Rach and Tim’s DIY wedding took place on the bride’s family farm in New Zealand. It had a 1950s rockabilly theme. “It was important to us that we had a fun and relaxed atmosphere”, said Rach. “We learnt how to do a rockabilly dance as our first dance!”
“Our ceremony was funny and sweet. The celebrant asked us what we loved about each other and then put that in to her speech at the wedding. My nephew read He’s Not Perfect by Bob Marley.”
The couple did lots of DIY projects with help from their friends and family. “My brothers and brother-in-law made the bar, my nephew made the signs and one of my bridesmaids designed the lawn games. My mum did all the flowers, place mats, jams/chutneys and serviettes, and I made my brooch bouquet.”
“We would not have done anything differently, it turned out exactly how we wished. Our advice to future bride and grooms would be to take time out to remember why you are doing it, as it is easy to become stressed out in the build up to the wedding. The only thing that matters on the day is that a) legally you get married and b) you enjoy yourselves!”
