A Las Vegas Alice in Wonderland

Kat

September 28, 2010

Amber & Mike pride themselves on their unconventionality and so wanted to make sure their wedding was just that too. "It made perfect sense to go to Vegas," Amber told me. "However, we even bucked Vegas tradition by not getting married in a small chapel by Elvis. We found an amazing garden complete with ducks, just right off the strip. I'd like to consider our wedding half elopement, half planned (we planned in 4 weeks). My muse for the entire wedding was a single lipstick that I'm obsessed with called Melrose Mood. Imagine the most obnoxiously, opaque, electric baby baby pink and you're sort of close to what it looks like." The bride is a make up artist so did all her hair and make up herself. In fact she seemed to almost enjoyed the getting ready part of the day as much as the actual wedding bit! "I spent the morning with my bridesmaids doing make up, eating gummy dice and card cookies (amongst other treats). We had an amazing bridal photo shoot in the atrium at Bellagio where we captured some sweet Alice inspired photos. Which is totally fitting since my husband is related to the real Alice in Wonderland, Alice Liddell (can you say "keeper"?). I wore were 6 inch heels entirely covered in Swarovski crystals. Needless to say the bridal shoot stopped traffic."

Pixel & Hank Handmade Bridal Accessories

Kat

September 27, 2010

Photo shoots are one of my favourite ways to promote...well...anything (we all know I've done it enough!) So when this shoot, put together by etsy seller, Pixel & Hank, to showcase her gorgeous handmade accessories landed in my inbox I was sold. "All pieces are designed and handcrafted by me" designer Daisy told me. "I create fabric boutonnieres, funky veils and accessories. My products are different because they offer a twist on what is expected without being to outrageous."

Candy Anthony, Cupcake Tattoos & Pink Converse Trainers

Kat

September 27, 2010

Some eagle-eyed and long-term readers may recognise Nicola, who's 'Do It Yourself' wedding I featured way back in May 2009. Nicola decided that she wanted to rock her gorgeous Candy Anthony wedding dress just one more time, so got in touch with photographer Caroline to see what she thought. Luckily, when Caroline heard 'Candy Anthony, cupcake tattoos and pink Converse trainers' she was totally up for it and they planned this fun and fashionable shoot. Caroline also persuaded Nicola to bring a few more outfit changes (does this girl just live in gorgeous 1950's style dresses or what!?) and they were good to Rock n Roll!

“Yes, You CAN have a Rock n Roll Wedding!”

Kat

September 25, 2010

For today's guest post I asked one of my favourite bloggers and recent bride-to-be Britt of Bowie Bride to write me a little sommat sommat. I am VERY excited as I'm going to be blogging the full report on her "ballstastic Rock n Roll wedding" just as soon as her pro pictures are ready, so I thought a little word from the lady herself might be nice way to whet your appetites for seeing her killer wedding in full! (I blogged their engagement session here) Britt wrote about something that I KNOW a lot of you will struggle with when planning your weddings (hell, I know I did) - thoughts like "Am I Rock n Roll enough?", "How are my family going to react?", "Will people approve of our choices?" Well sit back and listen to Auntie Britt, because she of the "no holds barred, titstastic" wedding fame is here to kick you into shape!

Photography Friday – Behind the Scenes at a Tattoo Magazine Shoot (+ EXCLUSIVE Photos from Al Overdrive)

Kat

September 24, 2010

I am so excited about today's Photography Friday post because I am revealing some behind the scenes shots from what I got up to this week. As always, I was a mean old tease on Twitter & Facebook and I was pretty coy about what I was doing, but I think most of you probably twigged that it was another photo shoot. However, what was kept top top secret was that the shoot was for a brand new super sleek tattoo magazine! The article on me, Rock n Roll Bride and tattooed weddings (hello, how awesome?!) but it isn't out until November, so unfortunately I can't share the favourite/final shots that are going to be used in the mag until then. However photographer Al Overdrive was kind enough to take and edit some especially for the blog so I hope they and these sneaky sneak peeks will keep you entertained until then.

