Tracey & Paul had an amazingly colourful wedding last week and I am so excited that the photographer, Otto Schulze , has sent them to me to share with you all. I just love all the button bouquets out there at the moment – so cute and they last forever too…bonus! These ones were made by Etsy seller Really Bad Kitty .
The colourful details in this wedding make me smile and the button theme has been continued throughout – how many can you spot!? The wedding was expertly planned and by Table 6 Productions and Delilah’s Flowers of Denver did all the amazing real flowers!
Thanks Otto!

Michelle & Deborah’s Romantic Parisian Themed Wedding

Michelle & Deborah's touching ceremony was one of the main reasons I wanted to share their wedding with you all today. Quite apart from all the beautiful and individual details the couple put into their day, the readings and poems that they selected for their ceremony made this wedding really special and signified their relationship perfectly.
They chose Shakespears Sonnet 116, a section from the children's book "I Like You" by Sandol Stoddard and "I carry your heart with me" by E.E Cummings for their vows. Finally in order to include the fight for equality they read the Massachusetts ruling on marriage. They thought it was so simple and basic and spelled out what marriage meant to them in a perfect way.
"FROM GOODRIDGE V DEPT OF HEALTH (Mass. 2003): Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. Without question, civil marriage enhances the “welfare of the community.” It is a “social institution of the highest importance.” Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family… Because it fulfils yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life’s momentous acts of self-definition….It is undoubtedly for these concrete reasons, as well as for its intimately personal significance, that civil marriage has long been termed a 'civil right'."

One of the things that really stood out in your survey responses was that a lot of you wanted more Rock n Roll same sex weddings. Well my dears, you ask and I deliver! I have actually been dying to feature Lindsey & Amanda's wedding for a while now but with wedding season being in full flow I have been a trifle busy! Evan and Catherine were married at the iconic Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco and their reception was at the super cool Chambers Eat + Drink. They wanted a wedding that was edgy yet elegant - just like them! The venues they chose really helped to set that mood. "After a long search for wedding venues, we were feeling uninspired", Catherine began. "Pricey and cookie cutter was the theme for most of the spaces we looked at. We needed to find a place that inspired not only us but our guests."

Ahh the circus! So colourful, so fun, such a perfect theme for an alternative wedding! Tamara and Chip's Florida wedding was a true DIY labour of love. They did almost everything themselves.
"We are both light-hearted and fun people, so we wanted our day to feel like a party with our family and friends", explained the bride. "We are not stiff and formal, but love vibrancy and uniqueness! Our whimsical circus theme fit perfectly with how we wanted our wedding day to feel."

A Red & Black Rock n Roll Wedding: Theron & Erin
Kat
July 16, 2012
Happy Monday everyone! I thought I'd start this week with a bang, some much needed sunshine and the gorgeous May wedding of Theron & Erin. The couple were married at Vizcaya Pavilion and Mansion in Sacremento and had a red & black themed celebration.
"Our advice to future brides & grooms would be to stay organized and delegate tasks in order to stay sane", Erin told me. "Don't change anything in order to make other people happy... stay true to who you are and what you like. We knew that people were going to want to rock out and mingle, so we didn't force anyone to a sit down dinner... it was all about the open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres!"

Cute and Casual Tooting Wedding: Ben & Helen

Ben and Helen had a casual wedding in Tooting. "We wanted to throw a wedding for our families as much as for us, to celebrate life and love and enjoy a special day together", Helen said. "It was important to us to celebrate all the years we’d already had together (and all the ups and downs, joy, growing up and hard work in that!) rather than acting as if the wedding was the start. So that was part of the message on our invitations, and we got the Registrar to frame the ceremony that way in her welcome – a celebration of 8 and a half happy years and the witnessing of our next step together."

Heather and Jeremy had a distinctive 1920s vintage theme for their South Carolina wedding. Held at The Farm at Ridgeway, the Friday wedding was a true labour of love, with the bride hand crafting and collecting nearly everything herself. She scoured thrift shops and antique stores and got a lot of things from Etsy.
