Floyd & Maricris were married in Cavite in The Philippines. They met in art school and wanted their wedding to be just as creative as they are. They spent $9000 on the wedding and the majority of the details were DIY.
“Wedding planning wasn’t easy”, began the bride. “We had a very strict budget, and planning such a big wedding with not a lot of money was hard. We didn’t have a stylist or wedding planner but we wanted to do it all ourselves. Our family and friends were fantastic with helping us with the preparations. We had to be creative with our plans but we enjoyed doing it all. We enjoyed spending time together making things.”
“The first thing I thought of when we were deciding what our wedding would be like was ‘bohemian’. We wanted the wedding to be relaxed, comfortable, chilled out and with a laid back ambiance. We needed that after all the hard work and preparations!” she laughed. “To top it all off, I love earthy colours. They give me a warm feeling every time I look at them and I wanted that for our wedding too. Our crafty bohemian theme was perfect and just a little bit edgy. I wanted the wedding to be beautiful but also personal since I am a crafter. I gave it my all and I am so happy with how beautiful everything looked.”
Maricris wore a Paul Haute Couture wedding gown with Forever 21 jewellery. For her bridesmaids’ dresses she bought fabric from a wholesaler and each girl chose her own dress design, which Maricris then made. “Aside from my beautiful gown and my beautiful bouquet, my favorite things in our wedding were the DIY items. In fact most of our wedding details were DIY and were made in just four months. I made ten paper bouquets for the bridesmaids it took me a whole month to finish them all. The boutonnieres were also made by me. I made our wedding cord out of brown beads and thin rope and the centerpieces which were wine bottles covered in thin rope of different colors. The table numbers were made out of beads, the backdrop was made out of ribbons and for an alternative guestbook I made a wish box. My favorite DIY was our invitations. My husband made the layout and drew the illustrations and I printed them out at home, cut and assembled them all manually. Instead of the traditional envelope we used kraft boxes to mail them out in.”
