You know those couples that you see and instantly think, “Damn, I’ll never be that cool”? Well that’s exactly what I first thought when I laid eyes on Dave and Swan’s beautiful Australian wedding. Their ceremony was at the stunning Newman College Chapel in Melbourne University, and their low key reception hosted at Encore St. Kilda, right on the beach.
Swan wore an INCREDIBLE two-piece wedding ‘dress’, a skirt and lace top combo made by an Italian seamstress. Her headpiece was by Veiled Beauty and her jewellery from Atelier of Love.
“Our wedding theme was ‘us’… with a hint of glitter!” began the bride. “I also (accidentally!) fell pregnant 9 weeks before the wedding…whoops!!! In true Rock n Roll style I had to have my dress altered to fit my new baby body the night before the wedding!”
“I am a dancer and my husband loves to get down and boogie with me so we thought it was important to have a kick ass band!” she explained when I asked them what they loved most about their wedding. “We organised a 7 piece band with brass and percussion so we could dance the night away…and that we did – they were fabulous!”
“The only thing I wish I’d done differently was be nicer to my poor mother in the run up!” Swan laughed. “She put up with me and I can’t thank her enough, She’s one in a million!!”

People often ask me if I ever get bored of blogging about weddings. I can see why because usually once you've been doing something - anything - for as long as I have been doing this, it's natural to think that you might start to become a little 'over' it. So while I'm not going to pretend that I'm always thrilled, overjoyed and amazed by every wedding that graces my inbox, I can safely say that I am probably as far from 'over' this job as I could be... especially when I get sent images like Polly and Jamie's wedding to drool over.

Punk Rock Wedding: Lauren & Con

Being unapologetically punk rock in their everyday lives, having a punk themed wedding was really the only option for Lauren & Con, who tied the knot at Pavilion Gardens, Mt Tamborine, Australia. "We’re punks so we wanted to have a wedding we’d enjoy but still wanted it to be nice and have most of the usual wedding trimmings for both us and the family", Lauren wrote. "We weren't trying to do things differently on purpose, we just did things the way we wanted and it all turned out awesome."

Bernadette & Peter decided they wanted to host their wedding in their own back garden. Having built their own home from the ground up, having the celebration there was really important to them both. "We're no spring chickens!" the bride laughed. "We had a slightly unusual wedding because we first built our home, then had three children and only then got married.

An Australian Wedding with Pops of Colour: Asha & Greg

I love when weddings with bright pops of colour like Asha & Greg's brighten up my inbox. They really do make me smile! However I love them even more when the people behind the wedding seem like just the kind of guys I'd like to be friends with...if only they didn't live in Australia! "We didn't have a theme as such because we didn't want to confine our choices," Asha told me. "We found things we liked, which suited our style, and I suppose a loose theme just organically grew from there. My parents collect a lot of old antique trinkets so we used those as the starting point for our reception decorations and added lots of bright fresh flowers. We also wanted to incorporate some music references because music is what really brought us together."

Retro Bowling Club Wedding with an Ocean View: Nat & Sam

November 30, 2012
The retro wedding of Nat & Sam is perfect... literally perfect. I just know you're going to go nuts for Nat's nostalgic bridal style, their ocean view ceremony and the reception that looks like it stepped right out of the past.
"Our ceremony was at Burrows Park Headland, Sydney", explained Nat. "The ceremony spot was a beautiful cliff edge looking over the Pacific Ocean and located right next to the Bowling Club where we had the reception. We loved that the only way to get to it was via a very long, natural aisle sheltered on one side by trees, which we decorated with Chinese lanterns. For our reception we chose Clovelly Bowling Club. It was cheap as chips to hire, the drinks prices stuck in the 1980s, and the tacky bright blue carpet and a strange old picture of the Queen flanked by two Aussie flags above a stage which houses an ancient piano (which we tuned up and used!) were AWESOME! As soon as we walked in we looked at each other and said 'Yes!'. Oh, and it had 180 degree ocean views!"
