David and Nicoline’s South African wedding had a very obvious theme – rainbows! They wanted their day to be colourful, cheerful and fun. “We wanted the day to be special, a day that our guests would always remember and talk about”, the bride said. “We did a lot of things differently but one of the most obvious ones was that there were no girls in the bridal party – we had ‘bridesmates’ instead!”
“The ceremony was very special, our guests were sitting on straw bales and on the grass,. It had a very casual vibe. The officiant gave a beautiful speech and afterwards we planted a tree.”
“The day was just AWESOME from beginning to end. There was so much laughter and everyone spoke about how amazing the wedding was afterwards. The dance floor was under the stars and it was full until the end of the night.”
Most of the decor was homemade. “We made the the hearts, the bunting, the tableplan, and the thank you gifts which were cookies. My mum made the cake and a family friend did the flowers. We had every table as a different colour of the rainbow with different coloured flowers and napkin rings.”
“Seeing every little detail that went into the planning on the day and seeing that all the hard work paid off was the best feeling! It was so worth all the stress and hard work.”

For their March wedding, South Africans Angelo & Candice wanted a colourful day that oozed fun...so a rainbow theme it was! "Angelo and I are generally out of the box thinkers and the 'same old same old' wedding décor was not what we wanted", began the bride. "We knew we wanted colour and fun and we went from there. There were a few elements I needed to 'sell' to my parents but they went with most of my ideas (thankfully). Angelo and I are both involved in film and TV (Angelo is an actor and I am a Junior Creative Producer) so a strong film element had to be prevalent in our day. We had popcorn holding up our table numbers and a picture of a clapper board on our invites."

Wanting to combine two of their biggest passions for their big day, Nick and Kelli had a surf and flower inspired wedding. All the guys wore colourful Hawaiian shirts and the girls were in brightly patterned summer dresses! Kelli's dress was vintage, from the 1940s and cost her $8! The day was held outdoors, at The Litchi Orchard in Salt Rock, Durban.
"Our wedding was surf inspired", wrote Kelli, "as we both surf and after watching the 80s classic North Shore together, we knew the theme we wanted straight away! Light, fun, floral, colourful and full of love!"

I've seen a lot of Day of the Dead themed weddings in my time, but hand on my heart, none have been as incredible as this one! From the bride's black dress with hidden rainbow petticoat, to the extravagant and gorgeous DIY decorations and the holi powder war (!), this is a wedding I KNOW you're all going to love.

Andel and Pieter were married between Christmas and New Year's Eve in Riversdale, South Africa. They chose Die ou Tronk, an old prison, as their venue. Surprisingly this unusual location has been converted into the most gorgeous event space! From outside the building looks as you would expect, but once inside you are met by a beautiful, bright courtyard with lots of flowers and trees.

I Love that Glove

Honestly? I struggled with what to write about today. Usually on a Sunday I'll post something non-wedding related that's caught my eye or I'll share something exciting that I've done in the week. But I shared my Photography Farm retreat escapades in this week's Thursday Treats and since then I've basically been chained to my computer replying to the squillions of emails that came in whilst I was away and writing as many blog posts as physically possible. I also spent rather a lot of time on the phone to Cosmopolitan Magazine. NO BIG DEAL (more on this soon!)
And then this wedding pinged into my inbox and it all became clear.

Marrying her sweetheart in August of last year, newlywed Claire told me all about their Glaswegian wedding. "Whilst on paper our wedding wasn't overtly Rock n Roll, our journey to get down the aisle definitely offers a slightly offbeat tale. Namely because in the two years leading up to our nuptials we collectively lost ten stone between us - the equivalent of 20ish new-born babies, a Saint Bernard dog, or Britney Spears. The toughest journey of my life, losing 70% of our collective weight drop, I lived, breathed and blogged the whole shebang, and whilst I still have a few more pounds to shift, that I made it down the aisle in the most beautiful dress I've ever seen, no longer morbidly obese, is the proudest moment of my life so far."
