I love a summer wedding but as a wedding blogger who sees a lot of weddings everyday, sometimes I really yearn to see something totally unique. So when I laid eyes on Christina & James’ Friday 13th & gothic themed wedding I literally squealed with delight. This is a summer wedding with one hell of a twist!
The June wedding was held in their backyard. They wanted to spend as little as possible but to have a day to remember. The couple DIY’d as much as possible, and for their reception decor the bride put up an ad on a classifieds website asking anyone with unwanted nick nacks if they’d donate them for their centrepieces. Someone donated more than 15 glass pieces and they were able to decorate their reception space completely for free!
“I aimed for an elegant gothic wooded fantasy theme”, explained Christina, “like a whimsical dark beauty. Our centerpieces, the willow tree and gothic arch really helped pull this idea together. I have always been the odd one out so naturally my appearance began reflecting that back in high school. It was the same when it came to deciding how to decorate our wedding. I am inspired by all things Victorian, steampunk, vampire, medieval or steeped in fantasy. James is a musician and we handed out CDs of his music as favours at our wedding. He also performed a few songs at the reception.”
Christina is from Las Vegas. She moved to Canada to be with James so having her family fly in for the wedding was one of her favourite parts of the day. “I miss my family terribly”, she explained. “Having them all there was really special. I put together a website for the wedding for those in my family that couldn’t fly out to Canada. I used the site to introduce them to James and to keep them updated about the wedding. Like pictures, bios, our progamme and such.”
Aren’t these two gorgeous? I’m so excited to share their wedding with you today. Thank you to Christina & James and their amazing wedding photographer Jess Shields for sharing!
