Now this is something you don’t see everyday – a bride in wings! Chris and Chilli were married in August and planned their rainbow fairy wedding completely by themselves.
“Our wedding was rainbow themed with a relaxed, fun atmosphere”, explained the bride. “We didn’t want a fancy church ceremony, posh cars or for me to wear a simple white gown. Instead, there was a horse and carriage (I have been around horses my whole life and it has always been my dream to arrive at my wedding in one!), a civil ceremony outside under a pagoda, and colourful outfits including me in fairy wings! Our reception had a pub atmosphere and our meal was a BBQ. We also had a bouncy castle!”
“My dress was originally by Benjamin Roberts but with a heck of a lot of changes and alterations by Margaret from Confetti & Lace , we turned it into a unique piece to show off my personal style. My shoes were custom made rainbow Converse. I live in Converse, so it only felt right to wear them on my wedding day too. I don’t like cut flowers, to me they are expensive dead things, so I carried a felt bouquet made by Miss Jennifer Rae .”
Super Trooper !”, Chilli laughed. “They were inspired by the scene from Mammia Mia where three women sing and dance to that song on the hen night. They changed into shiny, wet-look spandex outfits, with bell-bottoms and bell-sleeves! It was so entertaining and such a fantastic surprise!”
“It’s hard to pick just one part of the day that I loved the most, but although its a cliché, I loved having all my friends and family in one place”, she concluded. “The 40 minute journey to the ceremony on the horse and carriage was also amazing though!”

With just £3000, a mountain of ideas and a hell of a lot of hard work, Abby and Liam planned their DIY village hall wedding for August this year. The day was held at Eccleston Village Hall, with the ceremony in the garden. They saved a lot of money by not going for traditional wedding stuff. Abby's amazing dress was vintage, bought at Pillbox Vintage Wedding Fair, which she then had reworked by Carla at Mon Ami. Liam's outfit was from River Island. The flowers were all grown in the bride's mother's garden and their transport for the day was their own vintage yellow Beetle!

Sam and Stu met at college and bonded over a mutual love of video games, "primarily how to get the knights of the round summon in Final Fantasy 7!" Sam laughed. Charlotte and Leo, originally from Brighton but currently living in Liverpool, knew they wanted to marry in the city where they met. So they planned their wedding from afar and booked out an entire guest house right on the sea front to accommodate their guests! A Room with a View has nine guest rooms and was the perfect place for everyone to get ready. The floor to ceiling windows looking over the beach and pier made for some great photos from Lisa Devlin too!

A colourful country fête wedding with a 1950s flair? What's not to love in Steph & Dale's wedding?! The day took place in Essex, kicking off at St Giles Church with the reception at Pledgdon Barn.
This wedding was a real DIY love affair and a project of passion. The couple made as much as possible including (deep breath) the bunting (both triangle and heart shaped), their stationery and all the paper goods, cocktail stirrers from laser cut card, the cake flags, the acrylic cake toppers, the wooden signs, the blackboards, the paper hearts for decorating the tables, the bridesmaids earrings, the buttonholes, the bow ties for their dogs and the cupcakes!

When wedding photographer Sassy of Assassynation told me she'd booked a wedding through a feature on my site last year I was super thrilled. However my excitement was pretty much quadrupled when she them told me the bride was wearing a short dress... with a rainbow petticoat... with glittery turquoise leopard print wedges and ankle socks... oh yes and that they were getting married in a cave. I think died and went to wedding heaven right about then.
Caroline & Johnny were married on a Monday, on the 14th May this year. The ceremony was small - just the two of them, the celebrant and Sassy and her husband Ian, who not only photographed the event but acted as witnesses. The ceremony was at Carnglaze Caverns in Cornwall. "One fabulously weather proof venue!" the bride laughed. "Subterranean lake, 500 candles and really dangerous steps for the clumsiest bride. What could possibly go wrong?"

I think green is a totally underrated bridal colour. We see brides in white, red, even black, quite often, but rarely in green - and doesn't Ruth show us how wrong this is? She looks incredible! "I remember looking at photos of my Gran in her wedding dress from 1960 which was blue with a pink petticoat and telling myself that I was going to wear my favourite colour when I got married too", Ruth began, "and so the green dress was born. My something old was my Gran's actual pink underskirt from her wedding dress."
"Finding a green dress was hard work though. At first I tried on bridesmaid dresses but I never really felt myself or special enough. I was also being pushed into trying on white dresses by everyone but I didn't recognise myself. I'm a total tomboy at heart and the concept of being feminine for the day felt alien to me. I still don’t understand the concept of feeling like a princess on your wedding day. The most important thing was to feel like me. I found Vivien of Holloway online after looking at the adverts on Rock n Roll Bride. After three trips trying on various Vivien of Holloway dresses, I ended up ordering from a limited run of only 4 (!) plain green circle dresses. I love the fact that I can and will be able to wear my dress again and that I'm only one of 4 people to have bought it!"

The DIY wedding of Tom & Jenny took place in Kent in July. After a church ceremony, their low key reception was held in Tom's parent's back garden.
The bride wore a short wedding dress from Yours Truly Bridal Shop in Maidstone which cost her just £180 with a gorgeous headpiece was by a Rock n Roll Bride favourite, Crown & Glory. Alongside her lucky bridesmaids, she wore Vivienne Westwood/Melissa Lady Dragon shoes and instead of bouquets they all carried a single giant faux flower stem, bought from Hobbycraft costing just £2 each!
