Snowed In

Kat

December 19, 2009

So I'm sharing some of Kelty's work twice in two days but you'll forgive my repetition after you see these I'm sure. You have to understand, I couldn't hold off posting these until next week or something because England is currently covered in a blanket of snow so sharing these images right now is more than a little bit apt. You know Hannah & Alex. Their wedding rocked your socks off when I posted it in all it's glory back in September. So their anniversary shoot (as in anniversary of when they met up again after not seeing each other for 10 years aww!) covered in snow is just way to perfect not to post. There were strolls in the park, chased first kisses, prosciutto snacks, dog walks, a drive to the desert, and their first of many snowy Christmases in Portland together. The beginning of something wonderful, really. So they've donned their wedding gear and hit the slopes to celebrate their past, present, and future. Happy Anniversary, my loves! Thanks to Kelty, Hannah & Alex for rocking so damn hard. Credit: Steep Street

Anglophile

One word...Eeeeeeek! I am so excited about this wedding. Not only because it's photographed by one of my favourite photographers, Ben Blood; not only because the couple, Diane & Adam are super cool, lovely and stylish; but because even though the couple are both American and the wedding took place at Lairmont Manor in Bellingham, WA, they expressed their love of all things British with a fabulous English themed wedding. Diana told me all about their retro, funky, British punk rock day: My dress was from Les Habitudes on Robertson Boulevard in L.A.They specialize in getting a lot of their dresses from European designers that they bring in under their label, so most of their dresses are one of a kind. My shoes were Alexander McQueen and the hair comb I wore was a Victorian antique. The necklaces are by Pyrrha, in Vancouver B.C. Their bronze pendants are made from 19th century wax seal molds. The ones I chose say "My life is a prayer," "While I breathe I hope", and" Love conquers all." The blue seal ring on my finger was one I had from Anthropologie. The jacket I wore to leave the wedding is from All Saints in the UK. My bridesmaids are wearing runway dresses from BCBG. Our hair was all done by Shawn Wright, the owner of Ryan Chanel Hair in Anacortes WA. She researched runway shows of Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen for days before and we also channeled a bit of Helena Bonham-Carter's impeccable style. My husband Adam wore a custom grey suit we had made at Nordstrom and grey patent leather Italian loafers. His groomsmen were all wearing tweed vests and hats from J. Crew with "The Who" edition converse all stars because Adam had always wanted Chucks in his wedding. All our music was all British. I walked down to the theme song from "Love Actually," we danced out to Queen's "Don't Stop me Now," and Adam sang Coldplay's "Fix You" in the ceremony. Our band for the reception was Garage Voice from Seattle. We went with our overt Anglophile theme because I'm in love with London and theatre, so Adam flew me there for a weekend in March and proposed in front of Big Ben. We went back in June and collected tube station signs in Notting Hill for the tables, as well as teacups and pots from all over the world. Most of the hanging flags were from WWII. We're planning on moving to London someday soon.

Hollywood Rock

Kat

December 18, 2009

Megan & Marcelo met at a punk rock bar in Hollywood... so naturally their wedding would have elements of rock too. The day took place at the ube cool Marvimon in LA with the beautiful flowers being put together by Holly Flora. The bride wore a short hip wedding dress by Amsale and shoes by Gwen Stafani's label, L.A.M.B. The groom looked similarly hot to rock in his skull themed accessories. All the music was hand picked and complimented by the couple's favourite videos projected all night behind the dance floor. It felt like The Rolling Stones, Bowie, Devo, Love and Rockets and Nick Cave all attended the bash as well! The guests kept saying was that this wedding was just soooo Megan & Marcelo...and that is one the best compliments a couple can get. Thanks to Suthi for sharing this funky, Rock n Roll wedding with us today!

Cures What Ails Me

Kat

December 18, 2009

Some call it madness, many call it obsession but when I see images like these I just have to blog them right away! Can I tell you, last night I went out with the girls for sushi and cocktails and I woke up fresh as a daisy at 8am ridiculously excited about sharing Steph & Ryan's wedding, sent to me by the ever darling Kelty of Steep Street. Yep. I is crazy indeed. Having never been to Fresno before, I was surprised by the riches the town would have to offer. Namely, the fortunate acquaintance of two of the funnest people I've met and roughly 250 of their closest friends and family. I loved Steph and Ryan's no frills style and their guests were all friendly and hilarious, trying to drag me on the dance floor and sneak me drinks. Ryan even got up on stage to perform with his friend-- how cool is that?? Enjoy a small sampling of the fun below! Thanks Kelty for curing my hangover!

Hitting you Sideways

Omar & Laarni's ridiculously awesome engagement session was shot using a Mamiya RB67 Polaroid Back Camera by the genius brothers that are MangoRED. Now I may be obsessed with beautiful photography, but most technical jargon totally passes me by. Yet I thought it necessary to include that information with this post, as I'm sure, if you're anything like me, these will I literally stop you in your tracks as they hit you sideways with their awesomeness. Crazy in Love

Kat

December 16, 2009

A 'typical' engagement session this certainly is not. Axioo have gone and blown my mind again! Fun, flirty, hilarious, sexy, cool, crazy and quirky all in one shoot - you're going to go nuts for these. For Nico & Emil, together we came up with the craziest mix of ideas to show who they are. Each with a color of their own, but together they are truly one of a kind. Emil is gorgeous, when I first met her I really thought she's model or miss beauty queen. She's elegant, edgy and yet quirky...who would have thought she's a dentist. Nico is all out wacky, funny and full of expression. It's been a while since i know someone like Nico, he reminds me of Ivan our uber-hyper-creative photographer. Thanks to David for making me laugh today Credit: Axioo

