When newlywed Elizabeth emailed me to share her wedding and told me she wore the Princess Lasertron VuVu romper for the evening reception, well I just knew I had to feature them. A bride in a romper suit? hell yes!
“Our theme was supposed to be ‘Farm Fancy’,” Elizabeth explained. “People wore their interpretation of farm fancy attire, and some people really went all out – boots, denim, sparkly fire engine red onsie with white fringe! The theme quickly became ‘Wind-Blown Princess Lasertronerific Farm Fancy Booze Fueled Costume Pop Dance Extravaganza’. Awesome.”
“Brendan and I love the southern Utah high desert, our ‘people’, and theme parties. A wedding is the biggest costume party of all! Considering that Brendan’s proposal involved wing suit skydiving, a Los Angeles mariachi band, and a costume shop, our friends and family thought we would be skydiving, base jumping, or rock climbing. We decided to keep the risk of death to a minimum, and just stuck with having fun.”
The couple were legally married in March (they eloped!) but they wanted a big party to celebrate with their friends and family. They chose their hometown, Boulder, Utah, as the location. “As most of our guests had traveled really far to come to our wedding we had a welcome reception the Friday night before. Boulder, has a population of 189 people. For real – 189. There were literally only beds for 60 guests in town, so we kept the celebration intimate.”
The wedding was held at Boulder Mountain Lodge with the after party outside in a marquee. They put together all the decor themselves, the groom DJed and they even drank wine made by the bride’s brother. “Our ‘napkins’ were from a wholesale online bandana store…way cheaper than renting linens! Instead of doing a guest book, we put vintage postcards at each place setting. Our guests wrote their well wishes to us, and we’ve been getting them in the mail. We plan to read them on each anniversary.”
“Brendan made letterpress posters at a workshop that read, ‘I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart)’, from the EE Cummings. We recited these lines to each other when exchanging our rings, and it is engraved in our rings. The backdrop for the photo booth was a wedding quilt made just for us by a dear friend’s Mother. I think it is really special to have such a comforting reminder of such a momentous day. I can literally wrap myself in the love of the moment. *sigh* I’m a sap. I know. I’m OK with it.”
Awesome and fabulous! Thank you Elizabeth & Brendan for sharing your day (PS best dancing photos EVER!) I love you guys and how rad you are….oh and thanks for being so totally Rock n Roll (and for saying such nice things about my little blog…)
“I truly want to thank you for all of the time and effort you put into hosting a place for those of us not interested in the Wedding Industrial Complex. Who wants to spend money on favors that no one actually uses?! Now, if they could engrave those little multitools that fit on your keychain, I might have done that. Never know when you might need a phillips head screwdriver or something.”
