Cecilia & Luciano wanted a simple wedding inspired by their choice of venue, Pousada Estrela D’água , in Trancoso, Brazil. “My inspiration was the wedding venue”, explained the bride. “The village of Trancoso, Bahia, is beautiful and simple at the same time. That’s what I sought in all my wedding decisions. I did not want anything too pretentious. For the decorations we used photos of family and tablecloths that belonged to our great grandmothers. The decor had a bit of our history and showed a lot of our personality.”
Cecilia made her own dress from the lace of the veil that her mother-in-law wore when she married. She also designed and made the bridesmaid’s dresses. “There was no specific theme to anything really”, she continued. “We just tried to do everything as simple as possible.”
“From my point of view, this was one of the hardest weddings I’ve ever photographed”, took over wedding photographer Danilo Siqueira . “It rained a lot throughout the ceremony and celebration. With the bad weather the small chapel which is already badly lit was darker than expected. At the party the rain came in from all sides (because of strong wind) and I was worried about my equipment.”
“It was also a late wedding so it was dark almost immediately. Every few moments I had to to stop and wipe the front of my lens because it was being splashed by rain which make is difficult to focus. It was crazy. In the end it was all very good though and I’m happy with what I produced. Taking the shots was a big challenge, but when I saw the results it give me great satisfaction in being able to deliver those photos to the bride and groom.”
Gorgeous! Thank you to Cecilia & Luciano and their hard working photographer Danilo Siqueira for sharing today.

People often ask me if I ever get bored of blogging about weddings. I can see why because usually once you've been doing something - anything - for as long as I have been doing this, it's natural to think that you might start to become a little 'over' it. So while I'm not going to pretend that I'm always thrilled, overjoyed and amazed by every wedding that graces my inbox, I can safely say that I am probably as far from 'over' this job as I could be... especially when I get sent images like Polly and Jamie's wedding to drool over.

Rain on your wedding day is a big worry for a lot of couples, but today I'm here to prove to you that it can actually be pretty amazing! Yes, Helen and James' outdoor festival wedding was a wash-out, but they definitely didn't let it ruin their day. Check out the amazing photographs their photographer Neil Thomas Douglas was able to capture... of course shots like this requires a couple who aren't afraid to get a little wet and muddy, but these guys went all out! They even went out in a boat on the river during the downpour!

Atmospheric Lake District Wedding: Helen & Andy

I was rather over-excited when I laid eyes on Helen and Andy's Lake District wedding, shot by the amazing Neil Douglas Photography. I mean what could be more incredible than getting wedding day portraits like these in a setting like that!? Hats off to the photographer of course, but also to the awesome couple for not being afraid to potentially get a little wet or muddy. I'd love to see more brave couples like this please, who's with me?
The wedding was held in Buttermere, with the ceremony in a local church and the reception in a tipi in Buttermere field. The couple didn't have a huge budget and opted to DIY and thrift a lot. Helen wore a dress which she bought off eBay for £100 and customised with her grandmother's vintage fur (a last minute edition due to the weather).

I can't say I ever remember featuring a Polish wedding on my blog before, but if this is the kind of standards they're setting, then I seriously should be posting more of them! There's so much wedding gorgeousness in these images I can hardly contain myself.
Martyna & Piotr were married in Warsaw. The ceremony was held at Jablonna Palace and the reception was at U Różyca, a private farm just outside of the city and right by Lake Zegrzynski. The reception was basically one big party! Laid back, unpretentious and with everyone pitching in to help.

I've seen a lot of festival inspired weddings in my time, but I think it's safe to say that none of them have been as so naturally cool as this one! Not only do Charlie and Kane both ooze awesome, but their dinner set up has to be one of the most beautiful ever. At their reception site, a field behind the bride's parent's house, they had a Bedouin tent and one huge, long table for their 150 guests to eat at. Thank goodness it didn't rain!

A DIY Maryland Wedding: Natalie & Brynn
Kat
September 10, 2012
"Our family and friends MADE this wedding happen," explained Natalie when I asked her about her wedding. "Brynn & I didn't want to have a wedding designer, but I think my mother now holds that title. She spent the eight months of our engagement collecting wine glasses and silverware from thrift stores. Her and my aunt accumulated all the décor and oversaw virtually every design detail. My grandmother sewed all of the napkins and a family friend arranged the flowers for the centerpieces. My father created and made the cocktails and roasted coffee beans for the wedding favors (Brynn’s mother sewed the favor bags). My super-talented friend, the visual manager of an Anthropologie in DC, built the ceremony backdrop & platform and made all the signs. We asked a family friend to bartend. My best friend’s father and my cousins hung all the lights for the reception. One of my friends recently started an event-planning business and she handled all of the insane day-of coordination. Our friend is in a band and graciously offered to DJ the entire wedding."
The couple were married in Maryland in July. With a laid back approach, and as much help as their friends & family could muster, they planned the wedding of their dreams with little to no stress. "Our inspiration for the ceremony was a combination of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Lord of The Rings", she continued. "Obviously having the ceremony in a forest was a must. I envisioned my bridesmaids looking like little wood nymphs or fairies. They all picked out a white dress of their choosing and everyone looked smashing. We wanted our reception to be like a party Jay Gatsby would throw. There were lights strung everywhere, non-stop music, endless drinks, and next-level dance moves. Brynn's brother and best man even secretly got a limo to take us away."
