Unpretentious & Family-Focused DIY Wedding in Anglesey: Anna & Adam

I'm not gonna lie, I've been looking forward to featuring Anna and Adam's wedding for a while. Anna is a wedding photographer herself, and I'm a big fan of her work, so I knew her own wedding would be something special. The wedding was 100% DIY. They picked a venue that wasn't specifically for weddings, but meant a great deal for them. They didn't want to spend a lot of money, so did most things as frugally as possible. Their main concern was that the day involved all the special people in their lives. The wedding took place by the sea in Anglesey in May. "We didn't have a wedding theme as such", began Anna, "we just wanted it to be colourful, relaxed, fun, full of laughs, unpretentious, family-focused and very much DIY and personalised to us and the people and things we love. We wanted everyone there to feel special and comfortable and get involved as much as they wanted to. Lots of weddings focus just on the bride and groom, but to us it was also very much a day about our wonderful group of friends and family. We’re both incredibly close to them and it was really important to us to celebrate the fact that we weren't just coming together as a couple, but also as part of a precious larger community."

Sharon and Matt's small Belize wedding at Honey Camp Ranch cost them just $5000. They avoided the usual trappings of a traditional wedding, instead choosing to do things their way. That meant everything was either borrowed, donated or homemade. The bride wore a custom wedding dress, made for her by her mother, and no shoes! She made the stationery herself and the flowers and reception decorations were collected from the local area.

Ames and Tel met when they were twelve, at school. Needless to say it wasn't love at first sight! However eleven years later they virtually bumped into each other on MySpace and saw each other on a few nights out. Shortly after that they started dating. "We didn't set out with a theme in mind for our wedding, we just knew we wanted a laid back relaxed do with close friends and family", Ames explained. "We didn't have much money to spend (our budget was £3000) so we wanted to do as much ourselves as we could. I think in the end we had a laid back, homemade vintage feel to the day."

February 17, 2014

With the bride wearing vintage, the reception at Rich's grandmother's home, and music playing a huge part, this July wedding has all the makings of the perfect Rock n Roll celebration. The day was also a real DIY effort, with everyone pitching in to make it perfect. A friend of the bride made her flower crown, all the flowers for the day were grown by friends and family and the stationery was made by the bride's brother. The cakes were brought by the guests. They had a 'bake-off' competition and the everyone won comedy prizes!
