The majority of the weddings I blog make me wish I was a whole lot cooler, and Lizzie and James’ Shoreditch shindig is no different. These guys did things their own way – and then some! They got hitched at Museum of The Order of St John and had a rockin’ yet intimate party at Bistrotheque afterwards. To keep costs down, they kept their guest list small.
“We took inspiration from my engagement ring by artist Julia Deville “, began the bride. “It’s slightly gothic with some Victorian elegance. She celebrates death and the idea of mortality in her work. The influences in our wedding were subtle – things like candle sticks with symbols of skulls, motorbikes and guns. We also had black roses and thistle in the bouquets, I wore black Victorian lingerie and James’ underwear said ‘I hate you’ on the butt cheeks with a skull and rose on either side!”
“We made our invites, wedding programmes and place cards out of polaroid photos we had taken”, she continued. “Our invitations and RSVPs were photos taken at different times in our relationship. The place cards were photos we had taken together specifically for each guest. Each guest got to take their photo home as a memoir of the day. We both loved the idea that we got to have this day which was designed and created by us – everything had our touch on it.”
“To save money we forfeited a honeymoon!” she concluded. “We got the day we wanted and we now have a lifetime together to go on holiday. Our advice to future couples would be: make it your own day… and enjoy it – it goes so fast!”

I'm definitely not only of those girly girls. I favour a bold and modern aesthetic over pretty pastels any day. But Joey & Mike's wedding slayed me when it landed in my inbox recently. And 'pretty' is really the only word I can use to best describe what I saw.

When Wendy and Alex started looking for a venue for their July wedding, they were stuck. They wanted somewhere quirky and creative but also somewhere that didn't break the bank. Luckily they stumbled across Asylym Arts in North London, a disused chapel that is now hired out for weddings and events. The space has a crumbling almost derelict vibe which they loved. The dramatic backdrop meant they didn't need to decorate much, so they just added candles, tea lights and simple flower arrangements around the room.

A Black Wedding Dress, A Traditional Church Wedding & A Burlesque Themed Reception: Scarlet & Craig

November 21, 2011
Scarlet & Craig's wedding wowed me as soon as I spied that dress. I was so excited to be able to share this incredible Goth extravaganza and luckily for you lot, so were the newlyweds. In fact Craig's reply when I emailed him back saying 'Yes yes, hell yes (ps your wife is hot)' was something along the lines of 'OMG so excited that you're going to feature us!!! Squeeee'.
"I'd never really thought about my wedding day growing up, so when Craig proposed on a trip to Amsterdam (with a tattoo that simply said 'Marry Me' on his wrists!) I was thrown into a bit of a panic!" Scarlet explained. "But as soon as we started planning we knew we wanted to do things our own way. Luckily we found Rock n Roll Bride, which made us realise there really are no 'rules' for a wedding, and then we just went all out! We didn't start out with one, but as we went along we developed a kind of pink and black gothic fairytale theme, pink being my favourite colour, and black being Craig's!

We Heart Pictures

When Kirsty and Steve planned to marry they knew they wanted tradition to play no part in it. This started with their surname. Instead of keeping their own names or one of them taking the other's they decided to merge their two names to create a brand new one. So Kirsty Foster and Steve Pate became Mr & Mrs Fate!
When it came to capturing their wedding day they wanted photos that were bright, romantic, playful, with a little kooky edge. They found We Heart Pictures through Rock n Roll Bride and couldn't have been happier with their choice! They wedding took place on June 7th at Hoxton Hall, London.

I always get really excited to feature a super-budget wedding because I love to show you that, with a bit of clever engineering, a beautiful wedding doesn't have to cost £20,000. Ruth & Steve spent just £700 on their day and it was perfect. They also planned the entire thing in just two months - sheesh, why can't we all be such overachievers?!
