Wonderful Waves

Kat

July 12, 2009

You are going to totally adore these. Nancy's dress is just gorgeous and all those wonderful waves throughout the skirt make for some pretty dramatic shots. I am just loving all the portraits (especially the ones with the cute doggie, sorry Edward - i.e. Groom!) Make sure you go check out their wedding slideshow to see the rest of the day too, it's worth for all the detail shots alone. Thanks to the wonderful Amelia Lyon for letting me share these with you all.

Candy Coloured Cuteness

Kat

July 11, 2009

Maria of Squaresville Studios has the kinda style I love - she adores candy coloured cuteness just like me. She ran a contest on her site entitled 'Bride with pink shoes rock' and Sally was the obvious winner as she wore pink Converse on her wedding day. Sally's gorgeous birdcage veil was made by Tara To The T, her make up was done by Holly Evans and Marlena Isbell was responsible for her faaaabulous 50's style hair do. I am also going a little bit nuts over those cotton candy walls! Thanks to Maria of from Squaresville Studios for sending me these sunny, neon , happy happy shots. Credit: Squaresville Studios

Family, Friends and Fabulous Fashion!

Kat

July 10, 2009

I have been dying to get the wedding up all day, and I am so excited that it is all now ready to go. Photographer Monika Broz of Project Mad Love sent me these gorgeous images alongside a fantastic overview of their day by the couple, Cori & Rollie. So without further ado... We wanted to have a relaxed but stylish outdoor wedding with a casual feel in the Lambertville/New Hope area close to where are families are from but not too far from NYC where a lot of our friends are. I always pictured the sun shining with fluffy clouds and blue skies and kids running around and everyone just kicking back and enjoying the good food and good company. We chose the Mills for it's beautiful location on the Delaware River and the charm and history of the buildings.

Spooky & Dark

Kat

July 9, 2009

Filipino photographer Jeffroger Kho sent me these stunning engagements which perfectly reflect his 'wild, crazy, and downright addictive' style. These are kinda spooky and dark but I seriously love them (yes even the creepy doll) Check it out... The client Mark and Johanna are photographers and very artistic individuals. You can check out their site here as well Happy Garaje Graphic Design and Illustration. Their style is really dark, desaturated, and textured. And I am happy that I was able to capture that and also reflect the clients style. The outfits are from the clients own wardrobe. They pretty much have everything already. They collect a lot of old stuff as well so it quite reflects much of their personality. I believe that this set is very Rock n Roll because it's different, downright crazy, non-conventional, and most importantly it reflects much of the personality of the client and not just a random theme just for the sake of having a theme. Thanks Jeffroger!

Been Done? Who Cares?

Kat

July 8, 2009

You know this about me already but I'm a huge activist for being yourself on your wedding day, however crazy, out there or even mundane (oh yes) that may be. As all the veteran readers will know, I ran a contest for free wedding photography a while back, and have now gotten to know our winners pretty well. I was chatting to the Bride to be, Vana, on the phone the other day for no joke, literally an hour about all things wedding (jeez that gal can talk he he!) and I'm sure she won't mind me telling you this, she was running a few of her newest wedding ideas by me to ask my opinion as to whether I thought they had 'been done' (for some reason she thinks I must be some kind of expert on such things…) I said this to her, and on her recommendation I am now going to say this to all of you...do not worry about tack, or about being over the top or if something you really want seems to be springing up everywhere in blog-land, and has therefore ‘been done’. Just remember this teeny tiny pearl of wisdom…Your guests won't have been scoring the Internet looking for wedding ideas for the last year so will have no idea if something has 'been done' or not! To me, our wedding was not completely nuts. We kept it quite simple with a black and white theme and a few personal touches, but we had so many people saying to us it was the most stylish and cool wedding they had ever been too...they hadn't spent the last year looking at other people's weddings and comparing themselves after all! So don't doubt yourself... Are you lusting after that cute Stephanie James Couturedress but are worried that in 10 years time the cute short dress look will look as dated as the poofy sleeved meringues of the 80’s? Pah, if I got married in the 80’s I would have wanted to remember the 80’s…2008 was the greatest year of my life and I want to remember that year through my wedding pictures. Have you have been dying to have cupcakes as your wedding cake ever since you started planning your wedding, but are worried because now everybodyseems to be doing it? Well a lot of people that are getting married may be yes, but everybody in the entire world?...erm no. Are you worried that your wedding isn’t cool enough because you spend all day looking at weddings that seen so much crazier/chicer than yours? (You are not alone by the way, I felt the exact same thing) You are more likely to regret planning a wedding in a style that wasn’t really ‘you’ than one that perfectly matches you and your fiancé’s tastes. So quit stressing about what other people will think and just do it already...and then send me the photographs afterwards! Now for a couple of trends I love and therefore don't care if they've 'been done'. Let me know if I've missed any of your favourites!