Thursday Treats – 23rd September 2010

Kat

September 23, 2010

"What's the point of Thursday Treats?" someone once asked me. "Well," I replied, there's just so much beauty & prettiness on the internet every week and I can't possibly blog it all. Also, not everything I see might necessarily be really very Rock n Roll or perfect for my blog, but I know if I like it, a lot of my readers might like it too." "Fair enough" they replied "...and for the record, it's my favourite feature of the week."

Teen Vogue Inspired Engagement Shoot

Kat

September 23, 2010

This sweet and cute engagement session is something a bit different to what I often post. However I thought Krystle & Derek's Teen Vogue inspired shoot was the perfect way to show that you don't have to be all about tattoos, props and vintage picnics to be considered Rock n Roll! The couple, from Manila in the Philippines, styled their shoot themselves to have a 'mix n match' simple fashion-shoot theme. " We simply wanted our photos to look fun, flirty, fresh and alive with simple props" they told me.

Jill & Neil’s Vintage “Englishness” Wedding

Kat

September 22, 2010

Jill & Neil's wedding is vintage "Englishness" in every sense of the word. The whole day - from Jill's floral Fur Coat No Knickers vintage gown, to the London bus that transported them and the personalised vintage postcards used as invitations and then re-used as the table-plan - was an authentic representation of the theme they loved so much. "We took vintage inspiration from our own families, finding old frames in charity shops for lots of photographs of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparent's weddings," they told me. "These filled the fireplaces of the Lodge and meant we were surrounded by reminders of our ancestors as well as being beautiful pictures. Also, to entertain our guests on our bus trip we had a picture quiz to guess who the couples in the old photos were - with the answers on the back of the original at the venue. These were in bags made by a charity from recycled newspapers from The India Shop and we also included bus related gifts to keep the children amused - mostly from the London Transport Museum, and old fashioned sweets and goodies. On the tables we used luggage labels from the Post Office for place names, which my nieces helped stamp with butterflies and tied to mini jars filled with old fashioned sweets from Hope and Greenwood."

Rock n Roll Bride in Get Married Magazine

Kat

September 22, 2010

Yeah, so I'm just being a big old show off now (am I boring you yet?!) but I got featured in yet another magazine this month! Huge thanks to the guys at Get Married Magazine for picking me as one of their 'Best Loved Blogs' (and all you little kittens who miss the 'old look' Rock n Roll Bride can see my old logo/header again - the feature was put together a few months ago - these things take time to get to real life print!)

The Shining Inspired Glam Goth Wedding

Kat

September 21, 2010

Mindy & David got married at The Stanley Hotel in Colorado, the hotel that provided the inspiration to Stephen King for The Shining. "Our first thoughts about what we wanted our wedding to look and sound and feel like were all over the board" the couple told me. "Our first decision was the location. We had stayed at the Historic Stanley Hotel the summer previous, and while we were familiar with much of the folklore of the place, we were delighted to find character that goes far deeper than "haunted joint." We had a wonderful time and felt a connection to the Stanley."

Dave & Kirsten’s Tattooed & Quirky Chicago Wedding

Kat

September 20, 2010

Dave & Kirsten's kooky and personal wedding was created as a perfect reflection of them as a couple. Their love of tattoos, fashion and all things vintage was their inspiration and what really shone through on their day. The bride knew she wanted a flattering tea-length dress but after a fruitless search in dress shops and even online, she decided the best way to get her perfect gown was to create it herself. She went to the drawing board and drew out her ideal dress which she then brought to a seamstress who worked with her to make it. She accessories with a blue birdcage veil which she picked up from a vintage shop in Chicago. She picked the colour to match her bridesmaid's dresses. Finally, to complete her look she wore one of a kind jewellery all made for her by friends.
