I have been dreaming about blogging this wedding since October when photographer Caroline of the wonderful Tinywater emailed me to let me know she was off to shoot a Halloween, fancy-dress gothic themed wedding…and even before shooting the wedding, she knew I was going to love it. Well judging by the number of photographs I’m including in this post you could say she was pretty much bang on! I was lucky enough to have Rachel, the bride get in contact with me to share all the glorious details!
“Our wedding was on Halloween, 2009 in our backyard. Tom and I share a deep love for the day – actually it’s our all time favorite day of the year and Autumn is our favorite time of year, so it was easy to pick the date. However, I’m a designer by trade, so we didn’t want a cheesy Halloween Wedding filled with cheap plastic decorations. Our colors were black, red and silver with skulls and flames as an undertone. We cut out things we didn’t like, including most vendors – no caterer, no flowers, etc. Almost the entire wedding, except the cake, photography, the bridal party outfits and part of Tom’s outfit, were DIY. The cake came from Glass Slipper Gourmet in Concord, CA and the kilts were from Utilikilts . A close friend was our officiant. I made my dress, Tom’s vest and jacket, my stepson’s kilt, and my mom’s dress and we did all the decorations, invitations, food (props to my brother-in-law for roasting the pig and BBQ’ng the chicken), programs and music. Tom used to be a frontman for a Heavy Metal Band so the music was important. How many weddings play Pantera during dinner?
We couldn’t have done it without our friends and family though. They rocked our socks off.”
Thanks to Rachel & Tom for sharing their day and to Caroline & Dan of Tinywater for thinking of me when they shot this amazing wedding! (ps get well soon Dan – my thoughts are with you all – big love)

A Halloween-esque Steam Train of Epicness

Kim & Alex's wedding hit me like a steam train of epicness when I laid eyes on it. I'm pretty sure my insessent ramblings can't bring it justice so I think it's only fair I hand over to Kim with all the fantastic details. As usual, I'll be back with the eye candy.
"Originally our theme was “Halloween Town” from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, but as time went on, our theme evolved beyond Tim Burton to include other geeky things we love as a couple such as zombies, toys, film and... well... Halloween!
We were mostly inspired by films (predominantly Tim Burton and Zombie flicks) and our own Halloween experiences. We just looked at the little things we loved most and used that to make our wedding our own.
I’m in love with Burlesque-wear and wanted to incorporate that whimsical, glam-yet-sexy look to my outfit. Instead of bridal magazines, my fashion designer friend and I looked through many burlesque photos and lingerie books to gather inspiration for my dress. For my shoes, I found the most awesome bright green zombie shoes designed by Iron Fist. They were out of stock in Toronto, so Alex and I sent out all our online Twitter friends on a mad hunt for them. We ended up getting them shipped from Ohio. A few months later, a friend of mine from Chicago found the flat versions of the same zombie shoes, which I was really thankful for. I cannot walk in heels!
The groom’s suit was inspired by Jack Skellington. He didn’t want to take the blatant replica route by getting a pin stripe suit. Instead, his plain black suit had black skeleton appliques all throughout. He even had a hoodie that had the skull on the hood! Since he almost always only exclusively wear Chuck Taylors, he wore black on black Chucks to the wedding. To add a sense of “badass” to his outfit, as well as his groomsmen/groomsgirl, our good friend, We Kill You made us custom pimp sticks for them to walk around with.
We were really lenient with our wedding party when it came to what to wear

Night of the Living Wed

This ghoulish, retro horror themed wedding may not be everybodys cup of tea but I can't help but be a little over-excited about it. So. Much. Originality! Photographer Al, who has just been shortlisted for 'Tattoo Photographer of the Year' was keen to tell me all about Ash and Michelle Ghoulmore's (oh yes!) friday the 13th wedding.
The couple run retro rebels store and the horror-themed clothing company Kreepsville 666 so their wedding was always going to be a spooky special. 'Ghoulmore' actually is Ash's surname and they pretty much live Halloween everyday, so it was fitting to pick a horror / b-movie inspired Wedding theme.
"This meant I had to light the formals in a slightly different way to ensure I got that punchy highly saturated contrasty feel that fits with the mood" photographer Al told me. "This was the first time I've seen a smoke machine used during the ceremony! The archway was decorated with skulls and light like a stage. As you can see form the photos the cake was a skull and all the attendees got to take home a set of cast-silver effect fangs to say 'fangs for coming' [groan]. Zombina and the Skeletones provided the live music for the reception, again fitting the horror-rockabilly theme."

So we're in to October already so you know what that means... Halloween! And for Oddd & Elle, despite being married in August, their favourite holiday was the obvious choice of theme for their epic wedding.
"Anyone who knows us knew that our wedding was going to be a little different, as we've always done things our own way", began the groom. "After a chance meeting when we were both invited last minute to a day out, we have been inseparable, We got engaged on our first Christmas day in our first home and we set our wedding date for our 9 year anniversary on Friday 17th August 2012."

Skull Themed Wedding on Halloween

Erin and Beau's October 31st wedding had a very obvious theme - skulls! "The theme for the wedding definitely had to incorporate skulls", said the bride. "I absolutely love all things skeleton, as does Beau. We were inspired by the cameo male and female skull tattoos that I have. We are also lovers of the colours black and red so it all just fell in to place really."
