As soon as I say Ashley Rose's different perspective on boudoir photography I knew I had to share these with you. No bed, no 'sexy' light, no nakedness or expensive, especially purchased, underwear - in it's place a serious rock chick surrounded by things that define her personality - the cigarette, the tattoo, the records, the cute stripe socks and her favourite yellow top - these are the things she loves and these are the things that make her feel sexy. The Tiny Bride

Kat

August 30, 2009

I literally adore photographer Sarah Pukin's way of wording these images. I really can not compete. Enjoy this and enjoy these gorgeous images! The Tiny Bride. Once upon a time there was a girl who met a boy. The boy was in a band - when he saw the girl his heart grew and he knew she was the one. The girl gazed up at him and thought “could this be love at first sight?” As the boy came closer the girl reached her hand out - as he grabbed it they both knew that they were soul mates. They fell deeply in love. As time passed the boy and the girl got married and here are a few pages of their story. Thanks Sarah. You rock! Credit: Sarah Pukin Photography

The Last Days Of Summer

Kat

August 29, 2009

As much as we hate to admit it, summer is coming to an end. When we hit September and the kids go back to school that's pretty much it right? Hell I had to write an article for a magazine (hehe shameless self promotion to follow soon!) about winter weddings last week for crying out loud! However with the nights drawing in, we can't deny that the light gets that little bit more beautiful and the evenings become that little bit more comfortable - so comfortable in fact that Rachel & Nate felt the need for a pillow fight! You gotta love these...

Love Story

August 28, 2009

With a wedding that took place in a public library (Boston to be exact) what better than copies of 'Pride & Prejudice'' as favours and a passion in their portraits that could rival the greatest love stories. The backdrop provided almost a gothic feel to the images - the shadows; the low, moody lighting and the colours of the old books - all give such a romantic feel of history and grandeur. Anniversary Love

Kat

August 28, 2009

As photographers, Emmy & Aaron are more comfortable being behind the camera then in front, but for their one year anniversary (this week!) they decided they deserved some gorgeous photographs of their own! Emmy told me the whole story: When we took a little anniversary trip to a cabin on Cowichan Lake (Vancouver Island BC Canada) I pulled my dress, by Demetrios, out of the closet and took it with us. We had a great little cabin on the beach and there were some other perfectly decayed old buildings on the property including this great lime green shed. The owner expressed some concern that we were making photos in front of "the biggest eyesore on the property". I think that old shed is perfect!. We met over a conversation about our shared love of photography. Pretty soon we also loved each other and now we love making photographs together. We can't believe how lucky we are that we found each other and that we both have the same passion. I don't let him shoot me that often - I like being behind the camera as much as he does - but putting that dress on tends to let you become somebody else for a while. Doesn't hurt that its my hot hubby behind the camera! Everyone should do this on their anniversary – let those dresses out of the closet girls you look fabulous in them and they want to be seen! You don't have to be a photographer just head out and have some fun! I LOVE my dress and it was soooo much fun wearing it again!! Credit: E/A Photography

Adventure Playground Of Fun

Kat

August 28, 2009

Carrie & Brian got hitched on the snow-capped Mt. Hood at The Timberline Lodge. Carrie's amazing dress, cashmere-and-organza ruffle bolero and hair piece with chenille dot netting, feathers and flowers were all designed by Elizabeth Dye (who I have featured a few times before) an independent clothing designer in Portland, Oregon. Their wedding was a total adventure playground of fun. To get to the venue all guests had to snow cat up steep snow slopes of Mt. Hood in a near white out snow fall. Photographers Shawn & Bonnie went on to tell me more: Beyond that the night was full of quirk and personal style, from their unique toasts that involved in-unison speaking to their wedding vows that were a written haiku read line by line by each person in attendance. Thanks for sharing guys! Credit: Find The Found

The Wedding Of The Year

Kat

August 27, 2009

I am not the most patient of people and when photographer David McNeil told me about Caroline & Callum's upcoming wedding at the beginning of this year I was already dying to see the results. The couple not only found David through Rock n Roll Bride but Caroline proceeded to tease me with regular email updates on their wedding planning gorgeousness - from her amazing David Fielden dress to her perfect Vivienne Westwood shoes (I loved them so much I even attempted to make my own Rock n Roll Bride version!)

