Jayme, who was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in Papua New Guinea, met Brady, a South Carolina native, in Hong Kong. Despite their very different upbringings, they quickly made Hong Kong their shared home. They chose Bali for their wedding, as its natural beauty was the perfect place to create the tropical celebration they wanted. It was also important to them to include cultural elements that represented their individual journeys. The floral choices reflected Jayme’s childhood memories, and the décor combined Bali’s vibrancy with a laid-back, intimate vibe.

The ceremony took place under penjor arches, traditional Balinese structures symbolising prosperity. It was officiated by Brady’s father, a preacher, adding a personal touch. “Our vows were deeply personal,” Jayme explained, “honouring each part of our journey together.”

Jayme’s outfit was a departure from traditional bridal attire. She chose a satin slip dress paired with vintage accessories, embracing her own sense of style. The bridesmaids (and one bridesman!) wore colourful and patterned outfits of their choice, which popped beautifully against the lush backdrop.

The reception décor featured rattan furniture and tropical florals. The menus, signage, and name cards were lovingly created by friends.

Planning a wedding across continents presented challenges, especially when coordinating with international vendors and guests. “The time zones were tricky,” Jayme admitted. “Luckily, we had a great local wedding planner!”

“It’s okay to break traditions and make the day truly yours,” the bride advised in conclusion. “What matters most is that it reflects who you are as a couple. There’s too much pressure for weddings to fit into a standard mould. If we could change one thing about weddings, it would be the expectation for everything to be ‘perfect.’ Weddings are beautiful because they’re real, and little imperfections make the day unique. Our wedding was a celebration of our journey and the blending of our worlds. It was exactly what we wanted: personal, intimate, and meaningful in every way.”
