Misty and Alicia’s Portland wedding truly celebrated their individuality. The couple brought their shared love for creativity, fandom, and DIY into their day – almost everything was handcrafted by the brides! Misty’s job involves selling her incredible artwork at fan conventions across the US, so they even had a cute vendor booth for “merch”!
Although the couple loved the idea of incorporating several different themes, they eventually landed on a blend of celestial and tarot aesthetics, with a nod to the convention scene.
The outfits they chose reflected their individual styles too. Alicia and her bridesmaids had a whimsical, fairy-like vibe, while Misty’s crew embraced a more punk, rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic, with Misty in black. Despite the contrast, it worked and felt cohesive because it was so true to who they are.
Walking down the aisle was another moment where their personalities shone. Alicia chose Pure Imagination to accompany her, while Misty opted for the unconventional choice of a cover of Dragula by Lissie. Their vows, taken from Corpse Bride, tied everything together with a touch of goth romance. “We forgot a lighter for our candle ceremony and had to improvise, which was hilarious,” Misty laughed. “We even had to pull a ‘what’s in your purses’ routine when we couldn’t find a bottle opener!”
The day continued with a mix of chaos and fun. “Some guests started a summoning circle with candles,” Alicia laughed. The reception offered plenty of interactive elements—guests could jump into the photo booth or relax with table-top games. Tables were decorated with tarot card-inspired lanterns, and Mario Kart was projected on a big screen throughout the evening.
Despite how much they DIYed—almost everything, in fact—Misty and Alicia found that their biggest investment was the venue. “The venue handled the setup, food, drinks, and clean-up,” Misty said. “It was worth every penny.”
“Our advice to other couples is to plan everything together,” they concluded. “It’s a partnership for a reason! Also, remember it’s your day, not your in-laws’, not your cousins’, YOURS. So, do what you want!”
