One Night Only – Beautiful Bali Wedding

Kat

June 4, 2010

I challenge you to find anyone who's heard of Jonas Peterson and doesn't love him. His meteoric rise to 'rockstar photographer' status has been quite frankly ridiculous but with the credentials and talent he has behind him,I can't help but know that this success is nothing short of deserved. So popular is Jonas now that I usually don't even ask if I can blog his weddings anymore because more often than not they are snapped up by other bloggers quick smart but when I saw Sian & Barry's beautiful Bali wedding I knew I had to give it a go...and what do you know, he said yes!

Modern Film Noir

Kat

June 3, 2010

Christy & Daryl's engagement session has such a dramatic and cinematic feel that I couldn't help but fall in love with it. As well as my crazy obsession with all things wedding and photography, I have a bit of a penchant for the over-dramatic, in particular the film noir style, and this session reflects that to a 't'...yet with fabulous a modern twist! Those shadows are like nothing I've ever seen! "We set off one night with my good friend (and amazingly talented photographer) Edison Miclat, to find a nitty gritty location" Christy told me. "A factory / industrial park by the rail road tracks made a perfect back drop for our photo adventure. The night started with us creeping around an ivy covered building, and ended with dancing in a stinky ole meat delivery truck! The shoot was hilarious and so much fun. I've always loved Edison's mellow demeanor and his ability to produce cinematic, natural images. I am absolutely in love with the results."

A Bout De Souffle – A Cinematic Engagement

Kat

June 3, 2010

Shalma & Leo were lucky enough to find their photographer David through a feature on Rock n Roll Bride so as soon as the excited bride emailed me to tell me that they'd chosen David I was already looking forward to seeing what he would come up with for their engagement session. Over the past few years David has truly become the one to watch when it comes to his pre-wedding shoots. He's always pushing the boundaries and never fails to impress with his unique eye for detail. Shalma & Leo wanted to go for a film noir, classic film and super stylised shoot and in an unusual departure from his usual hyper colourful style, David decided process this entire shoot into black & white to fit in perfectly with this theme. "This couple are into their photography big time" David said "but they’re also in their classic films and wanted to have a pre-wedding shoot that referenced one of their favourites, A Bout De Souffle. This was a french film where the characters mostly smoke and drink coffee a lot - so we tried to recreate the streets of Paris in Richmond!"

Pure (Feather) Love

Kat

June 2, 2010

Emma Case is my home-girl. I love her. She is a massive (and I mean crazy massive, like totally obsessed) fan of Featherlove Photography so when she found out that Noa was over in London in April, she jumped at the chance to do an engagement shoot with her fiance Pete. As soon as Emma told me of her plans I immediately 'bagsied' the images for featuring as I knew, even without seeing a single frame or knowing the premise of the shoot that they would be awesome...and boy how right I was! I asked Emma this morning if there was anything she wanted me to add to this post and she simply replied "The only thing I would like to add is a big fat thank you to Pete. I cannot begin to explain how supportive he has been over the past six months. I love him with all my heart and he's so friggin' hot in these pictures it's unreal!!" So much cuteness. Now hurry up and get married you guys. I'm waiting for my invite in the post damnit!

The Happiest Place on Earth

Kat

June 2, 2010

Where could be a better place to celebrate the happiest time of your life that The Happiest Place on Earth!? "Mary and her strange love for Disney that only a comic-goth girl could have, met Carlos the guitar player for an LA metal band in 2004" photographer Colette Lash told me. " They fit together like rockers and latex pants. Mary rocks out at Carlos' shows, and Carlos stand proudly by his girl for her art openings and show premieres (she's worked on all sorts of tv/movie cartoons that have her wicked sense of humor like South Park where she has been for a handful of years) The two make art together too, Carlos builds these guitars and Mary does beautiful paintings on them."

Victorian Sci Fi & Steampunk Love

Kat

June 1, 2010

Following on from yesterday's Steampunk-esque wedding, I wanted to share another - and this time, an all out authentically styled Victoriana wedding fest! Stacy & Eric got married in April and had one of the most incredible weddings fitting this theme that I have ever seen! The whole wedding was filled with circles - from old type writers, clocks and top hats to that truly incredible (and fully edible!) cake (made by Let Them Eat Cake in California - seriously go check out their website, they have cakes and designs like you've never seen before!) You are going to go nuts for these details - I am loving the typewriter/flower combo. It's like nothing I've ever seen. The centrepieces consisted of flowers, old books books, typewriters, gears, light bulbs, test tubes and had a real authentic Steampunk vibe. Stacey collected all the props throughout their planning and then gave them to florist Debbie Fields who put everything together on the day. The place names, which were made of old-looking train tickets (found at a craft store) had individual keys stuck to them that with significant words on them like 'life' and 'dreams'. The keys and gears on the place cards were found at a local craft store-they come from a scrapbook line by a guy named Tim Holtz.

Sue & Shonagh Whimsical & Wonderful Wedding – A Touching Tribute

Kat

June 1, 2010

Sue & Shonagh actually got married in May 2008, however following the sad passing of Sue's Mum Hilary to Cancer just recently, with the full co-operation of the couple, both myself and photographer Caroline thought it would be a fitting tribute to share their whimsical and wonderful wedding with you today. Sue (in the tartan dress) and Shonagh (in the blue dress) were neighbours of Caroline and as soon as she heard the couple we getting married she jumped at the chance to photograph it. Another friend, who also lived in the same building, Vonny Mullock, made both the brides' dresses. Sue got ready in their flat and Shonagh got married in Vonny's flat. The couple met on the landing between when they were both ready and headed out together to get married.

