For Roxane and Pierre, a relaxed homespun wedding was perfect. Their small ceremony was held at city hall, and they hosted the reception in the bride's house. "Pierre and I met in Qatar, where we both work as airline pilots", the bride began. "Everything happened very fast and after eight months together we decided to move in together. The only problem was that you are not allowed to live together without being married in Qatar so we decided to get married!"Read more...

Do you dream about being your own boss, calling the shots, and never being told what to do? Do you want to live and work wherever you please? Are you desperate to be creative, to speak your truth, to find your tribe, to create something meaningful... and to get paid for it? I did too, and since starting Rock n Roll Bride my life has completely changed. I've won awards, been interviewed on television and radio, and been featured in magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Grazia. I've been profiled by the BBC, flown to Australia on an all-expenses paid trip, and become editor in chief of my own magazine!Read more...

If you're sad about the fact that your wedding day will be over in a flash, why not do what Mark and Alex did and have a two-day celebration?! They wanted both parts of their wedding to have their own unique personalities, so day one was a casual fancy dress festival party, and day two had a more glamorous, sparkly theme.Read more...

Jamie and Mat's intimate wedding was held by the marina in Carins, a tropical paradise in the north of Queensland. Their ceremony was right by the water, and their reception was held at Salt House restaurant. "We met while I was working at the Cairns night markets airbrushing hats", began the bride. "I noticed Mat walk into the markets and prayed he didn't come to my booth as I was covered in paint... but over he came to order some hats. I stumbled through conversation with him, discovering we were both originally from the small rural town. It was definitely lust at first sight! Two weeks later we went on our first date and we haven't spent a single night apart since! He proposed after just three months and we were married three months later!"Read more...

The Blogcademy Online launches this Thursday (eeek!) so to celebrate and get you all warmed up, I thought it would be fun to do another Q&A post. But to throw a cat among the pigeons, I decided to record myself talking through my responses, instead of just writing them!Read more...

Being big foodies, Billy & Laura knew they wanted to serve up an amazing feast at their wedding. But they wanted to do it in their own way, so a Full English Breakfast it was! "Overall we just wanted our wedding to be the best party anyone had ever been to", wrote the bride. "We wanted great food, music and laughter. We definitely wanted our food to be different as we’d attended 8 or 9 weddings the year before and had (albeit very tasty) the same meal over and over."Read more...

There is a lot of pressure surrounding weddings. Pressure to have the most gorgeous celebration, to spend the most (or least!) money, to DIY up a storm and for everything to be utterly picture perfect. So it doesn't come as a shock to me that proposal expectations can also be sky-high for the soon to be betrothed.Read more...

Don't get me wrong, love is a wonderfully glorious thing, but the forced "We're so in lurrrve, let's spend lots of money on overpriced bouquets and go to a packed restaurant with everyone else that's also in lurrrrrve" attitude around Valentine's Day isn't really my bag.Read more...

There are a million and one wedding fairs (or so it sometimes seems!) all over the UK. Aynhoe Park might be one of the weirdest and most wonderful wedding venues in the UK... because it's stuffed (boom boom!) full of taxidermy! Everywhere you look the walls are adorned with animals. They even have a full sized giraffe being held up by balloons! Rosie and James wanted somewhere unusual to host their alternative wedding and Aynhoe Park was just perfect.Read more...

The incredible wedding of Robin and Jeannine took place at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens in August. "As a queer couple (gay, female identified Jeannine and gender/queer, trans identified Robin) we found it important to craft our wedding and the many details on our own so that it didn't fall into a too traditional event that we ourselves didn't fit into", they told me. "We used and encouraged gender-neutral language, used as many recycled materials as possible, and put our hearts and energy into all the aspects of what turned out to be an incredible day. Jeannine literally took the summer off from teaching for the first time ever and approached wedding planning in the same manner that she might develop curricula for her students. We also asked for support and inspiration in myriad areas of planning and production from our community of talented friends and loved ones."Read more...

I receive emails from women worried about their wedding every single day. "Will it be cool enough?" "How do I deal with my meddling mother-in-law?" "Why are my bridesmaids being such arseholes?" But sometimes I get an email like this one, and more than with any of the others, I want to drop everything, find this person in real life and give them a massive hug.Read more...
