Lacy & Brandon’s Edgy Wedding

Kat

March 24, 2011

"The first time I met Lacy was over 10 years ago in high school where we became fast friends," photographer Daniel Stark told me. "Unfortunately, she moved before our senior year and we gradually lost touch. When it came time to plan her wedding she walked into a bridal shop that happened to have my business cards. I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their fun, edgy, rockstar wedding." "Lacy has always been really cool and edgy even in high school. And Brandon couldn't have been a more perfect match for her. They quickly got identical tattoos with their own made up symbol that shows the love for each other. It was even on their wedding cake."

Elhaam & Mat’s Labyrinth-Inspired, Venetian Ball Wedding

Kat

March 23, 2011

This New York City couple wanted a super glam wedding with a twist...one that really reflected them as a couple, "On November 12, 2010, Mat and I were married at Capitale in NYC in front of 200 guests," the bride, Elhaam, explained. "I'm originally from Georgia, with Iranian ancestry, and Mat is from Leeds, UK, so we wanted to incorporate British, American and Persian elements with our own personalities and style to make the wedding truly our own. We're both in the music industry and that obviously played a huge role in the wedding too."

A Marie Antoinette Inspiration

Kat

March 23, 2011

You know I've got a bit of a 'thing' for Marie Antoinette right? Well Marie Antoinette + pink hair couldn't really be more perfect for Rock n Roll Bride if it tried could it? "This is what happened when 2 crazy photographers from different states in Australia put their heads together," began photographer Vanessa. "It all started with a wig Rhondda found on the internet (not the 1 we used actually) and after many chats and emails later we came up with Marie Antoinette as a bride. I wanted a bouquet out of the norm and didn't really want traditional flowers in it. What better florists to put my thoughts of an "APPLE" bouquet into something fab.."Velvetlily" florist. So after a talking to them about want I wanted they came up with this amazing result! I also wanted apples and vine in the hair!!..a bit of a task for the make-up artist but we got there in the end."

Gala & Nubby in Paris

Kat

March 22, 2011

It's not often that I post a non-wedding photo shoot, but when I found out that two of my favourite bloggers Gala Darling & Nubby Twiglet were off to Paris, and that while they were there they were doing a photo shoot with one of my favourite photographers, well I couldn't help but ask them all if I could blog the photos too. (note: technically there are some wedding elements in this...Nubby got married in Vegas last September and the white sequin dress was her wedding dress!) "Gala and I met online after she linked to one of my Parisian Trash the Dress photos shoots that you featured on Rock n Roll Bride. When I heard she and Nubby were coming to Paris, I suggested doing a photo shoot. The shoot was a collaboration between Gala, Nubby and I. My vision for Gala's photos was vintage with vivid colours. She liked the idea and brought the most perfect vintage dresses and hats for the shoot. For Nubby, I visualized a lot of black and white with red. I even brought along a red beret for her to wear for a few shots."

Melissa & Alan’s Multi-Outfit Wedding

Kat

March 22, 2011

Melissa & Alan are a pretty awesome couple aren't they? "We just wanted to be ourselves," they write. "No magical fairy tale kind of wedding, no heels, no leather shoes, no cummerbuds. Super down to earth and casual that says 'This is Melissa and Alan'." "Every details signifies us, as an individual as well as a couple. Things that we love are incorporated into the wedding. Vespa, sneakers, badges, boots, dreadlocks, beach, surf culture, reggae, live band, tulle, corset, and many more."

Ali & Mike’s Simple but Effective Wedding

Kat

March 22, 2011

I was sent Ali & Mike's wedding video by their videographer Ryan Hinman, which I immediately fell in love with...so much so that I had to know more about the couple behind it and so asked Ryan if I could share their whole wedding story - photographs and all. Luckily he was more than thrilled to oblige. The happy couple were wed at Red Butte Garden in Utah. Their ceremony was held in The Fragrance Garden and the reception in The Orangerie. Ali told me all about their day, "We really wanted the entire day to reflect our personalities and style, so we tried to add our own personal touches wherever we could. We served some of our favorite snacks at the reception, french fries, gelato cones and even had a self serve popcorn cart. We had a photo booth set up all night printing one copy for the guests to keep and one copy for our scrapbook that they could sign."

A Sneak Peek – Emma & Pete got Married…and it was AWESOME!

Kat

March 20, 2011

It's a bit unconventional for me to do two posts on a Sunday, but I just had to pop by and share a few sneak peeks of where I was last night. Emma & Pete got married! The whole wedding was a surprise. We were invited under false pretences (it was also Emma's 30th Birthday) Half way through the night, the couple disappeared, got changed (Emma into a stunning vintage dress from Fur Coat No Knickers) and got married right in front of us. I cried like an actual baby. I can't wait to see the rest of the professional photos from Steve Gerrard & Joanna Brown, but for now...

Behind the Scenes – Preparation for my Catwalk Debut at Luella’s Boudoir Wedding Fair

Kat

March 19, 2011

As many of you now know, on Monday I'll be walking down the catwalk at The Luella's Boudoir Wedding Fair. This week I was invited by Darren Fowler, Creative Director of the fabulous salon Clipso London to come meet him for a hair trial, and by the equally delightful Rachel Atwell, owner of Luella's Boudoir, for a dress fitting (well actually for 5 dress fittings...I found out I'm wearing 5 different outfits! talk about throwing me in at the deep end...) So on Wednesday, I got my little pink haired self on an early train to the city for a day of preening, pampering and for a little bit of freaking out.

