo of red and white with a few touches of orange. Most of their guests even showed up wearing same colours! "For over a year I browsed Rock n Roll Bride for inspiration and was SO inspired by the lovely 50s and vintage and pin-up weddings", Maud explained. "All our friends and family expected something different for our wedding. They just knew it wouldn't be traditional or 'ordinary'. A typical Dutch wedding means a strapless long dress, a humongous sports car, doves, natural make up, a huge white cake... I don't like any of that, I never have. I like things to be a lot more vibrant and colourful! It's just us. It's who we are. In 'real life' my husband also rocks the pompadour hairstyle (even to work as a financial analyst!) and I wear pencil skirts and red lipstick every day. Our wedding showed exactly who we are."
