Erica and Philip were married in Sweden in October. Philip proposed on their seven year anniversary, and wanting an Autumn wedding but not wanting to wait over a year, they planned their wedding in just four months!
The reception was held in a beautiful orangery owned by one of the bride’s friends. It is located right by one of the Sweden’s biggest lakes and was an incredible backdrop. Because it is privately owned, the venue rarely hosts parties so the couple had a lot of work to do to make it look amazing… but they certainly pulled it off! Having such a blank canvas meant they were really able to put their own stamp on their day.
“Fall is my favourite season and after finding the orangery it was hard even considering any other venue”, began the bride. “The orangery gave us so many things; the natural light, the atmosphere, the great view of the lake, the little garden next to it where we could put up homemade games. It was like being outside without being cold and we knew that no matter the weather it would still be lovely.”
“We wanted a wedding that captured who we are instead of being just another traditional Swedish wedding”, she continued. “We used lots of thrift shop finds for decorations and vintage coffee cups with succulents planted in them for favours as well as name tag holders. Since we both love tea we made personalized teabags that our guests got to fill with leaf tea and additional spices if they wished.”
“Because Philip has Scottish heritage we also wanted to incorporate that. We found a really neat, blue and checked jacket for him and I had blue thistles in my bouquet.”
“Our favourite part of the wedding was the loving atmosphere that we were surrounded by from family and close friends. We were just absolutely overwhelmed by all the love the day was filled with. Other than that the ceremony was a lot of fun. We walked down the aisle together to a song we’d mixed ourselves and high-fived each other after being pronounced husband and wife!”
“Listen to advice but follow your heart, so many people have thoughts about what is best but you’re the ones getting married, not them”, Erica encourages in conclusion. “Do invest in professional photographer and/or videographer. You may have a friend who has a fancy camera but nothing compares to the knowledge and skill that a professional with years of experience has. It is not worth getting blurry pictures or having a stressed out relative who has the humongous responsibility of creating the memories of your big day. Our photographer and film maker, the lovely duo of She Takes Pictures He Makes Films, were fantastic and flew all the way from Australia to shoot our wedding!”
