Kelli and Kyle’s wedding theme was dark, moody, romantic and relaxed. Held in a family home, they went very non-traditional and the bride DIYed all the decoration so she could make it exactly how they wanted it. She even wore a black wedding dress to go with the dark and moody aesthetic. The couple’s main motivation was just to have a day which stayed true to their own style.
They also included Scottish elements, as a nod to Kyle’s heritage. “We had a bagpiper play as a surprise to my husband and we rode into the wedding in style with two awesome red and black old cars (a Falcon and a Camaro)”, Kelli said. “We had a fake tattoo station and a cigar and whiskey bar which I think fit our style perfect as well as including our fur babies as much as we could! Our drinks were named after our dog, Swanson, and two cats, Meatball and MaryJane. We also had big blow up cutouts of each animal along with their faces on a stick, which were a huge hit! We even had figurines made of them on the cake, we truly tried to make this wedding just about our favourite things and whatever felt special to us.”
The ceremony was a deeply special part of the day, held in front of a pond under beautiful blue skies. Kelli walked down the aisle to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, a song that meant a lot to her dad, who passed away before he could walk her down the aisle. Her cousin, Ryan, did the honours, wearing her dad’s black and red AC/DC tie. The couple exited to the sound of the bagpiper playing.
Kelli took on the challenge of DIYing all the wedding décor, creating every sign, centrepiece, and bouquet. “I bought all the flowers, which were not real, and used them for wedding projects”, she explained. “I added flowers to the lanterns to line the ceremony aisles, to the ceremony arch, to the signs, created flower centrepieces and made all the bridal bouquets”. Seeing everything come together on the wedding day, thanks to her wedding coordinator, was incredibly rewarding and guests continually complimented the beautiful and fun décor, making all the effort worthwhile.
