Geek Chic

I have been dying to feature a photo shoot by Flory Photo in ages, and I think Curtis & Vali's shoot has given me the perfect opportunity. Photographer and friend Joel Flory actually shot their wedding back in 2002 - his first - and being such great friends with this pair, this shoot was extra special to them all. Is anyone else as crazy about those geek-chic glasses as I am!? So. Much. Fun! His suit was Express for Men and her dress was an 8yr old Jessica McClintock that she wore on their wedding day.

The NotWedding 2010 – Graffiti Chic

March 30, 2010

Those of you, like me, who were loitering around blogland this time last year will certainly remember the immensely popular 'NotWedding' event that was held in Atlanta. The photographs of the even circulated pretty much every blog - and with due cause. They were awesome (you can see my coverage from the 2009 event here.) The NotWedding is a unique bridal event in which a handful of Atlanta’s most talented and brilliant vendors come together to stage a one-of-a-kind wedding. Complete with an unforgettable ceremony, an over the top first dance, a cake cutting, and reception, The NotWedding has become a killer production that promotes an atmosphere which inspired brides towards creative options rather than cookie-cutter weddings. From classic to sassy, this year’s event hosted four different wedding themes for brides to visit: Enchanted Forest, Southern Glam, Vintage Chic, and Global Fusion.

I really really love doing my Under the Spotlight interviews as it's great to talk about the genius behind the lens for once. Today, I'm excited to share with you Shelly of Toast of Leeds - a fabulous photographer from - you guessed it - Leeds, who blew me away with her recent Punk Bride shoot. Enjoy! Who are you and what do you do? I’m Shelly Mantovani from Toast of Leeds. I shoot people. Where are you based and what cities/countries are you available to for work in? I’m based in Yorkshire but don’t let that put you off! I love to get on a plane or a train, it forces me to read books I keep buying and never get round to finishing.

I Love Rock n Roll (Bride) – The Movie!

Kat

March 26, 2010

Anyone that knows me will know that I'm terrible at keeping secrets...so this has been very very hard for me to keep schtum! Last week I got an email from Richard of FX Films (based in Oxford) asking if he could pop round and make a little film about little me. Of course I jumped at the chance. I am a big show off after all! Stand by and prepare yourself for some serious awesome. Richard is an actual genius - he made me look so good and the music choice is utterly perfect! The only thing I stipulated was that Henry & Rachel my Maine Coon kitties were in it (and they stole the show didn't they!) Oh the cute... So here's me on a 'normal day' - getting up, kittens, make up, blogging, shoes, car (I love my car!) and hanging out in the park. So. Much. Fun. If you're on the lookout for a funky, fun filmmaker for your wedding, engagement shoot, save the date etc then be sure to go check out his website. I can not rave enough how much fun this day was and how easy he was to work with.

English Country Garden

Jennifer & Ian's vintage garden engagement shoot is just so British - I love it! The slightly damp weather, the funky patterned wellies, the wheelbarrow and the greenhouse... I'm very much looking forward to seeing this couple's vintage themed Scottish wedding in May and I hope photographer Fjona will be sending the images straight over to me afterwards - think VW van, Scottish tablet in jam jars, old fashioned luggage labels and more wellies. It's going to be awesome I'm sure!

Funky, Punky, British {Part 2 – Wedding}

Kat

March 25, 2010

After seeing Emma & James' funky engagement session I couldn't wait to see the wedding and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Emma dress was a 1930's inspired design that was handmade for her in champagne crepe backed satin by 'Rags to Bitches' which is a vintage boutique on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. She teamed this will gorgeous peach, sequinned shoes from Karen Millen and a gorgeous vintage style headband which was made from glass beads and pearls from a bridal shop in Poynton, Cheshire called Timeless Bride.

Under the Spotlight – Newell Jones & Jones Photography

Kat

March 24, 2010

Anna & Aaron of Newell Jones & Jones Photography are one of those photographic teams you'll come back to time after time. As soon as I discovered them I scoured their website almost religiously, impatient to see what they were all about. The Denver-based pair's style is quintessentially Rock n Roll - fresh with a vintage, ethereal, nostalgic, organic, soft and dreamlike feel - subtle in its execution but dramatic when seen as a whole. I adore the photographs timeless feel, which will keep your memories alive for a lifetime.

Rock n Roll Bride in the Daily Express!

Kat

March 23, 2010

Oh. My. God. can someone please tell me what's going on over here?! A few weeks ago I got an email from Harriet Mellor, a journalist for the Daily Express, one of the most widely read newspapers in the UK. She was writing an article about 5-9ers, people like me who still work full time and run their own business in their spare time. She wanted to interview me to be included in this article and of course I was over the moon to oblige. If you're in the UK, I hope you were able to go pick up your copy today but for all the rest of you, here's the text around my 'bit'...and that huge photo of my pink head! Using out-of-hours as a launch pad
