Artistic & Wacky Filipino Wedding : Ryan & Garovs

MangoRed

January 14, 2013

One of the main reasons I love Filipino wedding photographers MangoRed so much is because their wedding photography is quite odd. In fact it's darn right bizarre. It breaks boundaries that I didn't even know existed, and it challenges my concept of what wedding photography even is. These images aren't going to be for everyone. In fact I'd bet my entire sparkly handbag collection that some of you will not like them at all. But I bloody love them and their unapologetic weirdness. I'm inspired, intrigued and totally and utterly confused all at the same time. It's pretty darn wonderful. And that's before I even say anything about the actual wedding in the images - fake cotton wool clouds lining the aisle? OH MY GOD YES!

January 12, 2013

I am a Wizard of Oz superfan and I'm already seriously excited to see the new Walt Disney adaptation 'Oz: The Great and Powerful', which hits cinemas in March. So clearly this shoot, inspired by the new film, was going to end up on my blog. I love Beth of True Love Photo for sending it my way! The shoot was styled based on the previews she'd seen so think weird and wonderful, quirky and fantastical, eye-gouging brights and funktastic details.

Neutral & Neon Bridal Style

January 11, 2013

Inspiration can hit you anywhere, and for wedding photographer Lindsay Hite, it came while flicking through a fashion magazine. "The trend neutral colors paired with neon in fashion really spoke to me", she told me. "I love the almost surprising contrast between subtlety and outspokenness and was curious about how it would work in a bridal setting. I drew inspiration from far flung corners - from Lana del Rey's flower crowns, to bright bold colors of childhood celebrations and vintage circuses."

Snow White and the Huntsman & A Twist on Winter Weddings

Kait Winston

January 11, 2013

Winter weddings don't have to be all scatter crystals and snow sprinkled twigs. They don't have to have holly or ivy and you don't even need to wear faux fur. Honestly, there are many other options out there, you just need to dream them up! Just like wedding photographer Kait Winston did after one too many trips to the cinema. Inspired by the movie Snow White and the Huntsman, Kait decided that edgier was better and so wanted to showcase a more dramatic twist on the classic winter wedding.

Thursday Treats: January Has Been Kicking My Butt

Kat

January 10, 2013

January has been kicking my butt. I'm not going to lie, I've actually shocked myself with how much I've got going on this month. No sooner had we ticked over to the first day of the year and I was relaunching my website (thanks for all your feedback by the way - and to any of you who might have be experiences problems viewing the full site - read this) announcing new dates for The Blogcademy, getting featured (and writing for!) Cosmopolitan ... oh and planning a whirlwind trip to Paris with my BFFs (more on this soon!)

Eco-Friendly Downtown Art Gallery Wedding: Amber & Jo

Kat

Hayley Rheagan

January 9, 2013

Amber & Jo's art gallery wedding was held in downtown LA. They kept things informal and low key, really wanted to focus on the ceremony and hoped to create a real community feel. "We wanted our wedding to be a representation of the things that are important to us and that we love, so we put a lot of thought into the details of the wedding", explained Amber. "We tried to create an experience for everyone that would be a memorable celebration of our love for each other and for our friends and family. Our venue, ArtShare, a non-profit that supports low income youth to get involved in the arts, was perfect in that it allowed us to support a great organization while also providing the perfect physical space. The venue is part warehouse (reminiscent of some of the great downtown LA parties we've been to); part art gallery, which created a lovely reception space; and part theater, where we had the ceremony. It also provided a great spot for photos, with the downtown LA skyline in the background and that uniquely LA combination of colorful murals, graffiti, historic buildings and palm trees."

Mexican Fiesta in the English Countryside: Julia & Stephen

January 9, 2013

Julia & Stephen were married at Knowles Lodge, Yorkshire, in September. The wedding, although set in the English countryside, had a colourful Mexican fiesta theme! "We wanted the day to be relaxed, intimate, rustic and fun", explained Julia. "I knew I wanted bright colours, and I have an obsession with Mexican food so a fiesta theme seemed to fit. As soon as I saw the Mexican team at the opening ceremony of the Olympics I knew we'd picked the right theme!"

The Evolution of a Brand & A New Look Rock n Roll Bride

Kat

January 8, 2013

I am a firm believer that the best brands are constantly evolving. As business owners things flux and change over time and so its really important to regularly check the way you're presenting yourself to see if you still feel on the right track. In July 2010, we launched the new look Rock n Roll Bride. Before that my 'brand' was a slightly chaotic mix of things I'd made myself in Photoshop and a header image that a friend had kindly created for me.

Iconic London Landmarks & a Truly Epic Wedding Dress: Jolyon & Kate

January 7, 2013

It's a pretty good indication that a wedding is 100% awesome when I sneak peek a shot of it on my facebook page and it gets nearly 400 likes! That's exactly what happened with Jolyon & Kate's wedding and I'm pretty sure it was down to one thing... Kate's epic wedding dress! In fact the wedding itself was quite low key. The couple were married in London with just immediate family around them but that didn't stop this bride going all out with her bridal style! She actually designed the dress herself with the help of a dress maker friend who helped bring her ideas to life.

January 7, 2013

Charlie & Simon's circus and rock themed wedding was held at Circomedia, a circus training school in an old church building in Bristol. The theme was a dramatic statement and full of all the things the couple love! "Our entire theme was rock - we're both into rock & metal music and we knew that we wouldn't have enjoyed doing something other than that", Charlie began. "I am South African and so having some bits from my background was also important."

New Dates for The Blogcademy: Portland & LA!

Kat

January 4, 2013

I am SO EXCITED about 2013, like SO SERIOUSLY EXCITED (can't you tell!?) and I'm starting 2013 as I mean to go on with new date announcements for The Blogcademy. Now I know we haven't even done our London workshops yet but, basically, we just couldn't wait any longer... At the end of March we're heading to Shauna's home town (I think many of you will have guessed that one!) of Portland, Oregon and the week after we're zipping down to LA. In fact we'll be in LA for my birthday which I'm rather enthused about!
