Their Big Fat Emo Wedding (Planned in Just Three Months)

When Jaci and Bryce set out to plan their wedding, they had one mission: make it unapologetically theirs. Describing their theme as a “big fat emo wedding,” the couple wanted their day to have the perfect amount of rebellion without being too ‘out there’. They also did everything in just three months!

“We wanted good food, good people, and good vibes,” Jaci said, “nothing too traditional or serious. I took inspo mostly from Pinterest and Rock n Roll Bride!”

Jaci and Bryce’s ceremony was far from the stiff formalities you might expect. Their celebrant, who they chose after meeting up for drinks at a pub, nailed the brief. “She really understood the assignment,” Jaci continued. “She included all the things important to us… Simpsons quotes, Shrek shout outs, but also hit right in the feels when needed.”

The couple knew their reception had to keep the laid-back, emo vibe going. Jaci instructed the DJ to only play emo bangers from 9pm onwards and the result was a night filled with high-energy dancing and moshing to My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and more! And their first dance wasn’t your classic slow sway to a love ballad either. Instead, they bopped around to Paramore’s Still Into You.

The details were uniquely them, too. Bryce, an illustrator, created stickers of their three cats for wedding favours—an idea that brought together their creativity and love for their pets. “They’re our babies, and we wanted to incorporate them into the day somehow,” said Jaci. They also had a DIY tattoo station, also designed by Bryce, which featured tattoos with their favourite pop culture references.

Planning a wedding in three months might sound daunting, but for Jaci and Bryce, it was more of a bonding experience than a stressful task. “Sounds cheesy as hell, but planning it together with Bryce was my favorite part,” Jaci admits. “He was so involved in every step of the process, it made it fun. Ah, I want to do it again!”

“Fuck the norms and fuck tradition!” she concluded, “If you don’t want a wedding at all, that’s cool too—just be happy and do what’s best for you and your partner. And to all the emos out there: IT w@s n3veR a pHAs3 m0M! Happy wedding planning!”
