Have you ever wondered what it would look like if a six-year-old threw the most epic birthday party imaginable? That’s exactly the vibe of Jordan and Kyle’s wedding—so much so that two separate guests arrived late to the ceremony because they thought they’d accidentally stumbled into a child’s birthday party after seeing the decor!
But that was exactly what they wanted – a fun day which sparked joy! “Our theme was either a ‘classy dinosaur wedding’ or ‘what would happen if the fanciest six-year-old you know had a huge birthday party’,” Jordan explained.
From the moment guests arrived, the theme was unmistakable. A rented Jurassic Park Ford Explorer greeted them at the entrance, and the couple embraced their theme fully with dinosaur footprints on the aisle runner, golden dinosaur centrepieces adorned the tables, and a free-to-play claw machine stocked with stuffed dinosaur toys.
Kyle’s father, Tom, officiated the ceremony. “Not only is he a great public speaker, but he was able to create something that felt so meaningful to us,” Jordan said. “Kyle, his dad, and the wedding party walked down the aisle to This Will Be by Natalie Cole and Jordan walked down to the Jurassic Park Theme by the Piano Guys.”
The couple exchanged their own vows, unintentionally referencing the same line from the book All Tomorrows: ‘For today and all my tomorrows’. Finally, honouring Jordan’s Jewish heritage, they signed a customised ketubah before the ceremony and ended with a gender-equal twist on the traditional glass stomp. “I’m the one who’s actually Jewish,” Jordan explained, “so we both stomped the glass.”
The reception was a full-on party. Guests were encouraged to embrace the dinosaur theme, and they delivered—from ties and themed dresses to full-blown costumes on the dancefloor. “Three guests surprised us by showing up in blow-up dinosaur suits during the dancing,” Jordan laughed. “If the party wasn’t already a rager, that’s when it really took off. Our flowergirl, Kyle’s cousin, had a custom dinosaur tail from Etsy and dinosaur slippers for the reception. Watching her dance was a joy, as the tail whipped around and smacked into people (a true apex predator). It was perhaps equally delightful to see her maneuver the tail through the back of her chair while eating dinner!”
Jordan and Kyle also thought carefully about their guests’ experience, especially for those who had travelled long distances. Late into the night, an In-N-Out Burger truck rolled in—a nod to their out-of-state visitors who’d never had the chance to try it. It also served as the perfect fuel for an evening spent dancing to 1980s pop hits like Was (Not Was)’s Walk the Dinosaur.
Their advice to other couples is to stay close throughout the day. “It’s so easy to get pulled in different directions,” Jordan concluded. “We made sure to stick by one another. We had a wonderful moment when we were the only people in the dessert tent before the baker brought the cake out. A slow dance song spilled out from the reception area, and we danced together—just the two of us—under the fairy lights. It was a really special moment.”
