With names like Maayan & Maxim, their wedding was never going to be boring. This Israeli couple were married at Hamirpese, a bar in Ramat Ishay, North Israel. Their wedding was laid back, fun and quirky as you like.
“One of our guidelines for our wedding was to find vendors who we could connect with and who understood our vibe and the feeling we wanted to create”, Maayan explained. “Good chemistry and communication were really important to us. We got all our vendors through friend recommendations.”
“In terms of budget we didn’t go overboard. We waned to maximise our money and get the best of it. For example my wedding dress only cost $230 but still I was overrun with compliments about it on the day! It seemed excessive to spend so much money on a custom made dress just for a single day. I didn’t buy any special jewellery. I used earrings that I already had. The most important things to us were good food, lots of alcohol and a great venue.”

A Wedding on a Budget with Portraits in IKEA: Janet & Dave

I'm rather partial to IKEA... I know it's not the fanciest of home stores, but whenever I persuade Gareth that we need a trip there (I'm sure we're due another one soon) I feel like a proper grown up. I can actually afford the stuff (like who decided £2000 was standard for a table and chairs? pah John Lewis, PAH!) and it makes me feel all educated buying things with Swedish names. Plus their items are always pretty... even if not always functional - "why yes Gareth I do need that cardboard deer head to put on my office wall..." And don't even get me started on the kids department. I just wish the pink chest of drawers came in adult size...
So when wedding photographer and all round cool dude Chris Barber sent me Janet & Dave's wedding I was excited. Not just because of Dave's Rock n Roll stylings but because they chose the Coventry Ikea as the location for their wedding day portrait sesh. GENIUS! Oh and they spent just £4000 on their day. I'm IN AWE.

A Low Key London Wedding for just £600: Rain & Attila

I love a detail-heavy wedding as much as the next blogger, but you know what, it's usually the unapologetically low key and budget weddings that pull at my heartstrings the most. Rain & Attila spent just £600 on their wedding and the day couldn't have been more perfect.

I'm not an expert of the history of weddings, but when you think about it, many wedding traditions are really quite odd. A tiered cake, putting your best friends in ill-fitting in matching dresses, an awkward dance in front of everyone you know, throwing a bouquet flowers at people's heads... odd.

Savannah & Eliot's super cool, Nashville wedding was held at The Crying Wolf bar. They were married outside in the car park, which ended up being a surprisingly beautiful setting, and the reception was inside. With the venue already being so awesome and decorated in such a quirky way, the couple didn't need to add too much, but they included a few things they love like animal skulls and various pieces distressed wood from the bride's mother's farm. Savannah also designed and made all the stationery, the flowers were bought from a flower market and the cakes were made by friends. The venue did the food and drinks and they had a friend DJ the party.

They met in Manchester in 2001 while they were both at University. He asked her to join his band even though he didn't have one yet. At their Islington wedding, 12 years later, many of the friends they made during this time were there as witnesses. "We considered many themes briefly but decided in the end just to try to make the day as relaxed and informal as we could while still making it feel like a special event", explained the bride. "We just wanted to get everyone together for some good food, wine and dancing and worked the rest around that. We did sneak a few sci-fi and superhero references in though!"
