Shimrit and Liron planned their Jewish wedding in Tel Aviv in just a month. Because of the short time frame they ignored a lot of traditions and forgot about having lots of extra details. They kept things simple and affordable.
“The inspiration for the wedding was the good old weddings, before weddings became tacky and cheesy and brides and grooms lost proportions”, wrote the bride. “The guests said that they felt like they were sent back in time. I think we managed to create a good combination between the vintage feeling, oldies songs, light mood, simplicity, Israeli and the respect we gave to the ceremony. It didn’t feel fake, it felt authentic and ours. I think it’s rare to be at a wedding that really reflects the couple’s vibe.”
“We did a lot ourselves including the table centrepieces, the table numbers, the flowers and candy arrangements”, she continued. “My wedding dress was inspired by the 1920s and was made from ivory velvet, French silver-cream lace and decorated with lots of pearls and Swarovski stones. I designed and made it myself as well as all of the bridesmaid’s dresses (six adults and three flower girls!) I also made the bow ties for the boys.”

Helen and Rich are hooked on the TV series, Peaky Blinders, so when they came to plan their Manchester wedding, they based it on their favourite show. "It was only natural that we decided to join the Brummy gang for our wedding day", Helen explained. "Also, Rich's father grew up not that far from the real Peaky Blinders gang, he has Irish heritage, and I have always been obsessed by the 1920s. It just made sense."

The first thing Chloe & Michael decided upon for their wedding was the venue. They picked Nonsuch Mansion, in the heart of Nonsuch Park, as it held great sentimental meaning to them. They'd spent a lot of time there thoughout their relationship and so having the wedding there made total sense. "The mansion is built on the site of Henry VIII’s long gone Nonsuch Palace and is located in the middle of a huge park that we live within a few minutes walk of," Chloe explained. "The park is very important to us and we spend lots of time in there, running, walking, picking berries, lazing in the sun with a beer etc when the seasons are right! In fact, it was lazing in the shade of a tree just by the mansion on a sunny afternoon when we first said 'I love you' - so it’s a pretty special place. Choosing the venue really was a no-brainer for us!"

So when a wedding like Leslie & Collin's lands in my inbox I'm over the moon, thrilled and super duper excited to feature it because it's just so different. I'm totally losing my cool over this theme and the way the couple executed it. They also planned and styled the entire wedding themselves, making it a million percent more awesome in my book.

Sonia & Balthazar's wedding was anything but typical. This casual couple turned up late, got ready in minutes, sailed off on a boat for the ceremony and had a meal at a Russian restaurant for their reception.
"My husband and I are in love with the sea - the smell, the mystery and the expansiveness", began the bride. "We feel most comfortable near large bodies of water, so the idea of getting married on a boat seemed like the most appropriate. We had sailed on the Red Witch in 2009 with Balthazar's aunt and uncle in Port Washington during a tall ship festival. We overheard the Captain saying that they host parties and weddings and looked at each other simultaneously, with the same thought in mind: this is our vessel of love."

Retro 1960s Wedding with a Moroccan Vibe: Jo & Aki

Jo, a taxidermist, & Aki, a web designer, were married at Byzantium, a quirky bar and restaurant in Bristol. The Moroccan decor added an interesting touch to the celebration. The room was decorated with Moroccan lanterns, pipe cleaner animal and personalised cocktail stirrers. Some friends made them a guest list tree surrounded by candles and glass beads, flowers and fairy lights. Jo made some taxidermy through her company Death & Glory Taxidermy.
"I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by a lot of very talented people", explained the bride. "It’s very easy to get caught up with the idea of doing everything yourself but if you've got people around you that can (and want to) help, then let them! In the end our photographer (Noel was already a professional wedding photographer - handy!), invitation designer, guestbook tree makers, band, 'priest' and florist were all friends. It made the whole day much more personal and special and really helped us get the most out of our budget."
