Amander and Alexander’s wedding in the Canadian Rockies unfolded like a scene from a winter fairytale. A perfectly timed first snowfall dusted the mountains just as the couple prepared to say their vows. Dressed in all black, their guests gathered to witness a ceremony that was uniquely theirs.

“We kept it small and intimate so we could include all of our favourite people,” Amander said. Their wedding party wasn’t limited to just bridesmaids and groomsmen—friends joined them in getting ready, making the morning feel like part of the celebration too. Amander walked down the aisle to David Bowie’s As the World Falls Down from Labyrinth, her favourite movie, while Alexander and his groomsmen danced their way to the altar, fueled by a morning of Fireball shots.

They incorporated a broom-jumping ritual, honouring Amander’s beliefs, and wrote their vows with lines from their favorite shows and bands—Tenacious D for Alex, Brooklyn Nine-Nine for Amander. One of the most emotional moments came when Alexander turned to his son, Landon, and read vows just for him. “There wasn’t a dry eye to be found,” Amander recalled.

Their reception was a Newfoundland-style Christmas party, complete with lush greenery, candlelight, and a warm, moody atmosphere. “We didn’t have any florals at the reception,” Amander explained. “It was all green garlands, black tablecloths and gold accents. The room was candlelit and the lights down low. It was stunning.” A live band kept the dance floor full, while a midnight snack selection ensured the party lasted until the venue finally had to send everyone home at 2 AM. “It was the best party we’ve ever been to!” Amander said.

The biggest challenge? The post-wedding blues. “No one really talks about how much time and effort you put into this one perfect day. Then it’s just… over,” the bride admitted. But looking back, they wouldn’t change a thing. “We pushed our date back a year to save money, and it was the best decision. We have zero regrets even though we originally planned to spend $10k and ended up at closer to $30k! You have to plan your wedding for what you want. Don’t plan your wedding to please family or other people’s tastes. Do what you want and have fun!”