Victorian Steampunk & Fancy Dress Fun

Kat

May 31, 2010

Caroline & Connor's wedding had a distinctly Victorian/Steampunk vibe. As well as the bridal party, all the guests really got into the spirit and dressed up for the occasion in vintage dresses and attire which was practically much all put together by the amazing Trish Roush at House of Nines Design. Not only did she help out the guests with their outfits, but she dressed the bride and groom - including making those incredible hats!

Dressing on the Side

Kat

May 31, 2010

Sometimes we all need a break from the world of wedding-madness and could do with a sit down to look at something beautiful, pretty and fun for no real reason than the fact that it's awesome. That's why I'm sharing this ridiculously cool 80's punk rock fashion editorial submitted by the super cool Galaxie Andrews. Galaxie (I can't get over how much I love her name) wanted to set up this shoot to help promote a local Arizona designer Donna from Dressing on the Side, who has an etsy store devoted to funky food-inspired tee-shirts. "We had a world-rocking team of designer, stylist, art director, models, all working together on this project making it completely awesome. donna even had a fashion designer cut up her shirts to give them a cool edge. We roamed around in our little western style old-town scottsdale, rented a horse carriage, ate ice-cream in an arcade, and played until sunset" Galaxie told me

Lucky in Love

Kat

May 31, 2010

Erik & Chelsea have a love of antique-y things: of books, of vintage treats and of the 80's! "We set out to showcase Erik's passion for cooking & Chelsea's English degree while creating a stylish, quirky- retro-y look" photographers Leslie & Ryan told me. "I must say we were also lucky enough to have full access to Renaissance Antiques, Chelsea's mother's lovely vintage shop! We found the lovely vintage hats there, the old tattered books, even Erik's ties."

Best of Blogs – Issue 9 ~ Emma Case

Kat

May 31, 2010

Anyone that's been following me in any capacity over the last 6 months will be well aware of my love and devotion to Emma Case. Not only have I featured as many of her weddings as possible (I can't get enough) but I've even been lucky enough to be photographed by her. I'd say we pretty much have communication every day (whether that be twitter, email, text or talking on the phone!) and I am honoured to call the talented and absolutely awesome lady my friend. So when it came to writing this month's 'Best of Blogs' article for uk photography magazine Photo Pro, who else was I going to choose? Enjoy...

A Sunday Kind of Love – Lisa Devlin

Kat

May 30, 2010

I wanted to start this week's post with a huge thank you to every single one of you for your kind words and comments on my 'How to...not be a blogging pushover' post. To everyone that stuck up for me and shared your love and passion for my little website - well wow, I've literally been blown away. I decided to share this story with you today because I think it can only add further proof of my love of all my sponsors, of how they make my world go round and of my genuine feelings towards them (and theirs to me it would seem!) UK photographer Lisa Devlin has been a sponsor of Rock n Roll Bride for the past few months. Not only has this got her many a Rock n Roll wedding booking, but it has provided me with more eye candy to blog than I could ask for! With Lisa's approval I wanted to share this card I received in the post this week. She also send me a little bag of treats including a Tatty Devine necklace! She knows me so well!

Soul Mates

Kat

May 29, 2010

It's such an honour that someone would send me a session to post only the day after they shot it! Photographer Ben Godkin was so convinced that Mandy & Braxton's engagement session was perfect for Rock n Roll Bride that he didn't hesitate to email me some images - even before the whole set was complete! "The couple , who are fierce backgammon players, were so fun and wanted to get some unique shots for their engagement photos! Ben wrote. "They were staying at a cozy little Bed and Breakfast called Settlers Crossing in Fredericksburg to finalize the details of their small wedding at Beckers wine vineyard in Sept. Mandy and Braxton had many tattoos but two that were particularly meaningful. They both had "Soul Mates" tattooed on both hands so when they joined hands they would always be reminded of their love. There was an abundance of farm animals on the property including horses, sheep, and donkeys, so we couldn't resist using them in the shoot. Then we headed to a local land mark called Enchanted Rock and made the 20min hike up just in time to watch the sunset, and the full moon rise... It was magical!"

Kat

May 28, 2010

So I was going to blog this next week but I literally can't wait. I saw Annette & Brian's totally gorgeous wedding on my friend Micheal Antonia's (aka the dj extroidinate behind The Flashdance) blog and like the lightning bolt that I am (when I come across something that's as awesome as this) I was straight in there with my request to feature it. So, alongside Micheal, the photographers Our Labor of Love and Annette & Brian themselves, I am more than ecstatic to share this way-too-rad wedding with you today.

Bicycles, Sparklers & a Whole lotta Style

Kat

May 28, 2010

Carley & Graham wanted a vintage theme for their engagement session. Now I know we hear the term 'vintage' thrown all over blog-land like it's going out of fashion, but I really do love the feel to these (note: if anyone can think of another word to describe 'vintage' please let me know - I'm kinda getting sick of writing it!) But anyway, that's besides the point - Carley & Graham's session does have a beautifully authentic vintage aesthetic to it...and for that I love it! Carley put so much heart and soul into their shoot and she brought along a whole bunch of creative things to incorporate. Touches like her and Graham’s vintage-style bikes (so COOL!) and her favourite camera that she got at a second hand store for only $15! Both Carley and Graham also put alot of thought into their outfits which really added to the over all vibe of the session and made it even more perfectly...well...vintage.
