What started as a joke from the groom that the amount they were going to spend on a wedding would be the same as a week-long vacation with their closest friends turned into reality when Kim and Chris tied the knot. Although initially Kim did want something more usual, instead they decided to redefine what a wedding could be.

Their journey began with a civil ceremony at home. A few weeks later, they flew to Spain with 15 of their closest friends and family. “The Inspiration for our wedding day in Spain was to do everything ourselves,” Kim explained. And they did. From picking up flowers at a local market the day before, to Kim’s brother Marc officiating the ceremony, every element was intentionally simple.

The couple also found both their outfits on Shein, after struggling to find what they wanted, at the right price, elsewhere. “Don’t judge!” Kim laughed. She also did her own hair and make-up and the cake was made by Kim’s mum and aunt.

In fact the only vendors they hired was the venue (which came with a resident chef who did the catering), and their photographer, Natalescha. “The fact that we only were 15 people and that we did all by ourselves was so special and really relaxed”, Kim said. “We didn’t had any pressure to offer our guests a perfect planned wedding and that was a really good feeling.”

As the night went on, all they had to do was enjoy each other’s company, eat, drink and chat… Oh, and jump into the pool fully clothed! “It was the best way to end the night!” Kim said.

“Nobody cares about the font on your invitations,” she concluded. “The only important thing is that you have a great time and your guests aren’t hungry. There are no rules about planning a wedding anymore. Every couple and every human is so individual, and so should their wedding be.”