The City Of London

Kat

August 27, 2009

Find your photographer through Rock n Roll Bride then it's pretty much a given that I'm going to totally love your wedding and wedding photography! That's exactly what Carolyn & Marc did and yep, I was right - stunning! The couple got married right in the centre of London - 'The City' as it's known. I love this part of town. My Dad works around here so I have fond memories of visiting him at his office when I was younger, marvelling at the huge and modern nature of landmarks like The Gherkin and The Lloyds Building vs. the ornate detail of the indoor Leadenhall Market (where Carolyn & Marc had their reception.) I remember my Dad once taking me into on of the bars in this area which to a 15 year old kid was very exciting! Be sure to head over to Marianne's blog for a much larger selection of images from this day! Thanks to Marianne for sending these to me and stay tuned for yet another amazing wedding - photographer sourced from this very site - later! Credit: Marianne Taylor Photography

Kelty of Steep Street (who I have a total girl crush on by the way) send these to me and Eeeek! aren't they stunning? Domestic Bliss

So I received a link to this amazing lifestyle style engagement session last week and I have been waiting with baited breath all week to share them with you! I love the concept. It's like a day in the life of...series. It really reminds me of that Brangelina W Magazine shoot. It's got a great 1950's vibe to it all. Either way it's flipping gorgeous and Sabina & Andres make for fantastic models. Thanks to Molly & Matt for sharing this awesome set with us! Credit: Mathieu Photography

Soft Hues

Kat

August 25, 2009

Don't judge me ok? I should be in bed (for those of your following me on Twitter you will have no doubt seen the regular updates about my flu!) but I have a compulsion to blog that can not be stopped... Lisa Rigby shot this outdoor wedding last week and I can't get enough of the lovely pastel shades. I'm not normally one for subtlety (hello? my hair is pink) but the soft hues of her blue Stephanie James Couture dress coupled with her stunning bouquet and birdcage veil are undeniably gorgeous. The wedding ceremony actually took place at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Credit: Lisa Rigby Photography

Quirky, Colourful, Kitsch

Kat

August 25, 2009

I am crazy in love with Tanya & Mark's amazingly colourful DIY wedding! The event took place in Tanya's parent's backyard in Northampton, PA and totally reflected the couple's quirky, colourful, kitschy nature. They really put 100% of themselves into the day. Tanya made the invitations, the felt flowers, the centrepieces and most of the decorations herself and all of the tables were covered with unique vintage fabric sourced from various places throughout the wedding planning. One of my favourite details had got to be the pink flamingos everywhere though! Tanya says she has a slight obsession with John Waters so this detail was a must! Tanya found her and her Bridesmaid's dress from Ebay and her amazing red birdcage veil from Events and Occasions. Her shoes were from Modcloth and her red petticoat was found at Unique Vintage. Thanks to Tanya and Mark for sharing their day and all the gorgeous details with us! Credit: Matt Stanley

Thrift Store Find

Kat

August 25, 2009

A few months ago, photographer Jennifer Williams' sister found this gorgeous vintage dress in a thrift store for $10. Being the helpful sibling that she is, she knew it would be perfect for a photoshoot and so bought it right away. Jen wnt on to tell me the whole story: The minute I saw it I couldn't wait to plan a shoot centered around it! I couldn't get those old images of Bonnie and Clyde out of my head from the old 1967 movie. Most of my inspiration was centered around that, although I mixed and matched decades into my own take on vintage fashion. Then I found out we had permission to shoot at this salvage yard and the shoot became this beautiful classy take on grunge. As weird as it sounds, that is the best way I can describe it.
