Vanessa & Brian’s DIY wedding has a vintage bicycle theme because cycling was what brought them together. The day was held at Simpson House , Kansas City and started with an intimate ceremony on the gardens. Vanessa walked down the aisle to “I Will” by the Beatles, performed acoustically by a local couple. After the kiss, everyone rang bells that were placed on their chairs. They also decorated their venue in a way personal to them. Wheat was an important decorative element as Vanessa’s Dad was a wheat farmer and passed away when she was young. She even has a tattoo of wheat on her arm in memory of him.
The couple put a number of DIY elements into their wedding including the ceremony backdrop which was actually a flower and ribbon chandelier created from bicycle wheels. They even had a super cute bicycle cake topper made for them by their coordinators, Hitched Weddings + Events . “Our inspiration was the shared passion that we had for cycling & all things vintage”, they explained. “That really helped us to think out of the box and try to incorporate touches of the motif without having it be too ‘themey’.”
Thanks to Vanessa & Brian and their photographer Chelsea Donoho for sharing this beautiful wedding with us today.

Ahh Emily & Chris' Florida nuptials is what my wedding dreams are made of. Getting ready in the Hard Rock Hotel (my spiritual home for sure) this achingly cool pair had their beautiful wedding at Ybor City Museum Garden in Tampa. Emily wore the Greenbow lace gown by BHLDN and Miu Miu shoes, while Chris kept it casual yet chic in a checked shirt and a vintage velvet jacket combo. The 1970s is an era that many might feel should be left back with the flares, disco and Woodstock hippies, but I'm am here to tell you the exact opposite. How bloody cool are these two?!

Tess & Ray’s Dream-Like Backyard Wedding

July 12, 2011
Tess & Ray's backyard wedding is pretty much what my dreams look like. Tess told me all about it and I swooned over every detail, "From the very beginning Ray and I knew that we wanted our wedding to be relaxed and FUN, but most importantly something we could be proud of. We wanted to stay true to ourselves and not worry about any kind of fuss or frill. We wanted to make our dream a reality without breaking our backs trying to pay for it."

Sigh! I just adore weddings liked Mark and Erika's. Chilled out, not at all matchy-matchy and where everyone looks like they had a total blast. The couple didn't wait a 'tick the box' wedding, instead they pulled inspiration from all over - their heritage, their home and their friends. "We didn't really have a theme or colours that matched", Erika wrote. "I have always been a mis-match kind of girl so we had elements of our backgrounds so Japan / Yorkshire / countryside / Autumn / vintage/ boho!"

DIY Countryside Wedding in Transylvania: Anda & Paul

Anda and Paul had a nature themed wedding in the Transylvanian countryside. They love all things rustic and are fanatical about DIY so it was the obvious theme for their big day. They were married at a church and afterwards they both jumped onto a home made chariot (a chair strapped to a board attached to the back of Paul's bicycle) to head to their outdoor reception.

Lara and Gav were married in Lara's parent's back garden. They set up a marquee and decorated it with collected and borrowed items from friends and junk shops. "The garden was beyond perfect despite the rain", explained the bride. "It has been lovingly created and maintained by my parents since they moved in 15 years ago. It has always played host to whimsical parties, and lent itself brilliantly to the occasion."

For their June wedding, Julieta & Christian wanted a day that was laid-back, fun and stress-free. They opted for a garden setting and a party late into the night. The couple both have a passion for music, but Christian particularly who is in a band and loves nothing more than to go to gigs or play one of his nine guitars with his friends. Clearly the music and the entertainment was going to play a big role in this celebration.

When it came to planning their wedding, Nicole & Tom knew they didn't want a big fuss. In fact a private elopement at home was just the ticket. They did everything themselves from the decor to the food for their small number of guests and the music. They set up a video camera for the ceremony to be livestreamed to their friends & family that couldn't attend.

A Homemade Back Garden Wedding: Philip & Katie-Jane

Philip & Katie-Jane had a handmade wedding in the bride's parent's back garden. They hired a tipi and decorated the whole garden with the things they love - creating a really magical looking space. They even converted the shed into 'The Poppy Red Shed' (Poppy Red is a bar in Birmingham which the bride and groom first met) which they stocked with local ales, spirits and liquours.
