With the surname of ‘Gather’, Luke and Louise couldn’t not be inspired by this for their September wedding, and so ‘The Gathering’ was born - a bringing together of all the people who mean the most to them. The venue was a no-brainer. Luke grew up around the corner from Elvaston Castle in Derby, and went for regular walks around the grounds. The couple live together nearby and walk their dogs there regularly, so it holds a special place for them.

A few years ago, Ben saw something on social media about a couple who had invited their friends to a 30th Birthday party and then ended up surprising them all with the fact they were getting married. He told his (then) girlfriend, Alice, that he thought it was a brilliant idea and that he’d love to do something similar if they ever got married as he hates all the ‘fuss’ that a wedding tends to bring.

Miss Whittington’s

March 27, 2020

With a budget of just £4000, Kirsty and Ben knew their wedding plans had to be different to the majority of the weddings that Ben, a musician in a function band, sees day in day out. They wanted to have their day in a beautiful setting, but kept their guest list small to limit the expense. The wedding was held on a Thursday and they had just 13 guests at the reception, and had everyone sat around one big table for the meal, just like they were hosting a family meal at home.

Becca and Lewis had a two-part wedding. Their inspiration was colour... and lots of it! From rainbow balloons to the bride's Rixo dress (an eBay find!) and their incredible rainbow streamer photo backdrop, they went all out to make their party as fun and vibrant as possible.

They chose a local village hall for their September wedding. This not only meant Bronia and Joe had a lovely blank canvas to decorate however they liked, but it was a really affordable option (£500 to have it from Friday morning to Sunday!) The groom wanted a really big wedding, but the bride wanted to elope, in the end they met in the middle (ahhh, the secret to a happy marriage right?!) and had something medium sized but relaxed and informal.

The one thing that Mischa and Phil wished they knew about planning their wedding before they began was how “It’s basically like having a second job, where you work 40 hours a week and pay your employer lots of money for the privilege!” Their hard work paid off though! They wanted a day that expressed who they are and they shunned anything overly formal to have a relaxed, fun party for everyone and, as their photos show, they achieved just that.

Ali and Robin built their entire June wedding day around their loves and interests, and more than anything - they wanted to bring people together to have fun. They day was heavily influenced by film and music with popcorn on seats for guests and a playlist of their favourite film scores before the ceremony. Their tables were named after locations in their favourite films, which they then included in a question in the pub quiz they hosted before dinner.

They met online, on a music sharing website, when the bride was 16 and the groom, 17. They bonded over their mutual appreciation for the same music and even though Soraya lived in Northern Ireland and Koysor in Birmingham they became firm friends. They finally met in person five months later when Soyaya was over in London for a visit. Koysor travelled down to meet her and they became boyfriend and girlfriend (aww).

It’s 2019, so obviously you’re aware that styling your wedding no longer means having sleepless nights over what Auntie Maude will think of your choice of complementary bridesmaid dresses or meticulously matching the exact shade of sage green of your napkins to - well, anything. You’re fully aware that it’s a-okay to wear a black dress, rock a floral suit or dye your hair pink if you want to. I’d bet you’re constantly tagged in posts about unicorn fashion / rainbow cake / other slightly out-dated but once-alternative fashions by well-meaning but slightly clueless friends and family as the token ~Colourful One~. But when it comes to actually using colour in your big day, are you feeling stumped with where to start and how to get achieve the perfect balance between insta-worthy colour clash and a big old mess?

Jo and Tom wanted to take the bare bones of a traditional wedding and make it more fun. Their guests entertainment was their prime objective! They’d both been to weddings where there was a lot of waiting around which they found dull so ensured that from the beginning to the end of their day they had entertainment. Coupled with the idea that the day should reflect them as a couple, nothing more, nothing less - their grown-up circus themed wedding was born!
