The Quirky

November 8, 2014

When it comes to me accepting submissions to feature on this blog, I always ask myself the same two simple questions: Will my readers like this? And are there ideas in here that people can actually apply to their own weddings? More and more these days, I'm only able to answer yes to both these questions with the real weddings I'm sent. However sometimes, just sometimes, a styled wedding shoot fits the bill as well.

Relaxed Gourmet Food Festival Wedding in South Africa: Rosie & Bryce

Summertown Pictures

November 7, 2014

Rosie and Bryce had many influences for their South African wedding, but most of all they wanted a day that was fun and relaxed and one where there was plenty of good food! "The inspiration for our wedding came from multiples sources", began the bride. "Namely; our 5 years together in Dubai, my time living and working Venice, Italy and our travels there, the countless markets we've experienced, and most importantly our upbringing. We didn't deviate drastically from the norm, but we definitely threw a celebration that was unusual in the South Africa context."

Skateboarding Hippie Wedding in The Philippines: Mark & Chai

November 7, 2014

Mark and Chai both love everything about the 1970s, so it was clear that this had to be their wedding theme. They were married in Manilla in March. "Our wedding was a DIY 70s hippie-themed day", began the bride. "We jokingly called it 'hippy ever after'! We love all the elements of the 70s: the music, colours, vibe, and art, and having all these in our wedding made it very unique, unpretentious, and very ‘us’. Both of us wish we were born in the 70s and our wedding actualised that dream!"

Thursday Treats: Practising What I Preach

Kat

November 6, 2014

Going from the past month or so of absolute chaos to this week, which has been relatively quiet, has been odd. That's not to say I haven't been keeping myself occupied (that magazine and this blog ain't gonna write themselves!) but I've said no to every invitation, turned down meetings and spent 99.9% of my time in my house, wearing sequinned sweatpants. Last week I wrote about how being busy and 'in-demand' is not an indication of how valuable you are as a person, and I've been trying to practice what I preach.

The 7 Dos and Don’ts Of Buying A Wedding Dress Online

Shell De Mar

November 6, 2014

There's something undeniably magical about going to a fancy bridal boutique, sipping champagne and trying on beautiful, exquisitely made, designer wedding dresses. But for a lot of brides - who can't or don't want to - the mere idea of dropping £3000 on a dream dress is completely out of the question! I think it’s good to have options and so instead of just blindly writing about it, I actually wanted try it out for myself. I ordered two dresses from Adorona.com, based in Shanghai, who sell made-to-measure and customisable dresses online.

Daisy B

November 5, 2014

Rachel and Luke were married in a field at Fernhill Farm in Somerset. They had their ceremony outside and their reception and after party in she sheep shearing barn! "Our legal ceremony was very low key at a registry office in Bristol the day before the wedding so we could have a personal ceremony at the wedding venue", began the bride. "We asked our friend Doug Francisco, Ringmaster of the The Invisible Circus, to guide our unofficial vows."

November 3, 2014

Married at Brooklyn Winery in New York, Lindsay and Jesse's wedding was fun, colourful and a perfect reflection of them. It wasn't all smooth sailing, but you'd never know that to look at these beautiful pictures. The bride wore a striped dress by Hayley Paige and many pairs of custom glasses! They had paper flowers instead of real ones and a Rice Krispy cake in lieu of anything traditional.

Halloween Wedding Shoot in an Abandoned Warehouse

April and Paul

October 31, 2014

Happy Halloween! I hope you have something suitably spooky planned? I'm actually out and about shooting all day, but I'm hoping I can get home in time to catch some trick or treaters later! To get you well and truly into the spirit of things, I'm going to share not one, but two, amazing Halloween-inspired wedding photo sessions today. Now, I know I said on Facebook recently that I was kinda over styled shoots, but there are always exceptions, and two I have for you today are definitely worth breaking my self-imposed rule. Pop back at 3pm for the second one. It's totally worth it, I promise!

Thursday Treats: Chocolate, Cologne and Ridiculous Nerves

Kat

October 30, 2014

What have I been up to since we last spoke? Er, quite a lot actually! Last Thursday I was in Brighton visiting my friends at Choccywoccydoodah. They make the most epic wedding cakes and I was there to take part in their first ever Witches Kitchen class. Upstairs in their brand new shop, nestled within the South Lanes, we got to decorate our own ChoccyWoccy creations. I opted for a white chocolate skull (I mean, how could I resist?) and it was surprisingly awesome fun! I went with my sister and we had the best time eating our body weight in sweets, getting our faces painted and drooling (not literally!) over the amazing cakes decorating the space. The Witches Kitchen would make an AMAZING hen do idea, but you can also hire their Empire Room for two hours worth of ALL YOU CAN EAT chocolate. Oh baby! Just make sure you wear trousers with a forgiving waistband.

A Native American Ceremony, A London Skyline View & A Bride in an Orange Jumpsuit: April & Dennis

My Beautiful Bride

October 28, 2014

There are some weddings I see which (forgive me, I know this is terribly unpatriotic) I instantly think, "damn, that's SO COOL, it can't be a British wedding". It's nice to be completely wrong though, especially with this wedding. In fact "SO COOL" doesn't even cover it a little bit... April and Dennis are off the richter scale! The Dutch/Kiwi groom and his American bride met in Amsterdam while they were both travelling around Europe. Long story short, they fell in love and settled in London. They were hitched on the roof of Rockwell House, a studio space in east London that comes complete with epic views of the capital's skyline.