N’tima & Steven’s Love Across the Sea

Kat

March 18, 2011

How are your emotions doing today? because I've got a wedding to share that will probably make you blub...there is just so. much. love right here! N'tima & Steven's love blossomed across the sea. The bride explained, "We lived in Okinawa, Japan when we met. He was 16, I was 14. We were kids. We were neighbours. We both were kinda dating people on & off here in America, so we were just friends. You see, my family had orders to be shipped to California in June. It was April, and Steven and I were starting to get close. We exchanged numbers, and everything moved so quickly after this point. Every day before I moved was spent falling in love with this beautiful boy. Although we denied it, and being together was scary to us. Distance obviously hadn't worked previously, so we decided we’d be just friends. Everyone around us knew we were ridiculously in love, but we kept telling each other that we had to stay friends. On May 26, 2008, Steven told me that he loved me, and that he would rather ‘try & fail with us, than not try at all.’ So June 6, 2008, I moved away, and we made the distance work for us. We lived through web-cam dates & 17 hour time differences. I visited November of that year, and April of 2009. By the end of 2009, Steven had joined the air force. He was sent to Basic & we lived through letters for 8 1/2 weeks. I visited for his graduation. He was then sent to Tech school across the country for four more months. I visited for Christmas. In January of 2010 he was sent to live 2 hours away from me here in California, completely by chance. How much luckier could we be, eh?"

I know some of you are still in mourning (be sure to follow me on twitter and facebook for regular and random personal pictures if you want 'em) but behold - a new feature! First off I've got to say thanks to everyone on twitter and facebook who helped me come up with the name for this post, I was struggling to be creative and couldn't think of anything to call it apart from 'Tip-day Friday' and that was kinda rubbish...

Thursday Treats – 17th March 2011 + Winner of 5 VIP Tickets to The Luella’s Boudoir Wedding Fair Announced

Kat

March 17, 2011

It's been a pretty exciting week for me this week. I was sat on the London Underground yesterday evening with photographer Penny McKinley-Rodgers (who had come to meet me to take some behind the scenes shots of my preparations for my catwalk debut at The Luella's Boudoir Wedding Fair on Monday.) I turned to her and said..."Wow, my life is weird huh? How do I get myself into this situations?" You see I'd just spent the day having my pink head crimped and coiffed at a hair trial, trying on some pretty darn stunning wedding dresses and meeting lovely people who'd made me lovely things to wear down the catwalk. I'll be posting the pictures to show you how my day went on Saturday so I hope you'll pop back then to see them. Talking of The Luella's Boudoir Wedding Fair, I'd also like to thank everyone who entered the contest to win 5 VIP tickets to the Luella's Boudoir Wedding Fair. I'm delighted to announce that the Rock n Roll Bride reader who'll be there to see all the madness unfold is...

Annette & Chris’ Fancy Dress Victorian Circus Themed Wedding

Kat

March 17, 2011

Annette & Chris had a fancy dress/steampunk themed wedding in Liverpool. The bride wore a corset purchased from Corsets UK and a skirt from MTCoffinzUnderground on Etsy. "My dress wasn't technically a 'dress' as it was a Corset and a separate skirt," the bride told me. "I bought the white and black steel boned corset for around £60 and the skirt, which was described as a 'Victorian Lace Gothic Ball Gown', cost around £100." She also wore Victorian-style black ankle boots which she hired from a fancy dress shop! Chris hired his unique outfit from a fancy dress shop too.

An Elizabethan/Alexander McQueen-Inspired Shoot

Kat

March 17, 2011

Do you remember the last shoot I featured that was styled by Sugar and Fluff? It was super duper popular with you lot, and I'm convinced this second set will have just as big an impact. The inspiration they ran with for this session was the Elizabethan period, "A sort of cold, romantic, dark and lethargic feel that illustrates the Elizabethan theater and also the dramatic style of the talented William Shakespeare," explained stylist Aasim. "Christine Farah and Sugar and Fluff came up with the story of the Widow/Great dame of the manor. It's a woman who sustains herself by luring men into her house/lair concocting a web of seduction and then having her way with them. She invites her guests to her bedroom where she draws her preys. She then lures them into the dining room where there's a grand feast on her dress (that's simultaneously a table) The feast looks too good to be real...enhanced to look golden in the light...but...upon closer inspection...it IS golden!"

Marco & Corinne’s Global Folk Art, Home-Spun Wedding

Kat

March 16, 2011

When I received the initial submission email from photographer Pat Dy, dubbing this as his 'coolest ever wedding' I had high expectations...and you know what I'm going to say here don't you?...I certainly wasn't disappointed! Marco & Corinne's home-spun DIY wedding was a real labour of love. The wedding took place at the Groom's parents house and they crafted their wedding mostly from items they already owned. Everything from their outfits to the flowers arrangement were hand made by the couple themselves or a close friend or family member. This created something totally unique and personal. "Our theme was global folk art," Corinne told me. "We just used mostly what we already have lying around our house. We wanted that all the elements were everything we both love. So much heart was put in by family and friends during the 2 months preparation of the wedding. My Mom even handpainted the 150 stones as favours."

Kat & Gareth’s “Beloved” Session with Marianne Taylor

Kat

March 16, 2011

It seems like forever ago now, but last year my friend Marianne Taylor sent me an email to let me know about an amazing and life-changing workshop she'd just completed. Hosted by Canadian photographer Jesh de Rox, the Life {as an artform} workshop had taught her some new techniques that she was desperate to try out and she asked if Gareth & I would model for her. This workshop wasn't a technical or a 'how to run your business' one. It didn't teach her a new technique with her camera or show her how to be a more successful photographer...it taught her how to use emotional exercises in order to bring the couple together, in the moment, and into a state where they are not afraid to show their true selves and explore the connection they have.
