Weddings like Elissa & Chris’ make me all giddy inside. A relatively simple affair done well is probably my current favourite kind of wedding style. No fuss, no stress, just effortlessly cool. One day I’ll be as awesome as these guys!
The reception was held in the backyard of a private residence, owned by Chris’ family, in Carolina Beach, NC. The family owns two beach cottages on a lake that share a large lawn, and that was the perfect place for them to pitch their tent which played host to their epic party!
“We toured a number of venues in the New England area when we first got engaged, mostly summer camps and farms, but just when we thought we had it figured out we realized we were way off course,” the couple explained. “We wanted to celebrate at a place that was not completely plucked from the blue. We spent a lot of time wishing we had a farmer owner in the family, and then realized NC would be perfect. The most important thing all along has been to find a place where we could have complete control over set-up, food, decoration, etc. We wanted to DIY as much as possible, as cookie cutter weddings don’t appeal to us in the slightest. At first we wanted to elope, but realized we would regret not bringing our families and friends together to celebrate in a way that was totally ‘us’.”

The retro wedding of Nat & Sam is perfect... literally perfect. I just know you're going to go nuts for Nat's nostalgic bridal style, their ocean view ceremony and the reception that looks like it stepped right out of the past.
"Our ceremony was at Burrows Park Headland, Sydney", explained Nat. "The ceremony spot was a beautiful cliff edge looking over the Pacific Ocean and located right next to the Bowling Club where we had the reception. We loved that the only way to get to it was via a very long, natural aisle sheltered on one side by trees, which we decorated with Chinese lanterns. For our reception we chose Clovelly Bowling Club. It was cheap as chips to hire, the drinks prices stuck in the 1980s, and the tacky bright blue carpet and a strange old picture of the Queen flanked by two Aussie flags above a stage which houses an ancient piano (which we tuned up and used!) were AWESOME! As soon as we walked in we looked at each other and said 'Yes!'. Oh, and it had 180 degree ocean views!"

Charlotte and Leo, originally from Brighton but currently living in Liverpool, knew they wanted to marry in the city where they met. So they planned their wedding from afar and booked out an entire guest house right on the sea front to accommodate their guests! A Room with a View has nine guest rooms and was the perfect place for everyone to get ready. The floor to ceiling windows looking over the beach and pier made for some great photos from Lisa Devlin too!

Lorna & Dave were married in Southend in April. Their ceremony took place at The Culture Centre, right on the pier, and their reception was at Ocean Beach, a restaurant on the beach. "The theme for our wedding was British seaside with a touch of vintage", wrote Lorna. "The beautiful blue sky and sunshine really made the day that extra bit special. It was amazing! The children were able to run about and play on the beach at the reception and the view from the decking at Ocean Beach was incredible."

Ames and Tel met when they were twelve, at school. Needless to say it wasn't love at first sight! However eleven years later they virtually bumped into each other on MySpace and saw each other on a few nights out. Shortly after that they started dating.
"We didn't set out with a theme in mind for our wedding, we just knew we wanted a laid back relaxed do with close friends and family", Ames explained. "We didn't have much money to spend (our budget was £3000) so we wanted to do as much ourselves as we could. I think in the end we had a laid back, homemade vintage feel to the day."

Antonia and Harvey had a three day wedding at Roskilly's Ice Cream Farm in Cornwall. Their wedding was a true labour of love, with the couple and their friends and family working hard to create the wedding of their dreams. Tina and Dave were married at The Grand Pier, Weston Super Mare. Their wedding was a colourful mix of all the things they love. "Tina and I met in the summer of 2010 on a booze cruise organised by our workplace", wrote Dave. "She arrived with her pink hair in curls wearing a 50s polka dot dress, tattoo print shoes and red lipstick. I fell in love that night."

With the bride wearing vintage, the reception at Rich's grandmother's home, and music playing a huge part, this July wedding has all the makings of the perfect Rock n Roll celebration. The day was also a real DIY effort, with everyone pitching in to make it perfect.
A friend of the bride made her flower crown, all the flowers for the day were grown by friends and family and the stationery was made by the bride's brother. The cakes were brought by the guests. They had a 'bake-off' competition and the everyone won comedy prizes!