This Wedding Rocks

Kat

December 16, 2009

Emily looked ridiculously stylish in her Ian Stuart dress...actually called 'Rock n Roll' no less (!) and her custom made shrug to match by Holly Stalder. I am also loving the faux fur coat she rocked when walking to the ceremony from Debenhams. Continuing their perfect Rock n Roll day, acoustic versions of Metallica songs played as the guests entered their reception at The Great Barn. Now head over to Rock my Wedding for the rest of the story! Thanks to Marianne and Emily for sharing their wonderful photographs and wedding gossip and to the Rock my Wedding girlies, Charlotte & Rebecca for working with me on this joint venture.

Quirky Details & An Old Fashioned Knees Up

Kat

December 15, 2009

It's official. I am actually starting to finally believe that the UK is catching up to America in the style stakes. When this wedding winged it's way to me from the West Midlands (that's a bit up north for my American readers!) I knew straight away that sharing it would make me a very happy blogger indeed. Katie & Matt had a very personal and private wedding with on 25 of their closest friends and family at The Moat House in Staffordshire. It was a right old party full of music, booze (of course) and lots and lots of dancing! Katie looked quite the Rock n Roll princess in her Ian Stuart 'Mae' dress and her Benjamin Roberts shoes. Matt looked just as stylish in his suit by Reiss. What made this wedding even better and more personal was that a friend of the family did the flowers and Katie's sister's best friend made the cake. Love it! Thanks to Lee for sharing this fabulous wedding with us Rock n Rollers today!

High Octane Glamour

Kat

December 15, 2009

Magda & Seba's funky NYC wedding took place at a Catholic church in Brooklyn and then the party continued at Staten Island's Grand Plaza. Their day had a distinctive black and red theme with certainly an edge of Rock n Roll - Magda even DIYed their beautiful and impressive centerpieces (flowers supplied to Carol's Florist) adding the crystals herself to really pile on the glamour. The cake also perfectly fitted their uber glam theme and was made to match their own vision by The Cake Topper, NYC. Magda looked every bit the glamour princess in her San Patrick 'Paramo' dress and Silver Manolo Blahnik shoes (she changed into red converse for the reception.) Enjoy the high octane glamour my lovelies! Thanks to Aga for sharing Credit: Aga Images

Custom Made Class

Kat

December 14, 2009

Anna & AJ's wedding certainly rocked pretty damn hard. They had a kick ass party at San Chez Bistro in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Although the day looked really classic and gorgeous, it certainly was edgy and unique in a lot of ways, which was a perfect reflection of who they are. Photographer Jill described Anna as a free spirit and who just kind of did things her own way, while still putting together a really classy celebration. The bride and her bridesmaids wore custom made dresses by Laurie Morrison and Anna had her birdcage veil made by the same designer. All the stunning and funky jewellery was by J Crew and the guys' look hot in their grey suits & pocket squares from Banana Republic. The whole wedding has a really great, laid back vibe to it and the end result is totally gorgeous. The best feature? Well Anna, her sister, and her Mum all have coordinating tattoos of their "family tree!" Fabulous Thanks to Jill for sharing this wedding and all the great info

Marylebone Lovers

Kat

December 14, 2009

Wooo more UK fabulousness people - this time with a kick ASS engagement shoot shot in Marylebone, London. For me, Emily & Callum epitomise London cool. Casual, funky, stylish and quirky - just the way I like it! Emily describes herself as a rock chick with a passion for vintage glamour, so I wanted to do something a bit different for them. We shot at night in a grungy car-park and the park next door, I still had to use a bench though! Thanks to Andy for sharing. Come on the UK!

Red Heels & Wheat Bouquets

Kat

December 13, 2009

I featured Mary's killer bridal session earlier this year - the aviators, gun and cigar really did it for me - so as always I've been eagerly awaiting for her wedding to Opie and I'm certainly not disappointed. I'm so exited that photographer Jenna wanted to share these with us: On her big day Mary not only rocked finger waves (vintage chic oh lala), a consignment shop wedding dress, a DIY wheat bouquet and red heels, but she and her beloved, Opie, had a wedding pie instead of wedding cake, saw each other before the ceremony (yay!), gave homemade truffles to their guests (and their photographer as well, which doubles their coolness factor in my book), and served hamburgers as their wedding dinner. Thanks to the every sweet, lovely and cool Jenna for sharing these today

Anarchy in the UK

Kat

December 12, 2009

Our little country continues to astound me this week with Kate & Seb's Sussex wedding rocking it's way into by inbox today. Photographer Sarah described this wedding as "by far the funkiest I have ever shot" and therefore it's perfecto for Rock n Roll Bride! Sarah went on to tell me all the details of wonderfulness: Kate and Seb were beyond cool and this shone through in their wedding. Seb is a tattoo artist in Brighton and Kate is a tattoo adorned beauty. They didn't want the conventional posed photo's more arty fashion style photo's. This gave me a great opportunity to be a little more creative than normal. Kate's attention to detail shone through in everything, from her Vivienne Westwood jewellery (YUM!) to her Candy Anthony dress....not to mention the Morris Minor. Thanks to Sarah for sharing this awesome wedding with us today. As always I am honoured to showcase it with the woooorld and am still loving the UK right now!