Traditional Korean

Kat

July 8, 2009

Jennifer & Matthew had a gorgeous traditional Korean wedding, which took place at Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden. Jennifer's beautiful dressis a traditional Korean dress called a hanbok, but with a modern twist. It was designed by Kim Mehee, who designed Sandra Oh’s dress for the SAG awards.... The couple went DIY'ed all the flowers! I love their peacock boutonnieres the most but I am also pretty crazy about her homemade bouquet, she used flake flowers to keep it looking perfect throughout the day. Credit: Caroline Tran

Superheroes

Kat

July 8, 2009

Didn't I tell you I had a lot of amazingness to catch up on? This is what happens when I have to hold off posting for just one day! Jenn & Graham had these crazy portraits taken on their actual wedding day as they decided to set enough time on the day to get some amazing shots (that's got to be every photographer's dream right!?) I adore Jenn's organic dress, it is just so stunning and of course it goes without saying that the bike shots, the Groom style (hot!) and the superhero cake topper are awesome! This has got to be one of the coolest weddings ever! Thanks to Erin of Fuller Edge Photography for sharing!

One Big Party

Kat

July 8, 2009

Aly & Elroi's wedding was described by the couple as 'one of the most magical days of our lives' A day filled with such a fun party vibe and one where all their friends and family pulled together to help them achieve the wedding of their dreams. Just a few examples of their amazing friends who helped out include, both their outfit's being made by a friend of theirs who lives in New York and another friend made and travelled with their wedding cake all the way from Texas! They had another friend cater for them and some other friends who made the invitations. Funny and persoanal anecdotes are what makes wedding like this great, and Aly spoke about their impromptu (and hilarious) bridal shower... So, I went to the coffee shop to meet them, got my coffee, sat down and realized that everyone was being weirdly quiet as I babbled and babbled. So, I stopped and was like, "What's going on? Why aren't y'all so quiet?" And my friend Lindsey says, "Well, I'm just going to tell you. You're kidnapped." "Huh?" Danielle, my MOH, shouts "Get in the car. I'm not gonna tell you twice!" (She was trying to be tough-sounding in a hilarious way.) So I was handed a clue that I had to decipher to tell them where we were going to. I was like, "Wait- you're kidnapping me but I have to tell you where to take me?" Danielle: "Don't ask questions!" Ha! So I figured out that the place the clue was talking about was the place Elroi proposed. So we went there and took pictures that would be left as a clue for Elroi, who has also unknowingly been kidnapped from our house by his side of the wedding party. (Side note: Elroi was actually kidnapped right in the middle of washing our dogs. So, Danielle's boyfriend who had been helping at the house took over dog-washing duties. As El's friends were leaving with him, Macauley, our rascally cake-maker instructed Danielle's boyfriend to just "wash as many dogs as you can." Every time I solved a clue, I got a present--so it was also like a surprise shower. I couldn't believe I didn't know anything about it and I felt so loved that all these people would plan something so elaborate and fun for us. Thanks to Aly & Elroi for sharing their gorgeous wedding and story! Credit: Our Labor Of Love

Chivalry Isn’t Dead

Whoa what a lot of votes we've had for the Tinywater contest winners so far! That is amazing - and only 1 day down! I held off posting yesterday to give the voting the best chance at the top spot so I now have some catching up to do. Check out this Anglo-American wedding, where the American Groom even did the right thing and asked the Bride's parents permission to ask for their daughter's hand in marriage. Cute! Thanks to Solaria for sharing this wedding.

Style And Silliness

Kat

July 6, 2009

Last post for today... this just landed in my inbox and oooh how pretty and fun these are. Anthea & Andrew started their wedding celebrations with a low key country style rehearsal meal complete with Anthea in a super cute gingham print dress, which lead nicely in to their vintage style wedding day, where Andrea's personal sense of style took centre stage again. Her beautiful dress was re-created from her Mother's wedding dress, and who can't but smile when they see the photographs of the couple with the crazy straw-glasses!? Jessica, these are fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing! ps tonight is your last chance to get involved with the Tinywater contest. I have the near-impossible task of choosing only 3 finalists now..eeek it's going to be really hard! Come back tomorrow to see who I pick, and to vote for your favourites to win!
