I think when some people hear about Rock n Roll Bride, they assume it’s all getting married underwater, jumping out of aeroplanes, having the craziest most out-there wedding you can think of… But its never really been about that.
While, of course, I love to feature the really wacky weddings, they are usually quite few and far between. Most Rock n Roll brides (and grooms!) still have traditional elements in their big day. Whether wearing a white dress, being given away by their father, or throwing the bouquet, these traditions certainly haven’t been completely forgotten by all! Most brides that read this blog really just want to get married in a style that reflects them and their partner.
That’s exactly what Emma and Michael did for their September wedding on Barry Island. “Our wedding theme was Day of the Dead and handmade”, Emma said. “We love everything about Mexico, from the delicious food to the amazing Mayan history, so used this as our inspiration. We made the bouquets, flower baskets, buttonholes, centrepieces, and table plan. I also created a large red sugar skull.”
“One of the most fun elements was that we hired the Transformers to entertain the guests as they arrived to the reception venue. We also gave the guests two hours after lunch to go exploring as there are lots of fun arcades and a massive sandy beach and a fun fair in the area.”
The couple’s budget was £5,500. “Our biggest expense was the food and the venue but both were well worth every penny. The food was so delicious! We saved money by shopping on eBay and hand making as much as we could. You don’t need to spend a fortune to have the wedding you’ve always dreamed of and my tip for other couples would be to shop around before you buying anything. I always checked eBay for things before buying anything elsewhere, but always read the seller’s reviews first!”
